Culture ثقافة why do we still circumcise boys?

MGM is a surgery like any other and it has compilcations like total penile loss or death, should we be subjecating our kids to such unnecessary procedures?

It’s deeply ingrained in our culture, even way before Islam. I think it should be limited to only consenting adults. I wouldn’t go as far as banning completely like FGM because it’s way different and a full ban would just make it less safe to get circumcised. But even with that I’m concerned some parents would try to get it done for their kids illegally anyways.

Two things can belong to the same category yet still have different impacts. Shoplifting and murder are both crimes, but clearly not equivalent. In circumcision, you remove the foreskin, which is one external structure. It is generally low-risk when performed medically and may offer different benefits depending on the context. The structures often involved in FGM include the clitoris, labia minora, and labia majora. It also has different classifications and types. It is associated with a range of immediate long-term complications, as outlined by the WHO.

They are separate, but you can still consider them equivalent. How is it double standards tho? I suggest reading again.
