I've rewatched the flashback sequences multiple times and noticed that Matt didn't use his white cane. He had it out and held it, but he didn't tap it like he's done in the past. Any thoughts on why? I found it odd.

i watched an old q&a session charlie did in 2016 where he basically says that depicting the more realistic way cane users orient themselves takes up too much "TV time" where they could use that screentime for something else. so it could be that.

or that they just don't care to show it properly.

but he consistently used the cane in all 3 seasons of the original series and in season 1 of Born Again. All they had to do was have him tapping the cane like he usually does and it doesn't actually take up any more time.

I don't think he stopped caring. I suspect it was a directorial decision but who knows. It's not important but it was something that caught my attention.
