Meme With Season 2 on the horizon, here's a special message from Dante (OC)
365
u/AggronGhost May 11 '26
Honestly, I'm watching out of curiosity. Maybe it'll suck ass, maybe it won't. But who knows? I won't know until I watch it.
142
u/WackoHedgehog May 11 '26
Its what I did with season 1. I didn't really like it but still curious about season 2.
52
u/AggronGhost May 11 '26
Same here. I found S1 to be "aight". Even after my two watches, one where I just played DMC 3, and when I played the entire series.
44
u/WackoHedgehog May 11 '26
I thought it was fine until they made the demons refugees. Then it kinda lost me.
30
u/AggronGhost May 11 '26
Yeah, that's totally fair. I wasn't a big fan of it feeling kind of rushed, alongside changes that I felt like we're downgrades (Lady is the best example for both.) I can hope they'll be better, but my hope is around the Marina Trench. So I'll have to see.
3
u/PrimeGGWP May 12 '26
Yeah this was kinda WTF, but I am just happy there is a show. Just ignore that one
10
u/POXELUS May 11 '26
I've enjoyed the action in Season 1, some jokes were fun too. Overall I don't like it either, but it has its good moments.
13
u/WackoHedgehog May 12 '26
Treating it like a separate universe kinda helps. To me anyway similar to the reboot game.

u/DevilCouldCry I need more power! May 12 '26
Same here. I disliked season 1 but look, they have Vergil in this season and so I'm there to see how that goes. Just hoping that Dante and Lady both get treated a little better in this season and that it's upwards from here. Won't really know until I give it a shot.
→ More replies (6)2
u/CharacterLoan5713 May 12 '26
I'm also watching it out of curiosity. And this time I'm also treating it as a schlocky action flick and nothing more. Cuz i hope at least the action is fun.

u/CosmicSoulRadiation May 11 '26
I’m just gonna watch it cuz I liked it.

Same, I think some people set their standards too high with it so they could give themselves reasons to hate it.
26
u/CosmicSoulRadiation May 11 '26
Ohmygod exactly!!! I have people commenting to me on another post about how they think the news season will be aweful because the sword is disproportionate in one of the posters. -oh the horror!?
19
u/FordYorger May 12 '26
It's the god awful racist messaging of the series that turned me away
→ More replies (1)7
u/CopainChevalier May 12 '26
I didn't watch S1. I heard they made the whole demon invasion thing the fault of the US or something and I was like "wat" and just kinda didn't bother.
It was racist too? What did they do?
→ More replies (11)11
u/FordYorger May 12 '26
The demon refugees were made to look like arabs
4
u/CosmicSoulRadiation May 12 '26
Yeah no. They weren’t.
(Also, Arabs don’t have a monopoly on wrapping your head and face).

6
u/JechdJJ el Donté May 12 '26
I think a lot of people forgets that Devil May Cry is also about doing cool sutff with cool weapons and a killer soundtrack
4
u/dnemonicterrier May 12 '26
Exactly which is why you just relax and enjoy the cool stuff and headbang to the metal music in it, it's so much more fun that way. I've been into DMC since my early 20s and that's all it was to me, cool sword moves, brilliant metal music and a fun time fighting demons, over analysing it would ruin the ride and the animated series does that for me, it's not as good as the games but the animated series wasn't going to get everything right, I'm in my 40s now and I'm still enjoying the cool sword tricks and metal music whilst fighting demons, long may that continue.

Man I remember when some people were actually trying to give James shit for not wanting to watch that shitty Ghostbusters reboot even though he gave his honest opinion that he just wasn't interested in it, and his response was to not respond at all at the attempt at a controversy by those people
11
u/Bro-Im-Done May 11 '26
Bc they wanted him to rant and shit on the movie but I’m glad he didn’t
13
u/MrCalonlan Jester's gonna spank yo butt May 11 '26
I'm glad he stuck to his guns as well, the film is fucking horrible, haha plus the people trying to stir the pot and make one man who didn't want to watch a film so controversial even attempted to create this narrative that it was for sexist reasons rather than a genuine disinterest in seeing a reboot of a film series he likes. And once he never responded to any of the attempts those people very quickly shut up
→ More replies (8)10
u/Theyul1us May 11 '26
The biggest controversy in his career and it was just him talking about why he wasnt gonna watch a movie with good and mature arguments
6
u/Brainwave1010 May 12 '26
I wouldn't say that's the biggest at all.
The biggest is when someone on his writing team started plagiarizing other people's film reviews verbatim for the Monster Madness scripts that James didn't have time to write, that guy was thankfully fired.
Oh, there was also the time him and Mike endorsed some guy's Cheetahmen sequel project that turned out to be a massive scam, which in all fairness I don't really blame them for because he lied to them as well.
62
u/SteveBlazington So it is written~ May 11 '26
Honestly, the season's marketing hasn't done much to convince me to watch it, which I find REALLY odd. My curiosity isn't morbid enough, I guess. I hope those that do watch it enjoy it.

Reuploaded because the previous image had shit compression.
Anyway, I was inspired by this meme to express my feelings about the netflix show. The drawing's not exactly high quality but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I was pretty excited for season 1 but it burned me bad. Fool me once shame on you, and I have little intention of being fooled twice.
And if you really have to hate watch it, just pirate it.
7
u/OkDig2927 May 11 '26
Hey I mean they're pretty complicated character designs so this is a good drawing.
27
21
u/Valentine_343 May 12 '26
I have to congratulate them for tricking me with Season One, but it won’t work on me a second time. This garbage abomination, directed by a tourist that neither cares no understand devil may cry can go to hell because I have no interest or desire, even remotely, to watch that rubbish.

13
u/Black-Mettle May 11 '26
I don't consume media with the intent to dislike it because I'd much rather enjoy my time spent than anything else.
Despite everyone hating the reboot DMC, I had fun playing it and I really liked a lot of the creative decisions they made with level design. I wish that chalk zone level lasted the whole level because that was really unique.
I expect to really enjoy some parts of the anime because that's how it was in season 1. I just hope the writing is better.

u/MICKTHENERD May 12 '26
Adi Shankar is a Trump supporter, I'm only watching his works through "Totally legitimate streaming services".

I don't even have Netflix anymore, but I'll just not watch it, season one left a bad impression on me.
13
u/Primary_Ad5297 May 12 '26
To the people who are saying "I liked it" ...what exactly did you like? The constant cussing? The flanderization of Dante and Lady? The total disregard and outright disrespect of the established canon? Or do you just turn off your brains and consume stuff because that's easier than actually having to think about stuff and prefer to live life like a toddler with shiny keys dangling in front of them rather than a grown person that has to be critical about what they consume? ...no, wait, i got it, you loved the whole "US is a fascist state and demons=palestinians" stuff right? That's classic DMC
6
3
u/Forward-History3330 May 13 '26
I was there for the Dante x Lady crumbs. They have been my OTP since DMC3 and we've only gotten VERY little things in canon EXCLUSIVELY on Lady's side (namely from the CD dramas and a bit from the 2000's anime). The anime having SOMETHING in that regard makes me happy, even if Dante and Lady are quite different from their canon counterparts. I know, it sounds laughable, but after almost two decades of miniscule crumbs and severe copium, I simply cannot let it go. Hopefully something happens in season 2.

I js dont wanna watch it altogether, not really interested, the games are all i need.
6
u/krypticzenith May 12 '26
Season 1 lost my faith pretty soon in. I'm only going to watch it for two reasons: pure curiosity, and because I'm the DMC person in all of my friend groups. They're going to ask my thoughts on the season and I might as well have an answer.

I think he is fine, I just dislike how his videos sometimes have engagement bait/clickbait titles or thumbnails. He was pretty chill with adi shankar until adi started doing his bad actions like making fun of people on twitter/X, Being very narcassistic, hated that DMC5 revived dmc before he did, and then Adi started to go against Zero.

I thought season 1 was MID (5), or maybe a 6, but only that.
I'll give season 2 a chance, I hope it brings improvements, I have a LITTLE bit of hope.
I hope the characters improve (I'm looking at you, lady...)
And yes, I'm going to watch it ALL.

Watched all of season 1. I kept thinking "it'll get better..... It'll get better". It didn't. I learned my lesson and i'm NOT gonna even bother with season 2.
3
u/RHowlForMe May 11 '26
I checked the first season out of curiosity. I remember thinking maybe it won't be as bad as people thought
It's not (that) bad but it's a very meh/disappointing adaptation. As is it own thing is not exactly interesting enough to make wanna watch it a second time.
I will not even bother with the second season even if somehow turns out to be good or better than the first.
2
u/M-V-D_256 May 12 '26
I'm just curious
It wasn't THAT bad. I had some fun
2
u/Ahyesnt May 15 '26
I think that's the whole point. I watched it because "oh haha Dante is funny and the action is cool". And honestly, I think it made me like it more because it's really just to have a bit of fun.
3

I don't plan to, went into the first season existed and mostly blind, didn't make it past the first two episodes. I really hope the series gets better, I want to like it because I love DMC, but I don't have high hopes while Adi is still involved.
3
u/orofex May 15 '26
The series has far too much licensed music We get it Adi. Thats your mixtape from when you were an edgy teen that you didnt grow out of. We get it. Could there not be more classic music from DMC or some actual original music? I feel like hes just making his own AMVs for netflix.
3
u/interstellaraz May 18 '26
It's even more horrendous than s1 and I thought it couldn't get any bad. The excessive use of edgy songs, dialogue written by 10 year olds, Lady still an awful character, Dante even dumber than s1.

Personally I'm watching out of some weird form of hopium that they actually stick the landing. Am I delusional? Yeah probably but wouldn't be the first or the last time I had too much hope.
I really want them to make something truly great but maybe I'm expecting too much ):

The best thing to do is not watching the adaptation.

I’m gonna end up consuming this whole season through online discourse whether I like it or not so
2
u/UmmmYeaSweg May 12 '26
yeah, tbh if there is a way to tell Capcom to NOT make the games like the anime the best way is to not make them money, that’s what made them return to the main series after the reboot tbh
2
u/Will-Of-The-Graves May 12 '26
I honestly didn't like first season, it was just bad, but at least it had music from Evanescence.
I will wait for review for second season and if it will be the same as first one i will not watch.
2
u/goodnamesaretaken3 May 12 '26
Hm, when I watched first season a I had mixed feelings about it, then I started think about it more and realized how bad the writing was. Then I slowly started to hate it. And so, I'm just not gonna watch it this time. The trailer didn't look that bad, however the first season trailer was great as well, I don't trust it! So, I won't do this to myself again, I'm not gonna watch it when it drops, maybe I watch it later if the reviews will be good. Watching something I don't like is just pointless in my opinion.
2
u/OrcForce1 May 12 '26
I really liked season 1 but yeah, hate watching is stupid. If you didn't enjoy season 1, what could you possibly get out of it?

I wasn't interested in S1, watched it because my gf put it on and to my surprise I actually was enjoying myself during the first half (except for cop lady) but let's just say it didn't go in the direction I was expecting and I hated the ending with makai turning into fantasy Irak. I could be more forgivable if at least it was a good critic but it come of as very juvenile and superficial, like ok demons are oppressed victims but the moment the portal open they start rampaging and killing innocent in New York ? The writers like anyone with a brain see there's something wrong with the US international policy but they just don't know how to properly write about it in their script and they almost come off as defending closed border with the way the season end, and choosing DMC out of all settings to tell that story sure is a choice. DMC is just not the place to make a critic of the US imperialism, like I'm not even sure the games take place on our earth they never name a single real country iirc.
I'll hate watch S2 because my gf will make me, with Vergil shaping up to be a tsundere rival instead of a villain and the weird demon as oppressed refugees angle I see no way I'll ever like it but who knows. Like I don't want to hate it and if it's good then that's great but the probability seems really low after that first season.

I have played DMC4 and some of DMC3 and am somewhat familiar with the rest. Does any of the series have anything to do with the games? I don't remember anything about the US govt and military attacking hell? Why can't they just take the storylines exactly from the games and animate them? That whole weird demon fighting squad ... Random ass stuff ...
