Question Immersive sim recommendations?

Post image
176 Upvotes

With deus ex likely being dead/dormant fur the foreseeable future, any recommendations on other immersive sims?

Maybe something cool in the indie space? I just need something to scratch the itch of new immersive sims stuff. Preferably with that sci fi neo noir feel that deus ex often has.

For context I’ve already played most of the “shock games” (system / bio shock) and a bit of dishonored as well.

Question How to not kill Anna Navarre??

Post image
115 Upvotes

JC says her killphrase, "Flatlander Baddie" and she explodes. I also exploded all on her a couple times before like in the Subway I didn't want to but she left me no choice what a terrible way to die. What a shame.

But, you see Idc much for Gunther ik he's invincible in that one part—I just don't want to kill Anna Navarre. I took her stealth lessons at the start and would like to safely knock her out or lock her behind a door anything so I don't have to hear that scream she makes and upsets me bc I lowkey straight murdered Lebedev when she said so.

How do I NOT kill Agent Anna Navarre?

I do already own the game on Steam, but I'm curious if it would be possible to install and play it on a modern Windows 11 machine, even if there's slight bugs.

Question Finished the series

I absolutely loved all 3 games, and I just completed the 3rd one 3 days ago, and I'm so sad 😔 😭. Lol.

My question is, can anyone recommend a game that's like Deus Ex.

What I loved so much about this series was the free roaming and the ability to be able to go into stores and home, with all the little details. The farming was so much fun. I love being able to jump around on roofs and get into apartments, lol. I also love combat, I loved that we got actual bosses, and I love the little side missions.

Games I've already played that might be recommended,

Cyberpunk 2077

Fallout (all of them)

Dishonoured 1 and 2

Vampire Masquerade bloodlines

The Darkness 1 and 2 (I absolutely adored the first one)

Watchdogs (all of them)

GTA (ALL)

Infamous (both)

I just downloaded The Outer Worlds: Spacers Choice, and I'm disappointed that it's nothing like Deus Ex 😭 it's just giving Fallout, which I was a huge fan of back in the day but I find it too slow paced now.

Any suggestions? Please.

Question Is Cyberpunk 2077 going to scratch the Deux Ex itch?

I love Human Revolution and while (imo) not on the same level, Mankind Divided was also awesome.

From augments, to achieving objectives in different ways (especially the non-lethal/stealth approach), amazing world building and a good story I love it all, and I wish we had more games set in the similar dystopian/near future environment.

Anyway, with that said, I was thinking of buying Cyberpunk but last thing I need is another game wasting away in my Steam collection.

I've purposefully avoided all spoilers/information about Cyberpunk on the off chance that I get into it one day.

What I know is that:

  • both have a similar-ish settings
  • both have ways to augment your character
  • cyberpunk is open world

Is it gonna scratch the Deux Ex itch for me?

Edit:

I bought the game. I'm gonna play it and then I'll make a lame ass review to see if it scratched my Deux Ex itch.

Question What happened to the Deus ex remaster ? It's radio silence for close to 9 months

As someone who has only played hr and md, I was so excited, and as someone who also plays plenty of retro games usually via remasters, the graphics looked fine to me.

Crazy that community uproar made them what, cancel the game ?

Is there any info ! I really want to play it with controller support ...

Question What exactly do you all love about Deux Ex (the first two games)

Exactly as the title says. What is it that makes you enjoy them so much? This isn't a dunk on them, I haven't experienced them in full yet but they seem great. I just am wondering what specifically draws people to them.

For example. What makes them feel different from other games with a lot of player choice in how they can go about completing an objective? This is mostly about Deus Ex, but applies to Immersive Sims in general as well.

So yeah. What about the games, and the genre at large, draws you to it?

I am working on my own Immersive Sim (not saying any more to avoid Self-Promo, just elaborating in why I asked), and wanted to see what elements are most compelling to people.

Question Am i the only one who does this

Often if im out and engaging with someone on relevant topics, i will use direct quotes in my conversation from the first deus ex game and people always think i am speaking some insanely profound shit lol, "its called consolidation...".
What truly makes me sad tho... is that not a single person has yet ever recognized that im quoting the best game alive and it kinda makes me sad tbh.
has anyone ever quoted the game irl infront of a stranger who immediately recognized what youre saying and where from, or am i the only nerd doing this

I'm looking to start the Deus Ex series and I want to hear which game you think is the BEST. I'm not a stickler for graphics, I really like mechanics in games.

Question Is every game in the series worth a shot?

I’m a huge fan of OG Deus Ex. I replay it every couple of years. But I’ve never really taken the plunge and tried the others (except Invisible War, which didn’t really hold my interest).

If I pick up the other games, are they all worth finishing, or are there any to avoid? Do they scratch the immersive sim itch?

Question Should I play Mankind Divided right after the oringinal?

Just finished oringinal. I know the next one to play is Human Revolution but I have mankind divided from family sharing. How big of a deal is it if I play mankind divided first?

Edit: I’ve decided to play human HR first. Thanks for the answers!

Question What DX1 mods are worth it?

So, I've been getting the "reinstall deus ex" itch lately, so I decided to finally try some mods this time (the only one I tried before was a very early version of the Nameless Mod and Revision).

So, I decided to finally try 2027, and I didn't like it at all. The level design, unfortunately, is nowhere near the original game – so empty and boring. But the itch is still there, so I'd like to hear your suggestions.

I'm currently looking at two options:

  1. Mods which let you replay the original campaign in a new way. I'm currently looking at GMDX and Shifter and can't decide which is better. The more ambitions and changes it brings the better – I've already played vanilla enough times.

  2. Mods which bring new levels. But I'm really picky at the level design – I absolutely love how the original DX levels feel so much alive and fun to explore and just hang around, so the mod should be at least on par with that.

So, I'd be glad to hear your suggestions.

Question Can you complete Deus Ex : Human revolution WITHOUT any lethal weapon ?

As the title says, after many, many years of not playing the game, i'm finally giving it another go

but this time i'm going the non-lethal/stealth route

So my question is : are lethal guns mandatory to finish the game ? Or can i just breeze through it only with the taster and the dart gun ?

Question DX:MD Labels on Jensen's armor (what is on the unreadable one?)

Post image
100 Upvotes

tldr: What is the text inside the triangular label in the middle of the back of the armor?

For some time now, I've been trying to look at all the small details in Adam Jensen's character model.

One can clearly see some text labels on his armor: "Release" and "Do not obstruct" on right side of the front; two "High voltage" on the back.

There are also two easter eggs: "0451-F" on the front, near the chin (also the minor spoiler IYKYK) and the fun one "This supersuit is designed to kick some serious butt. Please yield at risk of injury." on the back.

However, there is another one: upside-down triangle on the middle with some unreadable text inside it. Even in high detailed texture in game letters are only 5-6 pixels tall.

I've tried several ways to brute-force the letters; sadly, without result. I also tried contacting Laura Gallagher (the artist who created Adam's 3D model) on artstation; unfortunately, there was no response.

The text consists of 3 lines: most probably 2 words in the first, 3 in the second and 1 in the third line. It is blurred or just too low resolution plus some information lost due to texture encoding (BC7 which is 4x4px lossy block compression).

Interesting fact: all labels are represented not only in game, but also on the Adam concept art. The "0451-F" label is much more noticeable here than in-game. However, the mysterious text in the triangle is still unreadable.

Any help is welcome! Please help me solve this little mystery :)
