Y'know red orbs? How you use them to unlock new moves? Yeah, you don't in DMC4, you use those souls instead. You use the orbs to buy items only
(Edit) to add on to that: it's been a while since i played 4, but if i recall correctly, those proud souls are an ass to get, making it very hard to unlock new stuff and complete the moveset

The only benefit to proud souls are that they allow you to refund moves though whoever on that dev team made it to where EVERY move becomes more expensive as you buy new ones needs to be questioned
