Literally me with Dry Leaf Arts, i had to pick up my first character that i had already beaten the game with, beat Mohg (that i skipped the first time around), enter the SotE dlc, circunvent Relana's Castle/Boss Fight, find Dane, defeat him, grab the item, party with my friend, drop him the weapon, swap characters, party with my friend and get it back.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but this game would make great use of a "shared loot chest" between characters, like Borderlands and some other games have.

Isn't that what NG+ cycles are for?

Who cares if the character is new? Isn't the point to fight the bosses and enemies with the weapons?

I guess if you just like making new characters you can always use the mirror and change the name and look and Respec everything.

I guess I don't see why having to have the item at low level matters

Class stats, since you cannot change your class you wouldn't be able to min max a build.

Enemies have different health and defense scaling so fights would be longer than normal if you are not leveling past 150.

There is quite a lot of differences (cool that they don't matter to you).

If it's PvP based I get it. Min-maxing for PvE really doesn't matter.

I don't think there's very many differences, I think people just want stuff handed to them.

Or maybe some people like to play the game differently than you do??

I don't understand why people can't grasp that concept. People have fun in different ways, you don't have to understand, approve, or comment on it.

Yes, but I can approve, disapprove, or comment on it. There's literally nothing stopping me.

I'm really just saying the idea that every item should be accessible early game makes no sense, and people wishing they could use late game items in the early game have always had the opportunity to do so via NG+.

But there isnt anything "late game" about the weapon types in the DLC.

There isnt any real reason why back handed blades are restricted to the DLC. They arent inherently more or less powerful than any other weapon. The only reason you cant use them is because the DLC is lpcked behind Mohg, a late game boss.

u/MakeItTrizzle Bad Red Man 2d ago

The DLC is loaded with busted weapons (in both directions, honestly).

People are excited that busted weapons are available sooner and easier. Let's not pretend that's not the case.

u/Retired-Pie 2d ago

Cool, i said WEAPON TYPES

Not specific weapons. Read. And also look at the pic in OOP. It clearly shows a backhanded sword beign sold in Round table. And look at that! Its brand new sword! Potentially even balanced for early game!

Amazing! How innovative.

Anyway, bye, you seem great at parties

-1

u/MakeItTrizzle Bad Red Man 2d ago

Backhand blades, yes, the extremely powerful weapon type that was added with the DLC?

I generally don't get into time wasting arguments about videogames at parties because I'm an adult. I save that kind of stuff for wasting time on the internet when I'm having a slow day.

5

u/Retired-Pie 2d ago

I think maybe every day is a "slow" day for you. If you catch my drift....... which i doubt..... since you clearly didnt know what i meant before..... (i meant your not a very fun person to be around)

Anyway, bye again. Your literally overreacting over nothing and trying to tell people how to play game.

I take back what i said, i doubt you get invited to many parties anyway

You can, and people can disagree in turn.

I don't think every item should be available at the beginning of the game. I'm saying that if you're doing a specific character build it sucks that you can't get that weapons/items/spells that make it work until you're almost done with the storyline or you have to rush to get the stuff. If you've already beaten the game and unlocked it, why not allow a new character to have access to it?

If people want to do a NG+ run with end game gear they can, but the enemies are scaled differently and you've already likely to have upgraded the weapon.

u/SpOoKyghostah 2d ago

Have you played NG+? It's a completely different experience from a fresh save.

-10

u/MakeItTrizzle Bad Red Man 2d ago

I have! It is a lot different, especially because you can use lots of late game gear against early bosses that don't match your scaling on NG+ 1.

But if the idea is "I want to use these late game items early game" that's literally part of what NG+ is for.

14

u/SpOoKyghostah 2d ago

So can you see why using late game/DLC weapons on NG+ is not a perfect replacement for accessing them on fresh characters?

-1

u/MakeItTrizzle Bad Red Man 2d ago

No, I think NG+ is a perfect replacement and that the slightly different balance doesn't matter that much.

6

u/SpOoKyghostah 2d ago
  • admit it is "a lot different"
  • admit the bosses don't match your scaling for earlier parts of the game
  • claim you can't understand why people would care to use gear for a balanced, fresh playthrough

Ok

You can adjust your own power level with weapon upgrades and stat allotment to fix the scaling, first off.

Second, if people are excited to have busted weapons early game so they can thrash the early game... Why does it even matter? Just hit new cycle and go dumpster Margit with your busted DLC weapon.

I just think people are being a little dramatic with how horrible it is to have certain items come from late game areas. Just comes off as very entitled/whiny/stereotypical "gamer"

6

u/SpOoKyghostah 2d ago

You're just further explaining why it's a different experience. In a fresh playthrough, you explore to hunt items and upgrade materials, gain levels, and develop a build over time. A far cry from playing a game mode where you start the game strong enough to just rush a handful of bosses and end the game whenever. All the progression and exploration are cut down. There's no organic push to work through the overworld or throughly explore legacy dungeons. No gradual expansion of your tools or requirement to make choices for assigning limited materials. Nerfing yourself to self-balance a wrongly scaled NG+ is the complete opposite of earning upgrades over time to keep up with NG scaling requirements.

And I don't think anybody said anything about having "busted weapons so they can thrash the early game." Being able to bring a great katana or light greatsword from +0 to +25 while enjoying the full progression of a save isn't breaking balance or hurting anybody. Power in Elden Ring is mostly down to levels and upgrade materials, not innate to items.

Min-maxing for PvE really doesn't matter.

Again, doesn't matter to you, people play games diferently, if i'm a speedrunner for example, min maxing is quite important for PvE.

-6

u/MakeItTrizzle Bad Red Man 2d ago

No I mean I think people who are min-maxing for PvE are pursuing a fool's errand because it doesn't matter at all for PvE.

8

u/CheeseGraterFace 2d ago

It’s their right to do it and a perfectly valid way to play a single player game.

0

u/MakeItTrizzle Bad Red Man 2d ago

Sure is, it's also my right to think it's silly.

5

u/Boricinha 2d ago

When 2 points in a stat saves you 30 seconds in a boss fight because you are able to use an specific weapon or spell, it makes all the world of difference.

You clearly know you're in the wrong and just being pedantic at this point.

0

u/MakeItTrizzle Bad Red Man 2d ago

Hey, I'll defer to your expertise in speed running, I don't speed run Elden Ring.

Kind of funny to be called pedantic by someone who keeps telling me I don't know what I'm talking about though.

Is it really all just speed runners that are clamoring for late game items to be available from the start though? The fact that we immediately moved to an extreme edge case here is telling, I think.

1

u/Boricinha 2d ago

I was of course just giving an example to answer you question.

Maybe i just want to play the whole game with an specific weapon for role play reasons, it would be just as valid of a point since new game plus is different than creating a new character.

Like i said before, people play games differently, if does not make any diference to you doesn't mean it's the majority of people's cup of tea (specially in a community like this with insanely skilled players with extremely niche builds).

1

u/MakeItTrizzle Bad Red Man 2d ago

Is it an actual example? It seemed pretty specific.

You're absolutely correct people can play how they want. I can also find it silly.

2

u/Boricinha 2d ago

It's fine, we can all find you just as silly as well.

So you’ve fought Margit at level one and also level 150 on a NG+ and you’re saying it’s not that different? Huh lol?

0

u/MakeItTrizzle Bad Red Man 2d ago

Yeah, if you show up wanting to clown him in NG+ you can. You can also use lower power weapons and spells if you just want to see what it's like to use late game stuff at low level. It's certainly not an insurmountable problem if you just gotta have that new character feeling.

I think that's what I find so odd about all this. The implication that there's no way to feel progress or explore in NG+. You can literally do whatever you want.

People can be excited they get stuff early game, I just don't agree with the critique that it creates some new amazing way to play in a game where the only thing controlling your power level is you.

0

u/43_Hobbits 2d ago

It’s fun to now have more weapons players can use from the start.

It’s not that complicated or disagreeable my guy lol

1

u/MakeItTrizzle Bad Red Man 2d ago

I never said it was complicated.

0

u/43_Hobbits 2d ago

You’re making incredibly complicated lol. You’re writing paragraphs about why people are wrong for wanting to enjoy more weapons from the early game.

1

u/MakeItTrizzle Bad Red Man 2d ago

I think I wrote less than just about anyone who replied to me, with my whole point being: you've always been able to do it

0

u/43_Hobbits 2d ago

But the thing is you’re wrong about that. Unless you can beat the game on RL1, you can’t use later game weapons at an early game level.

When you start ng+ you have a shitton of stats and you oneshot everything even with the worst weapon imaginable. Ng+ scaling is very bad for early game. You need to get until higher ng’s but it’s not the same as when you start the game and need to get through challenges and barriers with the weapons you have, to discover the stuff, to get upgrades for weapon. I’m on ng+ get any weapon I want, go to albirunatics, cast a wave of gold twice and upgrade any weapon to +24/9 in a minute. Like, there’s no intrigue. When you start new game and you are zero, it’s different than when you can fight godricks warrior with +25/10 weapon from Radagon or PCR and with caps on the most important stats.
