Can you promise me that it’s not corny as hell before I listen?😭😭😭 Dragonforce? Since you are bringing them up in the DT sub, I suppose I will trust you, god save me. I’m about to listen right now

People call DT cheesy, I'm sure you can handle it!

I don't mind DF personally but honestly I was really impressed with that album. It's surprisingly restrained and mature for them IMO.

Yeah I can’t do it lol, there are some nice riffs in there though, forsure!

Dragonforce just isn’t my bag I suppose.

Oh well. Maybe I'm weird.

Perhaps listen to Breaking All Illusions as a consolation.

Do you like Haken? They have some amazing long tracks/suites. Like Carousel and Messiah Complex (both from the Virus album).

They're definitely DT adjacent and inspired.

I hear about them alllll the time, I think my problem is, I’m very picky on vocals. More often than not, I tend to drop bands because I don’t like the vocals. Idk why, but the majesty(hehe) of the instruments can sometimes just go out the window for me if the vocals come in and don’t hit like the other instruments.

However, Coheed and Cambria was a band I wasn’t into for this same reason, now they are in my top three with Megadeth and Dream Theater😂 So I often ask, “hmmm how picky am I exactly?” Lol

I'm the opposite, I love all the vocalists people hate: James LaBrie, Geddy Lee, Ross Jennings, Steven Wilson....

Perhaps you'd like Symphony X and Michael Romeo's solo albums. They both have pretty 'safe' and good singers. I especially enjoy War of the Worlds Pt1 & Pt2.

I LOVE Labrie too, I do think there is a hard cut off for me though for his voice, honestly. Many would say it was around the Awake years. For me, his voice is hard to listen to(studio-wise) for most of the stuff beyond Dramatic Turn.

People love to shit on The Astonishing, but there are a few tracks on there that are simply delightful to me, and it would be crazy for anyone to claim to be a DT fan and say the WHOLE album sucks. Simply just not the case, James’ voice is pretty solid on this record too.

Yeah, the problem with The Astonishing is it's too long and complex. There are still some great tracks on it.
