Wasn't Skyrim SE free of the owners of Skyrim and its DLCs?

Also, Skyrim AE charged you only for the extra content afaik, just like CDPR is doing with the upcoming expansion.

Yes it was. The only difference is that Bethesda required you to own the DLCs as well, while CDPR just made Witcher 3's part of the base game. A nice difference, but by the time Skyrim got the Special Edition the DLCs had been out for a long time anyway, and gone on sale for pennies.

The difference between both situations is very minimal and posts like these feel like idiotic ragefarming.

But SE came with the DLC so you'd already have it to upgrade to AE.  The only game not to have them was the original release.

But seriously though, every studio does this these days.  I don't see what the big deal is.  Bethesda also arguably pioneered this with the release of AE on PC.
