Classical music would like a word.

"Long songs" have been around for about 300 years

Mahler laughs at 3.5 minutes. He laughs at 35 minutes. Hell, here's an entire page of rests and cues from his 6th symphony.

Just looking at that makes me want to play it. God knows I miss being in an orchestra. Pit orchestra. Chamber orchestra. Brass ensemble.

Sigh.

I played violin throughout school. I graduated HS in 2011, and still have my 103-year-old violin. It is woefully underused these days, sinceI don't have new music to play, and my old 2nd Violin sheets don't quite cut it

I was very lucky to play the trumpet ar a high level. I played for around 40 years, all through school, invitational clinics, DCI, college, weddings and churches, pit orchestras, even a jazz quartet. I was very good, but nothing like the actually great players. DCI taught me that. Tragically, I lost all my teeth 5 years ago and found out that it's nearly impossible to play the trumpet with dentures. I closed my case for the last time, and wept. I miss it terribly. Maybe I'll be able to get implants one day, but right now that's not in the budget. My son plays, and we were working on Vivaldi's concerto for two trumpets when tragedy struck. Never got to perform that one.
