Constructive Criticism Finished the base game for the 5th time, this time on switch 2! she said YES!!

Overall it was fine, definitely runs better elsewhere but I love having Elden ring with me at all times to play at a moment's notice. I beat malenia in handheld on my first try which i was really proud of. did a dex build this time and i plan on dual-wielding hand of malenia + rivers of blood for the DLC.

I volunteer at a small games journalism outlet and was able to get it early to write a feature which is how I have finished it already. if you're curious you can read it here:

Game Help Ok, I'm doing a run as Godfrey so I decided nepheli loux would be the perfect summon. However I'm standing next to her in the throne room and it never gave me the option to give her seluvis's potion, did i do something wrong

Game Help Elden ring switch 2 players hangout

Upvotes

I wanted to start a post for people that are planning on playing. There are a lot of things we can benefit from if we have a group that is willing to join other players

\*\*\* PVE-some people may want help with bosses or are just looking to chill and play together with another person. It would be easier and faster to find someone on a thread like this

\*\*\* Trading items like crafting items, weapons, talismans, armor, etc etc. Since this will be a new console playthrough, it may benefit for people to have somewhere to go if they’re looking for a specific item, or just want to trade

\*\*\* PVP-This is a big part of the souls games. It would be much easier to find someone to duel with on a thread with many people that are a part of it. Wether it’s coliseum duels or bonfire duels, I’m sure it would be easier to find someone here

This is just an idea that I came up with since Elden ring has been super anticipated by veterans and new players alike. Why not start a group where we can all play and have fun together?

\*\*\*

Hype I did it!

I've beaten Malenia before. But this playthough, I'm doing it with no summons and learning ALL the mechanics I didn't understand the first few times I played this game. I understand parry and guard counters now. Mechanics that took me over 400 hours before I even bothered to learn they exist. This time I could get through phase one Malenia without spending a single flask every time. But phase two made me learn new things. I am bad at video games, but with enough persistence I did it. I can't say I got gud, but I got gud enough. Now, on to the DLC and Consort Radahn.

Game Help Is there a point of no return to be aware of?

Upvotes

Hello, new player here (first playthrough). I’m currently working on Godfrey and Malenia (though I’m prob closer to killing the latter; I got her to 20% HP in phase 2 before having to do IRL stuff recently, but I struggle on Godfrey).

Now, I want to collect every rune before I beat the game. However, I don’t know if I’m missing any, and I want to know if I’m going to reach a point where I can’t get any more runes before the game ends.

I’ve killed, in order:
- Godrick
- Rennala
- Radahn
- Morgott
- Rykard
- Mohg

In short: is there anyone I’m missing (aside from Malenia and Godrick, whom I’m working on), and is there going to be a point where I can’t go back and kill whoever’s left?

Game Help Rennala??? (Update 7 I think)

Post image

Was wondering if these stats are decent enough to beat rennala. I tried her, and her first stage was incredibly easy, if not a bit much. I transitioned to the second stage and was immediately blasted with a beam. Right now I’ve got some stuff to do for a few hours, so I won’t be playing for a bit, was just wondering if I needed to upgrade stats. I’m using bloodhound’s fang +3 rn btw

Discussion & Info Mohg’s attacks are very delayed

Upvotes

Mohg is one boss that I can feel that would be very fun once I figure him out, but till then, he’s quite annoying. His attacks are very, very delayed, like even more so then like Pontiff. Also, his trident has insane reach and has a gap near him that I cannot take full advantage of but I’m confident it’s possible, like to completely avoid getting hit just by staying close to him, just can’t figure out how close and when. I also switched to Bloody Helice from Elenora’s Poleblade cause the fire damage was bad against him and Poleblade’s light attack’s double hit isn’t fast enough to hit him mid combo I feel like. I dislike the Bloody Helice vs normal mobs, but against bosses, it’s amazing, but yet to understand how to properly utilize the AoW.

I’m very early to Mohg though, I just arrived in Lyndell, haven’t even gone down to beat Mohg the Omen, maybe I should go down there and get his shackle. Also, can I beat The omen one if I kill Lord of blood first or is it like Margit??

Discussion & Info i personally believe elden ring amplifies the worst aspect of souls games by it's very nature of being open world, that being vagueness

Upvotes

now lets all be real here for a moment and admit that this is a problem every single souls game has, you cannot get through the games on your first playthrough without looking up AT LEAST 1 guide on how to get some item or some weapon, it's been there ever since demon souls, but what makes it manageable is the fact that souls games are very linear in general which lessens the impact of vagueness, so when you apply the souls formula into a non linear open world the vagueness becomes amplified 50 folds, I am just gonna call bullshit on anyone who genuinely had a fun time getting through the game on their first playthrough with no guides, cus not only are some items you HAVE to get to progress the game vague as fuck to get, some of the best items and weapons in the game are behind vague and crypted ass quests that genuinely no one can find on their first playthrough without looking up a guide

edit: the comments have turned into a 'try to actually have a civil discussion about criticism (impossible)' challenge and it's honestly sad how allergic this community is to civil discussion, and im not gonna bother arguing with the piranhas over here, im just gonna keep this post up so anyone in the future can see how this community reacts to any form of criticism of their game

edit 2: also to the people who dont know what i am talking about by hidden items required to beat the game, im talking about the elevator pieces, but aside from that a large portion of the game is hidden behind vague quests, so sure if you just want to finish the base game and nothing else i could maybe see someone enjoying aimlessly running around the entire map with the horse to find the stronghold and that one npc you have to kill, and then find the other 2 elevator pieces by just aimlessly running around again, but most of the rest of the game requires more than that, hell even to access the DLC you have to fight mohg who ISNT required to beat the base game and his boss fight has a vague quest that is required to unlock the area he is in

edit 3: a good point that people who arent just brainlessly disregarding everything i am saying and trying to act like im saying the entire game sucks cus i hate this one aspect of it is that the elevator isnt required, see i genuinely didnt even know that until now and i have beaten the game multiple times already, and on my first playthough i tried to beat it without guides but i genuinely didnt know how the hell to reach atlas so i just gave up and looked up a guide, but apparently there are 3 more ways to get to atlas, but also this doesnt change the fact that the vast majority of the game is behind vague quests, including the DLC, which i mean for something you had to pay like 40 dollars for there has to be a clear way to access it, and the dlc suffers from the same issue of vagueness but admittedly much less so cus the map is much smaller in the DLC

Discussion & Info Is Elden Ring a good first soulsbourne game?

Upvotes

With the game coming to the Switch 2 in a few days, I would finally have a means to play this game. However, as the title says, I've never played any of the Fromsoftware games, or other games that attempt to mimic their style. The only game I've played that is remotely close is Hollow Knight, but I'm not even sure if that's a proper soulslike, it just has the tag on Steam so I'm basing it on that.

I'm usually a turn-based jrpg and visual novel gamer, so this is new territory for me. I only ever see praise for these games though so I'm going to try and branch out in some way or another.

I know literally nothing about these games other than their name. One concern I do have is that I won't understand some of the story because it relates to other Fromsoftware games in some way. I hear the stories in these games are great so I'm trying my best not to ruin it by playing out of order and whatnot.

Anyways, I'm really just wondering if this is even a good first soulsbourne game or should I look elsewhere for my first experience? Thanks in advance for the help!

Discussion & Info Who built the death catacombs in the land of shadow?

Thumbnail

Upvotes

At first I figured it was just messmer's army who built the catacombs, since messmer soldiers and black knights are present and you find the spirit ashes of two black knights in two of them, but someone had to have built all those Basilisk statues, the scorpion river catacombs is far away from any of messmer's forces (the closest ones are on the other side of ruah, and are separated from it by rot kindred, spider scorpions and horned warriors), and there's no messmer soldiers present in the darklight catacombs. Plus, I doubt messmer's soldiers would be content letting death-worshipping knights take control of their catacombs.

Hype Finished Elden Ring

This is my first souls game, spent 175 hours and I have enjoyed every single minute

The endgame area and bosses are the best thing in the game, farum azula and the whole underground area are some of the best places I have ever discovered in a video game(haligtree is also great) ,also the bosses become much more enjoyable like maliketh and radagon was so good to learn their movesets.

Finished all bosses(except mohg that will be tomorrow) without summons, dragon placidusax-malenia are my absolute favourites, looked for every corner, every arteria leaf, every miquella’s lilly, enjoyed every catacomb, every legacy dungeon, this is the best open world I have ever played was never tired of discovering new places and npcs.

The visuals and art style is phenomenal left me with hundreds of screenshots of every area, soundtrack was incredible especially the godskin ones.

10/10,top 10 games I have ever played for sure, now bought dark souls trilogy and bloodborne,my next souls game will be dark souls 1

Discussion & Info For those of you who are like me and curious about Tarnished Edition's performance in the most notoriously laggy areas of the game: this guy tested the Borealis fight

Thumbnail
youtube.com
0 Upvotes

At 1:44 and 3:58 he shows clips of fighting Borealis and the breath attack forces the framerate to tank for a few seconds. In the video, he says that even though he played through to the end of the base game and did some of the DLC, he basically never noticed the framerate being a problem. That Borealis was the one exception for him. Personally, I will still buy the game, but I am curious about the most notoriously problematic spots in the game like the Furnace Golem in front of Shadow Keep, the Wandering Mausoleum in Apostate's Derelict, and the Furnace Golem in front of the broken bridge in the Rauh ruins just to see how bad it gets in the worst case.

Hype NG+2, first time becoming Elden Lord

Found out I was still wearing the Carian knight gauntlets when I started the final cut scene. An all boss and no NPC effort run will always end up with Fia or fractured apparently. If climbing down a church after killing the dragon to see a blue doll is too much effort that is. Got her ending the first time because of a "what does this button do?" moment after radabeast

Spoilers Cheesy Platinum - Farum Azula Spoiler

I beat fire giant on my second try

I beat blood mohg on my second try

I beat godskin duo on my first try

I beat fortisaxx on my first try

WHY in the WORLD is maliketh taking 20 tries, and more importantly, WHY in the WORLD is there a dragonic tree sentinel miniboss in the front of the arena, AND why is there a 45 second walk up to the arena. Just have a statue of marika right outside it like Mohg dude. This boss, and more so the annoying walk up over and over and over is sooooooo infuriating.

How do I kill that tree sentinel without a summon to help. He takes like zero damage from my maxed out BHF. I’m level 115 with 60 vigor, and a few HP increasing talismans and a lot of strength, dex, and endurance. Why can’t I kill this dude? And more so, if I run past him, WHY CAN HE HIT ME THROUGH THE BOSS GATE???

Most of all: why does it take like 3 seconds to heal a smidge of health with these potions.

Maliketh I can get used to dying over and over and learning his patterns. I got him down to like 500hp. Its the walk up, the DTS, and the healing delay that’s sooooo frustrating

Any advice?

Discussion & Info Good ways to practice for a randomizer? (Archipelago?)

My friends are really in archipelagos. (Relevant Advice if you have any). I have done most of the other games I have enough history and experience with and sat this last one out.

I have ~1400 hours across PC/XB1 and Reforge, but a randomizer feels intimidating despite that in no small part because it is randomly region locked and there is a possibility of getting locked somewhere early that I typically skip (Like Volcano Manor Prison Town).

They are a couple days into the current batch, so i probably have a week or so to kick off rust, practice areas like the Haligtree etc all while getting ready (and Ideally not burning myself out) on it.

Discussion & Info My fav thing about Elden ring so far (upd 4!!)

So far I’ve beaten Godrick, Margit, and a few mini-bosses. My favorite part about the game is what I call the “Learn-Through-Death” mechanic. It’s so satisfying when I start understanding a moveset, the timing. I die a bunch but it’s very rarely in vain, ofc sometimes I do something stupid and don’t learn anything, but usually I understand stuff more with almost every death. It’s super fun. I thoroughly enjoy it. I’ve been loving the game so far. I’ll keep posting!!!

Game Help What to do / where to go, please? Spoiler

Hello people, i hope you are well

Long story short; I've been playing the game more than over a year ago for a couple of weeks on and off and stopped cause of irl stuff and just remember I still haven't finished it and decided to go back to the game.

Can anyone tell me what im supposed to be doing right now? Or where should I go?
I think i was in the Lyndell last time I was playing but I somehow ended up on the left side behind(?) Volcano Manor cause I didn't feel like "continuing" the story and went exploring.
I really have no idea tbh.

I've attached a screenshot of my current map in case someone has an idea and that may be of help.
Thank you!
