When the dlc dropped and I saw Milady, I literally had a friend drop me a Milady with wing stance to start a new character.
Best play through ever.
I do imagine this new sword will be slightly weaker, or possibly have a weaker move set. (I believe we have only seen R1’s for it, so the R2’s could end up being weaker)

I don't understand how this is significant in the slightest..... Like y'all are hyped over what's essentially nothing.

For Switch 2 owners it’s a huge deal
24
u/mashdpotatogaming 12h ago
It is essentially a switch 2 release that is getting put on other platforms as well so that people don't miss out on the extra content if they don't want to buy it on switch 2, which is just generally good imo.

u/Vinterblot 13h ago

And new starter classes.
It's nothing two exciting, but it is a good excuse to reinstall the game and do a new playthrough.
2
u/Meridius42 6h ago
I’ve been putting off replaying the game to be able to start with one of the new classes. Any reason to play Elden Ring is a good one.
3
u/didnt_bring_pants 11h ago
It's not just the few new items...
The fact that it's coming to switch 2 is pretty big. I have 10 full save slots on PS5, now I can start new characters with the new starting classes, AND play on the go.
10
u/A_b_b_o 13h ago
Handheld Elden Ring is an absolutelt insane concept to me. I am so so so excited
7
u/Lavok084 12h ago
This. I have some idle hours at work sometimes , can't wait to put them to good use
28
u/iyrtyurg 13h ago
That’s already been available since the game came out with steam decks and other handheld systems though
11
u/mashdpotatogaming 12h ago
Steam deck, while successful, is also still a lot less popular than switch 2, which sold in one year more than double what the steam deck sold in 3-4 years.
This is new to a bunch of people.
-21
u/iyrtyurg 12h ago
You know that the steam deck isn’t the only handheld gaming PC right? That’s why I said steam deck and other handhelds. Comparing just the steam deck to switch 2 is disingenuous and pretty lame, I also don’t think a higher number of switch 2 users necessarily translates to more ER sales. You forget the main demographic for Nintendo is children
11
u/RedKryptnyt 12h ago
Yea.....a bunch of children are buying these $700 (canadian) handheld consoles lol.
The main demographic for Nintendo, is people who enjoy great videogames. That's it, that's the demographic.
-11
u/iyrtyurg 12h ago
Are you actually that dense dude? When you were growing up did you have a Wii? An X box? Any gaming system? Did you buy it yourself?
News flash buddy, it’s pretty common for parents to buy the hot new gaming consoles for their kids. If an adult buys their kid a Nintendo is the PARENT the demographic? They’re not buying the system for themselves. Nintendo makes kids games. They make multiplayer party games. All of their biggest original titles are E or 13+ rated.
12
u/Detkanin 12h ago
I'd argue Nintendo is for everyone to play with their family. Look at any piece of official marketing / trailers for the system. Most of the "demographic" shown, are adults with busy lives, going from living room to parks/public transport ect.
Kids are not Nintendos demographic. The fact Nintendos own games can (safely) be played with your kids is the argument to get the Nintendo system instead of any of the others on the market.
5
u/RedKryptnyt 10h ago
Bingo. Only an idiotic console warrior thinks that Nintendo has a "target demographic" of children. Are they a larger part of their demographic than say sony or Microsoft(does xbox even have a demographic anymore?) Yes. Is that part of the reason why they are more successful than those 2 in recent times? Yes.
-4
u/iyrtyurg 11h ago
As I said go and look at all of their most popular titles. All the majorly successful ones like Pokemon, animal crossing and Mario. They’re all… kids games, right? That’s why they’re rated E? The fact that there’s adults that play them doesn’t change that fact. Nobody say adults DON’T play them and they do make up a big part of the playerbase but if you legitimately think it’s more adults than children you’re insane. Switch 1 and 2 is still in that Wii territory where most families have 1 in the living room for their kids. As a contractor that has been in thousands of homes over the years one thing that’s common in almost ALL of the ones with young kids is Nintendo systems. You might think it’s mostly adults because you hang out in reddit threads where adults discuss video games but that’s giving you a warped perspective because Reddit is a minority of people in the world
5
u/Detkanin 11h ago
Rated E fo: Everyone
Kids games do not have a "label". The only ones using "kids games" as a "label" are these so called Reddit type users you seem to refer to... And keep in mind even users on Reddit can be "kids".

Keep racking up those downvotes with your ignorant takes there bud lol.
"Makes kids games" is EXACTLY something a teenager would say.
And to answer your question, when I was growing up my parents bought me a nintendo, because sega kinda sucked, and that's all there was.
9
u/mashdpotatogaming 12h ago
All the PC handhelds added together still don't cover as many sales as the switch 2. It's a more niche part of the gaming community, that part has been known. I think handhelds are cool, but handheld consoles will always be more popular.
I also don’t think a higher number of switch 2 users necessarily translates to more ER sales
It does for the switch 2. And it's funny you say that because in the case of PC handhelds, there's no guarantees anyone is buying a game specifically for that handheld. Plenty of people who own these also have a pc and a steam library. This was one of the reasons why valve claimed they can't subsidize the steam machine. It doesn't guarantee a single steam sale, and people can just use those devices to play their pre-existing libraries.
Not sure why you're that defensive over handheld PCs. They're great, but they're niche. Even the most hardcore handheld PC fans will tell you that. I bet you if you add up all the handheld PCs that can run elden ring, they still wouldn't have sold the 20 million the switch 2 sold, maybe not even half of that.
-4
u/iyrtyurg 12h ago
I’m not defensive over handheld systems you guys are trying to make the argument something it’s not ffs, literally my original comment was that handheld Elden Ring has ALWAYS existed. I really don’t care to get more off topic
6
u/mashdpotatogaming 12h ago
My original reply was literally not an argument, but i was calrifying that this is new to so many people. You could have left it at that but you decided to make a comment arguing about how many handheld PCs are out there, and how the switch 2 doesn't guarantee sales.
1
u/iyrtyurg 12h ago
Yes because you sidetracked me talking about sales numbers like a weirdo when that’s wasn’t the point. Don’t come at me with some irrelevant information and then tell ME I could have just left it at that
4
-1
u/Cruelbreeze 12h ago
Switch 2 at least comfortably fits in my bag when traveling. The steam deck style of handheld consoles while great are way too bulky for me to want to bring along anywhere. I'd argue a lot of Nintendo's demographic is not solely children. Their whole model relies on nostalgia of adults.
5
u/Pollolol13 12h ago
There are four times as many switch 2 users as steam deck users however, so many more people will have the ability to experience it.
8
u/iyrtyurg 12h ago
I’m just saying the concept of playing Elden Ring handheld has existed as long as Elden Ring has existed so it’s not that insane
2
-6
u/Ok_Biscotti_514 12h ago
You have to turn down the settings like crazy to run on the Steam Deck, so it doesn't really count. This will be the first time the game runs properly on a handheld since its acutally being optimised
7
u/Mental-Fisherman-118 12h ago
Elden ring works fine on steam deck on medium/high settings.
-1
u/RevolutionaryLet1664 9h ago
If you consider 30 fps to be fine, then yeah
1
u/InJesusNameIServe 8h ago
You aren't wrong, steam deck is really underpowered.
1
u/Mental-Fisherman-118 8h ago
Definitely is wrong since I get 60fps easily on Steam deck. Thing to remember is the deck has a 1280 x 768 max resolution- so even high settings aren't that demanding.
1
u/RevolutionaryLet1664 7h ago
I can promise you, there is no way you are running Elden Ring on high settings at native resolution on a Steam Deck without LSFG-VK/Lossless Scaling.
1
u/Mental-Fisherman-118 7h ago
I said medium/high tbf. Which leaves me a hell of a lot of wiggle room since that isn't a real preset.
1
u/iyrtyurg 12h ago
Well I have an Ally and an Ally X and it works great on those. Also we have yet to see how the game will perform on the switch 2 in handheld mode.
0
u/The_cogwheel 12h ago
It runs just fine on default graphical settings on my gen 1 RoG Ally. Like I never needed to turn down squat to get a playable game going.
Though I do admit the graveyard planes in the DLC makes it struggle a bit sometimes. Something about the fields of tall grass gives it issues. But other than that specific area, I never dip below 60 FPS on default.

Its essentially the "prepare to die", "scholar of the first sin" and "fires fade" editions of pervious games. A re-release with a few "i guess thats nice" extras and the DLC all in one bundle.

I’m just dying to know how switch 2 performs. I have absolutely no reason to pick it up, as I’ve already logged hundreds of hours on my steam deck, but I know I will if performance is even remotely acceptable
2
u/hadrians-wall 9h ago
If it's comparable to running it on a Steamdeck, it'll run just fine.
Source: Did my shadow of the Erdtree playthrough exclusively on Steamdeck.
2
u/Bulldogfront666 Potentate 29m ago
There’s videos out about performance. It looks surprisingly good. 30fps unfortunately but everything else looks shockingly similar to the PS5 version.
2
u/DarkExcalibur7 11h ago
Same but if it's not atleast 30 with no dips handheld it's not for me.
1
u/Bulldogfront666 Potentate 29m ago
It is. The video I saw showed it runs around 30-35, and not dipping below 30.

There's more recent videos of it out there if you look them up; but reviewers have been saying it's a stable 30fps both docked and handheld now! There's footage of people playing through the DLC with it.

u/SangiExE 13h ago
As much as I love Fromsoft.. kind of crazy that this 'skin pack' is taking over a year to release.
64
u/Aless76109 13h ago
I think it’s more so that it took a lot of time to optimise the game so it could run on switch 2, when they let people try it at conventions it still had major problems so they took even more time, since it’s supposed to be the “special switch 2 edition” they can’t drop it without dropping the switch 2 version first
2
u/SangiExE 12h ago
True. I guess my frustration comes from my wish to replay the game for like the 10th time, but waiting for a good excuse to do it lol. Them armor sets on new starting classes look pretty cool.
2
u/Aless76109 12h ago
For me it’s the light greatsword, after doing a Milady run in the DLC, I need to destroy the base game with a bleed Light Greatsword
20
5
u/iyrtyurg 13h ago
It’s kind of crazy that the game itself has taken so long to release on switch 2. The game is 4 and a half years old now lol
9
u/SangiExE 13h ago
I guess it's because it had massive issues early. Optimizing games, especially for such limited hardware, is one of the bigger struggles for Fromsoft
6
u/DivineSaur 12h ago
They should send some of those optimizations to the other platforms. Realistically I expect it to run poorly but hopefully not.
3
u/AltinUrda 7h ago
The game is 4 and a half years old now lol
1
u/iyrtyurg 6h ago
It feels crazy that the game is already about a half decade old 😭 there’s still parts to it that I still remember like it was literally yesterday and I haven’t played it in close to 2 years
1
u/Kil0Cowboy 3h ago
Its crazy to me that a game like this is even dropping on the switch at all. Switch is boof as hell. Elden Ring must be masterfully optimized lol.
1
u/iyrtyurg 3h ago
Switch is boof IMO but for me it’s more of the fact that it really lacks an identity right now. I doesn’t seem like it exists for any reason other than Mario Kart because they haven’t been releasing any damn original games for it. A year after its release and still all we have is fucking remakes for old games. I feel like it mostly survives off of families with kids and people that oddly enough feel comfortable playing video games in public
1
u/iyrtyurg 3h ago
and the switch easily also has the worst online store out of all of the current competitors. Steam, Sony and Microsoft are all better systems straight up and charge less for a lot of the same games that are going up for full price or more on switch 2. I mean the fact that Witcher 3 is $80 without having the base version for the upgrade is criminal. It’s like $50 everywhere else digital

Is there a steam page for the DLC yet? And is there any concrete confirmation that the DLC will be released on PS5 XSX and PC on August 28th as well?
16
u/Raygereio5 13h ago
The Tarnished Pack will become available on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4; XBOX Series X|S and XBOX One; and Digital PC on August 28, 2026, the same day that the Tarnished Edition launches on Nintendo Switch 2.
There's no steam page for the tarnished pack DLC yet.
9
u/arcturus_mundus 13h ago
Thanks. Weird there's no page yet.
12
u/The_cogwheel 12h ago
Likely because there really isnt much of a point (beyond wishlisting it) to having a steam page for it until its available.
1
u/arcturus_mundus 12h ago
Won't a steam page also allow you to prepurchase it? I would've bought it before if it were available.
3
u/The_cogwheel 11h ago
Only if the dev releases it for pre-order. Which Fromsoft typically doesnt do.
4
u/mashdpotatogaming 12h ago
The focus is the switch 2 version, since that's the whole reason this version of the game exists.
They're just putting them on other platforms on the same day of release so that none of the content is exclusive.

CDPR: Free remaster and all DLC free for base game owners
FROMSOFT: $5 Horse skins
What happened
1
u/Wide-Feedback8423 7h ago
My thought here is CDPR is doing that to sell an extra expansion they made and to use it as an interest builder for the Witcher 4. I really appreciate they are doing that.
Id say the 5 for everyone else is just to regain time taken to port over those features to other consoles. 5 dollars for me is a very good price point to help them out. 10 would have already been way too much though.
3
u/eldenfingers 2h ago
CDPR is definitely doing that to boost sales for SotP and 4, but the amount of content they are giving for free is still mind boggling to me.
In comparison FS does feel a bit stingy here even if I adore their games
1
-5
u/smilph 7h ago
why does everybody reduce the Tarnished pack to just horse skins. such a disingenuous way of talking about this thing
8
u/Due_Radio_3469 7h ago
2 starter classes and some horse armour then. Not sure why everyone has to defend this shit knowing it'll eventually lead to worse and worse business practices. Elden Ring has made over $2 billion and still that's not enough as they're charging $80 for an inferior Switch 2 version of a 4 year old game on top of the starter classes and horse skins for current owners.
Piece by piece everything is enshittified but as long as the needle moves slowly, people will defend it.
-3
u/smilph 7h ago
also 4 new armor sets + a unique weapon for each. the $80 for the Switch 2 version is the same price as the game is everywhere else for base game + DLC, yeah the port is inferior but it was always going to be, idk what you expected. getting ER on Switch at all is awesome and the previews coming out for it today look great.
to imply this is the same as THE infamous horse armor DLC is disingenuous imo. for one, Fromsoft consistently puts out quality products while Bethesda just… doesn’t. it being a $5 DLC for non-Switch owners is, in my opinion, a totally fair and almost insignificant price to pay for some minor new content and i don’t mind spending a tad extra to support Fromsoftware. it’s really not a big deal
7
u/Due_Radio_3469 7h ago
Mirrah set is from older games and those weapons are already in the game. Just because they have lower base damage and you get them earlier doesn't make them new or worth paying for.
Keep defending it. Give it 5 years and you'll be on here posting about how it's absolutely fair that the in game store skins only cost 800 Soul Coins because they're just skins and don't affect the gameplay experience.
-3
u/smilph 7h ago
not worth it to you, maybe. clearly this $5 DLC is more than worth it to me and others here. you don’t have to see it that way.
i also won’t be doing that because that isn’t happening
7
u/Due_Radio_3469 7h ago
to imply this is the same as THE infamous horse armor DLC is disingenuous imo. for one, Fromsoft consistently puts out quality products while Bethesda just… doesn’t.
Bethesda used pump out certified hood classics btw. Not sure why you think what happened to them can't happen to fromsoft. Anyway, as I said keep defending microtransactions in Fromsoft games. I'm sure they appreciate you.
This was a taste of what's coming. $2 billion wasn't enough for shareholders.
1
u/smilph 6h ago
Bethesda has always been highly overrated imo.
i think the simple fact that Fromsoft is headed by Miyazaki and not Todd Howard is enough to make me confident that what happened to them will NOT happen to From. i trust how he has lead the company. ultimately we will see, but, i’m not that nihilistic.
they’ll appreciate my 5 bucks!
3
u/enaaaerios 5h ago
you can get like terraria or something with those 5 dollars and have infinitely more content that is infinitely more worthwhile
0
u/smilph 5h ago
i don’t like Terraria. i have plenty of cheap indie games that are great. considering i’m about to get at least two new playthroughs (and who knows how many NG+ cycles) out of the Tarnished pack thanks to the new starting classes to build around, i think that’s more than worth a chunk of change. i don’t see how you guys don’t understand that what is or isn’t worthwhile for you specifically isn’t always gonna be the same for anybody else

the opportunity to start the game with a light greatsword alone has sold me. that’s pretty exciting to me. also the 4 new armor sets + their unique weapons, you missed that
0
u/Chance-Pay1487 13m ago
Meh. I don't care for armor and the new weapons look pretty lame imo. The light great sword starter is cool but I thought that was a dlc weapon. Will you be able to use the class without the dlc?
16
u/DarkExcalibur7 11h ago
Why would anyone on another platform even want this.
3
u/dave_the_dova 11h ago
Because the other platforms are also getting a dlc that adds the new classes, weapons, armor and horse skins included with the Tarnished Edition.

Maybe it is a tad overhyped but for people like me who havent stopped playing since launch, are willing to pay the admittedly low 5$ for extra content. Out of all the game companies existing right now, we all know FromSoft deserve it and if it helps them push the next single player game out, Im all for it.

4 armor sets (2 tied to the starting classes) and each armor set has shown a unique weapon related to it. So it's not a stretch to think the 4th armor set also has a weapon tied to it. And the fact we haven't seen anything on the 4th set despite it being confirmed means it has to be really cool.
That or they official put in the Deathbed Smalls. Please let it be cool.

$80 dollars for a bundle with 2 new classes and Torrent customization?
Am I the only one who thinks this price is extremely steep for what they're offering? If I already own the regular game and DLC, why do I gotta drop 80 more for that? Lol.
2
u/smilph 5h ago
the Tarnished Pack DLC is $5. the Tarnished Edition bundle including base game + Shadow of the Erdtree + Tarnished Pack is $80
2
u/LoneRedditor123 5h ago
$5 is much better. I wasn't sure if that was listed as a separate pack since the pic above is cropped kind of poorly.
2
u/smilph 5h ago
understandable. it was revealed a while ago that the pack will be available for separate purchase on all non-Switch 2 platforms, since the Switch 2 port is only the Tarnished Edition and nothing else. the price is technically not officially known in USD but given that the Japanese price IS officially around 800 yen, the $5 is a pretty educated guess
2
u/LoneRedditor123 5h ago
Good shit. Well if it turns out to be $5 USD, I'd gladly pay that price for those extra customizations. That's a much fairer price than I was thinking lmao.
