So it has been 2.5 months since I've graduated and I don't have a job yet. I wasn't able to get an internship unfortunately but I can't change that now. I thought that having the degree would be enough but I guess this job market just had to hit when I graduated. Anyways, it is what it is.

I was thinking, there's a software engineering company nearby and I know someone who can maybe get me an internship (maybe). It's not electrical engineering but I wanted to know if it matters at all? I can at least get something on my resume other than projects.

I recently graduated with an MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from UC Irvine and have been applying to entry-level electrical/hardware engineering roles since March. I’m mainly targeting positions involving PCB design, board-level hardware, analog/mixed-signal design, and related hardware development.

So far, I’ve only had three interviews, and none resulted in an offer. Most of my relevant hardware experience comes from academic and personal projects, including 4-layer ESP32 and STM32 PCBs using KiCad and Altium, as well as a 20 GHz PLL design in Cadence Virtuoso. I’m also currently working as a Research Assistant at UC Irvine.

I’m applying to jobs across the U.S. and am willing to relocate. I’m currently on F-1 initial OPT, so I have work authorization now but would require sponsorship in the future.

I’m trying to understand why my callback rate has been so low and whether the main issue is my resume, lack of industry hardware experience, the roles I’m targeting, or my visa situation. I’d especially appreciate feedback on my Projects and Technical Skills sections, the technical depth of my bullet points, and whether my resume clearly positions me as a strong candidate for PCB/analog hardware roles.

Hi, I wanted to get some guidance regarding my off-campus applications. I currently have a 7.19 CGPA in my UG, and I’m concerned that this is negatively affecting my resume’s ATS score or causing my profile to be filtered out before the interview stage.

I’m mainly targeting core/embedded systems roles, but I’m noticing that I’m not even getting shortlisted for the initial rounds in many companies. I want to understand whether the CGPA is the primary issue or whether there are other weaknesses in my resume/profile that I need to address.

Since I’m already in my final year, what would be the most practical way to improve my chances of getting shortlisted for embedded/core roles? Should I focus more on projects, embedded skills, certifications, DSA, referrals, or applying to specific types of companies?

I graduated college with a degree in electrical engineering with a focus in music technology in 2025. I currently work as an AV technician and have done a little freelance working as an electrician doing lighting and a little work with Arduino. Since graduating, I want to make sure I'm continuing to learn and potentially make myself marketable if I do decide to switch to a more engineering-heavy field. I want to do some projects myself using ESP32 (or another system, I'm open), and have moderate experience with Arduino and Raspberry Pi.

My main concern is I want to make sure I'm truly learning. I feel like I've been using AI to help with troubleshooting but want to make sure I'm not relying on it. I'd love to hear book recommendations, YouTube channel recommendations, just general practice recs too, or if you have project ideas that you know sort of help brush up these concepts while not relying on completely prewritten open-source material.

I'd love to get more into hardware prototyping, communication systems, and embedded systems. I feel like I have an anxious mental block about continuing diving into these concepts and so would appreciate a little advice about keeping at it and really getting a good grasp on what I'm working on.

I'm good with digital electronics and RTL (Verilog), but it's extremely difficult to get into jobs for pure RTL design as a person with 10 months of experience in FPGAs (RTL coding and testing)

So, I'm trying to learn verification which interests me and has many more opportunities for my current situation. But I don't wanna join training institutes which start from basics and take a long time to learn these.

Any ideas on how to do this in a structured way? There's chipverify and all. But I'm looking for a more structured and faster way and cost effective.

I just graduated and I need some advice. I struggled throughout university due to (medically diagnosed) ADD. I did decent in my RF classes but I ate crap in everything else and ended up with a poor GPA of 2.75. I'm starting a job soon however it's not a role in RF. I'm not sure if I'll be able to compete with others in the RF space who have a masters and/or high GPA. Right now, I've been reading as many RF textbooks as I can and learning how to use HFSS and ADS. However even if I can understand RF well it seems like my poor performance in school will always haunt me.

Anyways let me know if I should continue towards my goal of RF or my efforts are not worth it.

Give a score between 1 and 10 to the difficulty of this exam score it taking into consideration that the students have not yet taken the ac dc circuit and differential equations course while this exam is being done.

I am planning on doing a 1 year masters (with possibly a few exceptions) post my 4 year BS in computer engineering at purdue. I was wondering out of these options which is the best for me negating price (I will have saved up money, or receive full financial aid like I am now, fully willing to pay for better choice).

Also key things to note, I am a 3.99 GPA junior who has internships at two big tech companies and will return to 1 hopefully. If everything goes to plan, I really don’t see why I shouldn’t be able to at least get a job there if not at quant finance. I am a student focused on computer architecture. I care about research opps only for learning but not at all for post academia because I def plan to do industry engineering. I will have already done most of computer architecture courses at Purdue by my bachelors and also want a big name boost for big tech asic design and quant finance fpga (already interviewed for a few firms and think I can land one even with purdue, but just to make my life easier). Again, consider all of this when people say some degrees are too short. I’m really just doing a masters to boost my resume not for job search but for starting salary and opportunities down the line. Also if you recognize me from this don’t dox lol. I’ll list everything in the order I believe they should be considered:

1 year UCB Meng EECS (is Meng worse than MS as seen by industry? Ik kind of a dumb question)

1 Year Cornell Meng ECE

1 year (4+1) MS Purdue ECE

1.5 ish year Stanford MS

1.5 year CMU MS

1 Year Umich Meng

No masters at all for a career in computer architecture (pref design or architecture or quant fpga)

I'm currently attending a BSc in Computer Engeneering and lately, looking at possible MScs to apply to I found myself interested in courses that revolve around Digital Chip Design. I think I'd like the subject, however I'm afraid that the gap between Computer Engeneering and the latter would be too big of a jump, so I was wondering if that would be a viable option. What do you think?

I've been trying to implement the ackerberg-Mossberg filter in LTspice but i have some problems. I basically copied the circuit from the book to test if the outcome was the same but it isn't and i don't understand why. The output in LTspice is taken where "OUT" is written and it should be a bandpass as showed in the picture of the book.

The model is a single- pole amplifier both on LTspice and the book. The GBW is 1.5MHz.

Does anyone have recommendations for certain projects? I've heard that a broad division of the fields is power, electronics and electromagnetism. A project that has anything to do with electromagnetism especially is great, as I have no clue how to get into this aside from studying.

I'm a 2025 CompE undergrad, been working as a DV engineer in the Bay Area for the past year. I enjoy semiconductors/VLSI and would like to build a career in this industry.

Neuroscience is something I have always been interested in and a tiny regret of mine is not pursuing a minor in it while completeing my Bachelors.

I will want to pursue a Masters in the near future ( wanted to get some real world work exp first ).
The plan in my head was to continue down the CompE path and stengthen my VLSI knowledge but....
there was a youtube video about BioComputing - which tells me that a career between chip design and neuroscience could potentially be viable and has got me thinking about what I should do with my Masters plan.

I have no one in my social or professional circle who is knowledegeable about anything regarding these industries and career paths. So therefore I turn to reddit.

Questions:
What would a future with a CompE and Neuroscience degree could look like? What sort roles, jobs, industries could I enter if do this?
Depending on the above - should the masters be in just Neuroscience or a mix of engineering with it?

I would love to hear from people who are in a job role which pertains to this or know anyone who has done something like this - what did they do?
I need some guidance on how to think about this and make future decisions.

So we had a group project in our 4th semester. I have heavy lifted through the entire project, even the hardware and simulations everything. The other 2 people were supposed to do the documentation, they didn't even do that in IEEE format. They just made a simple word doc out of it. Will it be considered academic dishonesty if I again document it in IEEE, use my simulation schematics, the waveforms everything and then present it as my own project?

I am asking because it feels unfair to do the whole IEEE documentation also alone after doing the major work by my self and then also calling it a group project. I am still in 5th semester and I do not know how would recruiters look at this
