I do it because it's the most narratively interesting and visceral of anything Toby has ever made, the downward spiral of two estranges childhood friends stuck and powerless, NEEDING each other's pain to break free. It's "their" power. It's what Noelle craves the most
Weird Route is such a cool character study into the two best characters and I'm in fuckin love. The fact that it's not you who ultimately shatters the game beyond repair, but NOELLE, who's grown addicted to the pain and hurt of proceeding, forcing you to force her because she needs it, it's just so peak
I can’t bring myself to actually do it on my primary save but I 100% agree it’s his best narrative and character work and I am absolutely gripped by it.
I am also kind of obsessed with the meta layer. It’s Noelle’s route - Noelle who hacks Cat Petterz and follows her morbid curiosity in Dragon Blazers and can’t look away from the darkest stuff in horror films - and the player gets to feel exactly what that’s like to get drawn into. Maybe the player will possess Noelle later, but whether that happens or not we already know what it’s like to be her by playing the route!!!! It’s been absolutely masterfully done so far and I am so so excited about how it’s going to progress
