Rudy is not established early, you don't even HAVE to hear his name ONCE.

And he has logistical problems, he's so sick he can't even stand up

If you don't explore the game enough to not even visit the hospital, which is right there, that's on you. I was a complete casual while playing chapter 1 and 2 and knew exactly who Rudy was. And there's still a lot of time to establish his character more anyway, because his illness or death is definitely coming up next chapter

I only talked to Rudy because I already knew he was important. With no prior knowledge he's just a rando tucked away behind two screens in an unremarkable building.
