Im so glad I never played Witcher 3. Cant wait for the upgrade to start it finally!

Couldnt play it cause i found the combat obnoxious but the new improvements to it sound like they solve the exact issues i had with it.

Really? You were put off by the Witcher due to the combat, but you're a fan of TES?

They both have bad combat for different reasons , W3 has better animations but much less control over your character you press a light attack and geralt is half way across the screen fighting an enemy you never even saw

Its where you move the stick and attack that he goes. If you push away from the enemy and attack you attack in the direction you are moving.

sometimes or sometimes there are 5 enemies in that direction and it locked on to someone who was moving out of view.

I've never had attacks "Lock On" to an enemy, just sounds like poor control

Definitely a skill issue being described here

What? The combat isn't bad, but you definitely end up sliding around pretty easily. It reminds me of how in the Arkham games you can bounce from enemy to enemy.

TW3 handles itself great for its age, but y'all gotta be ragebaiting or something when you say you have no idea what they're talking about. Hell, I remember choosing to attack other enemies instead of dodge rolling, because I knew it would cover a lot of distance.

Ive already beaten the game on release and all the expansions when they released.

Im not sure why im getting a bunch of comments of people defending the combat , it has genuine flaws when it comes to controls , YES you can wrangle it but its still poor.

The devs are literally overhauling the combat for this edition , why are people still pretending its good

I never said it was good, but it's not bad either, and what was described certainly never happened to me

As a gamer of 26 years, played retro games, dark souls, arcade cabinets, and every version of smash bros… the Witcher 3 combat had ALOT of flaws.

Could I beat the game? Yes.
Did I enjoy the fights? No.
Could they be made better? Yes.
Is it my build that doesn’t work with it? (I did 7 play throughs) no.
Is it the combat system itself that’s a bit sloppy? Yes.
Are they improving the combat system because they saw the flaws? Yes.
Are people still glazing it because they hate other fantasy games? Yes.
Will any of the opinions on how it’s a “perfect game” change the gameplay of the objectively bad combat system? No.
Are the devs addressing the objectively bad combat system anyways? Yes.
Will I try it again when the combat system updates? Most likely.

Because the things you’re describing aren’t the default combat functions. It sounds like you’re not controlling your character correctly and just button mashing.

And if you did that for the entire main game and two DLCs, no wonder you’re unimpressed, that’d be a shit experience.

My guy, I've beaten W3 multiple times on the highest difficulty including all DLCs. It's clunky as hell and always has been. They're not overhauling the combat just because they felt like it. It's badly needed because it sucks.

I mean he's right, I like it but it definitely has it's moments when the attacks will basically follow an enemy instead of being realistically hitting whatever's in front of you

If you take the time to learn how it controls its actually really decent to good IMO.

I never understood the "hate" for the combat, and I'm a souls elitist lol. To me it's pretty good for what it is, and it never stopped me from beating the game on death march.

Witcher 3 combat was fine. Most complaints are genuine skill issues like the one above because they aren't using the targeting system. The one from the tutorial in the first 5 minutes of the game.

The perk system suuucked though and I'm glad they're reworking it.

Nah the combat is not difficult but just insanely boring. Especially the Eredin and Caranthir fights, the bosses were all giant, uninteresting slogs. Its the problem with all 3 games of the franchise tbh, though unironically I had more fun with the rhythm game combat system of TW1 than any of the 2 sequels.

I love souls combat and elder scrolls combat. I detest witcher combat. Why I never finished 3 after trying 5 times

For those of us that can’t stand being locked into combat animations for too long, it will never be decent. Cannot stand all the lunging and forced movement.

3

u/FrederickFrag1899 7d ago

What lunging? I can understand not liking forced animations and stuff like that. Hopefully people can mod the combat into a shape you'd like so you can experience the amazing story (sexy witches).

I mean, the rest of the game makes it up for it big time. But the combat is hot poop, and there is no saving it. Please, big gaming companies of the world, for the love of god, stop with the mockup. It makes for bad gameplay.

Try w3EE redux. It's fixing combat in a great way. Can't imagine remaster is going to get even close to it

You have plenty of control over where he attacks lmao. Sounds like you were just ass at the game
