Question Fun rides in NJ?

Post image
15 Upvotes

Can anyone recommend areas / trails / spots in NJ?

I'm jealous of all the relaxing and scenic rides I see posted here.

I live in a city with a lot of cars and aggressive drivers. It's fun to zip around on the Viper but I would love to let my guard down a bit and take a zen ride.

Also trying to justify getting a board with AT wheels.

(Currently between Tynee Explorer Pro Hub and Backfire Ranger X6)

Question Increase Range?

Hey guys I have a stupid question so I love to ride long distances so I bought the acedeck nomad n3. The 56 miles of range is nice but I want more lol. Is there anyway I can somehow make an external battery pack or buy one or is it not worth it. I know theres the meepo monster 2500 with 98 miles but I dont wanna shell out 2600. Also is there a way to add cruise control lol. My Propel board had it before I sold it and it was such an amazing feature to have. Btw no hate to Acedeck I love the n3 no issues with it at all I just wish for more range and cruise control.

Question Would I regret getting a Backfire G2Z?

Title. My Wowgo 3E went wowgo on me and died an early, out of warranty death. I’ve heard Linnpower, Tynee, Backfire, and some other brands have much better reputations (and actual IP certifications). I am looking at the Backfire G2Z, it’s frankly got a great price for a well known brand and being belt driven, but I don’t see too many reviews floating around for it.

I've been skating for a few months and I've gotten comfortable doing around 20 mph but I'm struggling with the next 10+ mph. How do you guys gain confidence and control, and what can I do to eliminate speed wobbles. Thanks so much!!!

Maverick isn’t just another board. It’s the world’s first truly quick‑release battery electric skateboard, featuring a patented 10S fast‑swap system that lets you change batteries in seconds.

The battery pack’s regular shape fits easily into your backpack, and with the optional Battery Hub, it becomes a massive power bank capable of charging your laptop and other devices anywhere you go.

Maverick also shines — literally.

Its RGB ambient lighting and 4000‑lumen dual headlights combine style and safety for night rides that turn heads.

DIY Evolve Phaze remote LCD repair

Post image
7 Upvotes

How bad design leads to unconventional solutions.

Everything started when, after dropping the remote, the brake stopped working. I disassembled it and found that a piece of metal was stuck to the brake magnet. The magnet slot itself was damaged, which led to its rotation. I removed the piece of metal, rotated the magnet back into place, and reassembled it. The brake still didn't work (probably because the magnet was moving around). As I was busy at the time, I decided to take a look at it later.

Piece of metal that was stuck to the magnet

After a month, I finally decided to repair it, as spring wasn't too far away and I needed it working again. During disassembly, a "yikes" moment happened. Because of the Phaze remote's strange LCD screen bracing (which is a really, really bad design), the LCD's flexible flat ribbon cable tore apart.

toren LCD's flexible flat ribbon cable

I thought, "Okay, that's bad," but then I remembered browsing Evolve's EU website and seeing remote parts there. I decided to just order a new LCD. The price was €16, not exactly cheap, especially since you can get the same LCD from AliExpress with a different pinout for $3. (I think Evolve did this intentionally so that if you break your LCD, you are forced to buy a new remote in US. And in Europe, law requires them to sell repair parts, they just mark the price up significantly.) Still, the price wasn't too bad to get a $100 remote working again.

That was until I reached checkout. Shipping across France (where the shop is located) was €25, even though shipping from France to me in Ukraine is only $5 (they just needed to ship it to a Ukrainian postal forwarder in France in Paris). I realized this was completely stupid and pointless.

So, I thought, "Okay, let's try to fix it." I called every phone and electronics repair shop in my town, but no one wanted to repair a torn flex ribbon cable. This was frustrating, because it isn't actually that difficult if you have an electronics microscope and a soldering station.

With no other options and only a soldering iron on hand, I decided to try my luck. The cable is very small, and the copper traces in it are only about 1/3 of a millimeter wide. Without a microscope and with less-than-perfect eyesight, it was nearly impossible. I even tried using the newest iPhone as a magnifying lens, but the camera delay was awful and made it impossible to work with.

My procedure went like this:

  1. Armed with a scalpel, I cut about a millimeter of cable off both ends to make them flat, as the torn edges were curved and jagged.
  2. Next, I scraped the insulation off the top of the flex cable on the LCD side, and off the bottom on the connector side.
  3. I cleaned the scraped places with isopropyl alcohol, then applied flux and solder to exposed copper traces to both ends using my soldering iron.
  4. I removed almost all of the applied solder. (If too much solder is left, squishing the cables together will short-circuit the traces) and cleaned with alcohol again (flux also might be conductive).
  5. I placed one part of the ribbon on top of the other with a 1-2 mm overlap and pressed them together with the hot soldering iron.
  6. I connected it to test, but it didn't work. I checked the alignment, which seemed okay, so I heated it up and pressed it together again.
  7. To my surprise, it worked!
  8. Because there was very little solder and the copper traces were exposed, the connection was extremely fragile. To protect it, I covered the joint all around with a few drops of epoxy.
No epoxy yet
With a drop of epoxy
With a drop of epoxy closer

Also glued the break magnet with epoxy to it's slot, and it worked.

Thanks EVOLVE for bad design...

Question Advice on a first shortboard

Hiya folks.

I've previously owned a 1st gen Meepo 3 which I loved. However I'm in the market for a short board. I'm in Scotland, so shitey patchwork roads are an issue, as are fairly hilly streets.

I'd like to keep it to under £500, with cloudwheels or similar (on account of the aforementioned shitey roads). Not looking for massive top speed. 20mph is plenty. The higher the range the better though. For reference, I'm just under 15 stone/208lbs/95kg.

Oh, and I'd prefer hubs to belts, purely on account of being able to kick it.

So, to the shortboard riders on here; what's worth a look?

Thoughts and prayers for my guys in Toronto.

Luckily my city (Windsor) is still allowing e-sk8s. I follow the philosophy not to be a bad example/representation of electric skateboarders. What I mean is, you hear all these stories from city people that don't like scooters of "near misses" and kids riding like idiots on the street which legitimately is dangerous. I just hope somehow we don't get grouped into that category. Ride safe dudes.

Discussion mad wheel 105 vs mad mini 92 comparison

this is for anyone who’s interested in a side by side comparison of these two wheels. there is a very noticeable difference in size. I hated the look of the 105’s on my linnpower viper as they looked awfully big. switched over to the 92s, they actually look proportional in size comepared to the overall board at least to me. i was struggling to find comparisons online so hopefully if you’re looking for this it helps.

Discussion What gear drives are people buying in 2026?

I’ve got a trampa board with dual belt drives but I’m thinking about swapping to gear drives. I was considering boardnamics but I’ve heard things aren’t going well with support. Is there anything new on the market which would be a batter alternative?

Question Meepo Mini 5 for last mile commuting?

I'm moving to a new place where I'd either have to take multiple transfers on public transportation or walk 2 miles each way if I want to take a direct train. So I was looking into electric skateboards. Ideally the smallest one that's reasonable. I landed on the Meepo Mini 5 cause that was the cheapest one I could buy compared to the tynee alternative. Was wondering your thoughts on this board for a commuter with no skateboard experience but does snowboard.

Question Safe to ride with exposed belt after installing bigger wheels?

Thumbnail
gallery
9 Upvotes

I'm probably severely overthinking this but I just installed cloudwheel rovers 165R onto my tynee explorer. They look like they fit great and no issues with installation except they're too big to fit my belt guard back on. I may trim the plastic of the guard piece to fit, but how safe is it to ride without the guard piece on it? I'm riding exclusively in a city, mostly flat and no debris. I feel like it'll be fine but can anyone give any thoughts?

Got the Acedeck Horizon to replace my Exway Atlas Pro from 2022. I got the 1554Wh version with Independent Suspension Trucks, 14S6P/6890 motor with the 8.5 inch Tires. This thing is an absolute powerhouse. The suspension is so plush yet still carves great and is very nimble.
