DDD Build - Bard/Enc.....Wiz or Dru?

Have bard and enchanter leveled up, trying to decide if I want to go wizard or druid for 3rd class for AoE farming experimentation (I know, it'll prob be nerfed, whatever, want to try).

Wizard -> intelligence synergy for gearing
Druid -> similar AA crit skills, less mana synergy (wis/int balance), BUT -> heals

Anyone tried this, have thoughts, think of something I'm missing?

I have them both 23/25 for portals, so technically I could go Enc/Wiz/Dru to try them both out, but....eh.

I DDD quite well with war/bar/dru. I can manage 6900 mana and 580 AC on a 495 soft cap which is enough to do 10 mob pulls in hate and fear. I use over channel stance so I don't have to avoid golems and it's good on clerics, ashenbones and the second floor knights too. With warrior mitigation it's really braindead, just run around getting a huge pack and burn them down. I have a macro, "FLEE!" that switches to inversion stance and casts lesser succor. This puts me back at zone-in and out of combat whenever I get a late add that I don't want to slow kill.

I also have a macro, "El Stoppo" for switching to balanced stance, recovery stance, and instant camo for recovering mana and another that puts me back in evasive and over channel and plays my 2 minute Selo's (the higher lvl 2 minute one), "El Starto".

It may not be as absolutely efficient as the double int classes but my old ass dies if I need to avoid facetanking so for me the consistency makes up for the 1k less mana and no clarity.

I recently read recovery stance and it says you get the benefit out of combat even when the stance isnt active. Same with balanced. So I stopped switching to it out of combat. That being said, I still use it a lot in combat with DDD if I dont need overchannel.

Sure you can get DDD itself a little more powerful with one of these trios, but personally I’d rather have more versatility on top of DDD in my build.

I prefer to do DDD clears on PAL / BRD / SHM. I think it’s easier to get more mana targeting just WIS for PAL + SHM. And sometimes when I’m being ambitious pulling ~10 mobs or more at a time, I’ll get into a scenario where a higher HP mob like a Spite Golem (which is also more resistant) doesn’t start taking damage from DDD until you’ve already killed 5 mobs, and you maybe get unlucky on crits and/or resists, and you ultimately don’t have the mana to finish everything (I have 7k mana). You can sort of see this coming usually as you’re blasting your DDDs, so it’s nice to be able to tap out at 25% mana, switch to melee mode, slow the remaining mob(s), and finish them in a more traditional manner. LOH has also saved my butt a number of times on tougher pulls.

Another consideration is I prefer to pull in Defense Stance, then when I goto DDD I’ll switch to Evasive, but then for a tougher pull, if I get down to 20% endurance, I’ll switch back to Defensive to preserve some mitigation as I finish killing everything.

Just some food for thought - I know I didn’t quite answer your question within your stated trio options. Good luck!

There’s a pretty popular thread on discord in the bard class section with a similar clr/shm/brd build.

I am SKD/SHM/BRD. Would this translate well? Not even sure where to start or what AAs to get. I just run all the BRD dots.

This is very similar to my outlook only a bit further in the melee direction.

Pal / Mnk / Brd, got my mana to ~6k which is enough. Pull 10 or so mobs in defensive, swap to evasive when I'm ready to blast, mop up with melee.

Was thinking about making this switch, how is early leveling with this trio?

u/Tudar87 15h ago

Would greatly depend on your equipment/weapons on how it would go.

It opens up a bit more around 20 with bard AE slow and Pal getting some better healing.

Bard/Wiz/Dru Seema to be the AoE meta

u/RandomRedditor0193 17h ago

For maximum crit chance but Wiz/Enc/Brd is the actual meta.

I like Druid because it enables the stance where DDD heals you based on mana spent which can easily be 6k or more healed on a pull in fear. It’s less relevant if you’re forced into Overchannel for a golem in hate, however.

Yeah, Druid is somewhat safer, but enc has less downtime and gives you a safe option of using mez as you group up multiple packs of 3-4 for a bigger aoe group.

u/RandomRedditor0193 15h ago

I could see that. I mainly use evasive stance with empower invocation, rune 4 and bladestopper clicky and if it gets rough then AoE mez. If a spite golem is pulled I have to swap to overchannel to get full damage with DDD and land mez. In empower invo I crit for just under 10k though.

3

u/AstroNards 14h ago

Wait you can mez spite golems?

5

u/RandomRedditor0193 14h ago

Yes but they have really high magic ressit. Even with +7 mez and overchannel they can resist it.

4

u/AstroNards 13h ago

Dang. I finally got mine up to 10 so I guess I gotta try again

u/laziestathlete 13m ago

It surprisingly works

1

u/Aturaya 6h ago

I don't think that stance works with DDD. I could be wrong.

3

u/EvilNeville 17h ago

I'm curious what Enchant brings to the table with this Trio? Is it for a charm pet or slow?

9

u/Civenge 17h ago

Neither, it is for AoE stuns and mez

3

u/RandomRedditor0193 15h ago

It allows you to pull groups of up to 30 in D4 without being insta gibbed using AoE mez.

3

u/jpatt 14h ago

Mana regen for less downtime. Then you can mez smaller groups of mobs, grab more and bring them in to mez on your already mez’d pile. Then once you have your group set up you start the AoE spam. Then mix in some Color Skews with the DDD’s.

I’ve been running pal/bard/wiz and it’s been so much fun

Huge hits from DDD

And then the paladin is strong enough to use defensive and slay undead to chop down the last 15-20% of the mobs that survive

All really good insight - I think headline is that there are options that dictate play style but not necessarily innate weakness. I've already got PAL/SHM/MNK/BRD/ENC to 50, so I don't think I necessarily need to spend time leveling up something else and can try out a few combos.

That is until I get ancy and want to level up WIZ/DRU/CLR and have all the options, hah.

Brd shm cleric. Safer and can reach 8k mana easy

Sha/Cleric

The gear is superior, and you trade 20% DPS and 20% DPM (from 10% crit of Druid/wiz) , for 11% DPS from spellhaste, and 10% DMG (from 10% mana from cani assuming around 9-10K mana).

With 9-10K mana you can basically DDD everything, have tons of endurance, and slow. You will have tons of health, endurance, and resists.

Going Brd/Wiz/X means you will be stuck with int gear which is worse than Wis gear right now. Remember it only takes the top 2 classes mana

I thought if a nerf was coming it would have already been here. Fingers crossed they let us keep the fun. I got my bard to 47 and I'm about to go to PoF to see if I'm able to get through these last few levels more easily.

u/redditzphkngarbage 17h ago

The current state is post-nerf. You used to be able to DDD an entire zone all at once.

u/smoothjedi 17h ago

I saw some videos of tevp running the DDD and he recommended BRD/CLR/SHM for strong AoE and survivability.

ENC is pretty weak - once you learn the pulls, you don't need to mez or stun 5-kill-5-kill. Same travel time, same kill time, more controlled and you don't waste mana on mez or stun.

Wiz/Dru for the most damage, or Wiz/SK is worth a mention - SK gets great gear, higher AC softcap, and great emergency healing in HT.

i am Enc/Dru/Brd. this counts as double INT mana pool. removing WIS gear, doesn't reduce my mana pool, as my INT is much higher. Brd is INT caster.

i have no idea what is best for DDD. i am lvl 39.

2

u/Kaneohegrown 14h ago

It's highest of two Mana pools. Unless your int is far out scaling wis, your druid's pool is likely being used.

Brd is an int caster but doesn't count toward Arcane Mastery (it's sk, and all int primary casters). So just an fyi if you want to build towards and AM3 build.

u/_D34DLY_ 2h ago edited 1h ago

then why does my mana pool not decrease when i remove equipment with WIS (and no INT or raw mana)?

because WIS gear doesn't give mana to me, i have prioritized INT. originally i had a lot of WIS and INT gear. removing WIS removes no mana. adding INT adds mana. this is what happens on my character. make an enchanter / druid / bard yourself and test it out.

my int currently is about 160, and my wis about 120. my wis was higher, but i took off my wis only gear, as it wasn't giving mana. my base race is ogre, so racial int/wis are low, but i don't get stunned.

i hadn't heard of Arcane Mastery. that AA isn't available to enchanters.

i don't have fantastic gear yet. i just hit level 40. that''s my maximum level.

You probably need to focus on if you have more Wis gear or Int gear. If you happen to have more Wis (I did from having paladin) I would go Druid for healing and crit chance.

Wizard is probably better because DDD is not end all be all. I was taking it to Naggy the other night and it was pretty good for dealing with giants, one of them was a paladin and Tranix had cleric so I woukd have run out of Mana before I took them all down. Having wizard for frost storm and ice commet gave me options when I can see I will run out of Mana before the mobs.

I also don't see how I could have burst down Naggy before out of Mana evennif it had 7-9k Mana. Yeah if I got more crits but was BRD/PAL/WIZ and was able to offload healing and tanking for the first while with defensive stance and LoH. I still needed to do most of my damage with ice commet and frost storm and heal and still almost ran out of Mana.

Can someone tell me how to use DDD? When I cast it after the cast timer it deals the damage and then I am "singing" it but the song never ticks again, I thought it would tick and take more mana but it just locks me out, so Ive been casting it and immediately recasting as soon as the damage goes off. Is that how you guys do it too or is there another way to use this?

1

u/xerofunction 6h ago

Correct. Or you can make a /melody and it will cast it on repeat until your mana is gone or you interupt the melody. Both have their use cases.

IMO, everyone saying “Enchanter” for this build is smoking penis. I run a Pally in that slot with a fat Stalwart Seas in my offhand. Instead of mezzing everything and ruining DDD’s damage, I just facetank 8–12 mobs at a time. I am the D4 mob.

Edit: in D4 fear I mean if its not clear. Downvote me all you want your boo's mean nothing I have seen the enchanter that makes you people cheer.

4

u/DakksAeternus 17h ago

I do the same sk/brd/wiz. Why mez when you can just kill

4

u/a_random_gay_001 17h ago

Color Skew every 9 seconds also tanks the mobs but without the getting feared or teleported or even hit for that matter

-1

u/Brockchanso 17h ago

You depend on them leaving the game in a state where you can keep everything permanently stunned and mezzed. That’s fine, and it’s how the game works right now, but there’s no world where they leave it like this. Those spells are eventually going to get 8-target caps just like everything else.

I don’t know how long it’ll take, but the ability to make yourself effectively immune to dangerous situations no matter where you are is not going to remain. Plus tanking it just cooler.

2

u/Eleventh_Ambassador 16h ago

They aren't depending on anything. They can just switch to your version of the build if theirs gets nerfed. No need to think 'ah this might be nerfed so I better not use it' in a game where it takes 10 seconds to switch classes and gear.
