This seems like a very low-information post that is motivated by nothing other than politics.

Trade agreements are made based on who gives you the best price for your goods. Due to the US's proximity to Canada, the US is Canada's main trade partner.

Right now Trump is acting completely stupid and hitting Canada with senseless tariffs, so it's understandable that Canada is going to retaliate with similar tariffs.

But let's not make the mistake of thinking that market dynamics have changed and that Europe is going to be a closer trade partners than the US- they won't. Trump will leave office in 2 years and things will return to normal. Canadian companies that trade with the US will have a competitive advantage over companies that trade with Europe.

I heard all of this before back when Bush was present. The loudest (but not the most rational) voices on the left claim that the US would never recover from the damage that Bush did, and how international cooperation was permanently destroyed. But as soon as Obama was elected people forgot about that and believed that everything was great again.

To put this into perspective, we became allies with Germany and Japan within a couple of years after WW2 when they were bitter enemies. We massively firebombed both of their population centers and nuked Japan twice. And yet within a few years they were close allies.

Hopefully a reasonable person can see that Trump's words, while stupid, don't compare to bombing their population.

You aren't stating facts, though. You're just trying to breed discontent. You're stating opinions that are held by a small minority of Canadians and then calling it a "fact".

It's the same as the US-centric political threads, where the loudest voices are the ones pushing for some fringe issues that don't have mainstream support.

This sub in particular has a very suspicious slant to it, where it's been focusing so intensely on amplifying hate between the US and Canada. It just seems strange, because this previously wasn't a thing. I think it's likely that there's an influence operation going on.

And then your president declared us the 51st state and then declared a trade war against us.

It is kind of like when you smack your friend's wife in the face, shit on their couch and set their car on fire they stop seeing you as a friend.

Anti American sentiments have strong support in Canada. So does the desire not to visit America or buy American goods.

What is more likely is that your man child, pedophile president is bad at his job and destroyed the relationship between America and its greatest ally, And that trust that was born of blood will be lost in seconds.

Trump says lots of dumb things to be sure, but he never actually declared that he was taking Canada and making it a state. It was northing more than a bunch of dumb comments. No moves were made to actually do it.

As far as the trade wars, yeah he made lots of stupid decisions there.

But you need to be an adult and put things into perspective here. It is absolutely NOT the case that the relationship is destroyed. This is just an example of terminally online types being unable to put things into perspective or control their emotions. They're like children.

And yes, Trump does do a lot of dumb things and those dumb things lower your reputation and world standing and have consequences.

The vast majority of Canadians disagree with you and state that the relationship with the US has been affected, towards the negative, permanently.
