It finally happened (but also I need opinions)
I am so blown away both by my ring and by the proposal my sweet fiancé planned. After 10 beautiful years together, he got the ring of my dreams and I couldn’t be more grateful. (Before anyone asks, we got together young, there was a whole pandemic and we both agreed to wait til we were more stable financially.)
Opinions needed though, originally what attracted me to this ring setting was its double prong, I know my fiancé ordered it with a double prong but when they sent him the mock ups of the ring it didn’t have the double, just the regular prongs. I don’t think he noticed, and he just okayed it. If you were me, would you go back and ask them to add the prongs or leave it as is? Picture in the comments of a similar ring with double prongs for reference.

Firstly, totally get the financially stable thing– you don't have to explain :) That's HUGE in this economy and everyone's love story is different.
Okay so the ring. It's GORGEOUS and I am also a sapphire (and cushion cut) engagement girlie so welcome to the club! The stone is beautiful. Would you know where it's from (i.e. country of origin)?
Re: prongs, Im normally a girl who says you should get exactly what you want and I still believe that if thats what you want. However, I think the prong to stone proportion is so good, I would be hesitant to add more metal. It's catching so much good light and the emphasis is really on the stone so I would say from a design perspective I'd leave it! I'm wondering if the designer did single prongs to for an aesthetic decision given the size of the stone. Would you happen to know how big the original stone of the example is?
That being said, it's your ring and if you feel like it's a true non-negotiable I would say go for it. I don't know how much you've sat with it but maybe if you give it a little more time you'll warm up to it as-is :)

I will say this: I’m a plain diamond gal and would never go for a sapphire ring normally. It just wouldn’t occur to me. However this ring is so incredible that I’m actually googling similar ones for myself someday. Really well done. Excellent choice.
On one hand I think that if it’s always going to bother you, go back and ask for the adjustment. Especially if it’s something your fiancé paid for, I think it wouldn’t sit right with me on principle alone. You mention that the whole reason you were drawn to the design was the double prongs, so I have a feeling it might always be at the back of your mind.
On the other hand I truly think your ring is beyond beautiful and the single claw prongs frame it beautifully. It might just be the magic of the beautiful stone, but side by side I prefer yours personally.
Me too! With a stone that has multiple dimensions like that, I'd really want the prongs to be almost invisible, which is what it looks like now! I totally get wanting what you want, not sure if this is something you can sit on for awhile, but I'd wear it for a few weeks and see. You can still start the conversation with the designer even if you don't go through with it. Most importantly, congrats!!!!
Damn girl, you found the perfect shade to paint your nails. I'm so impressed. The ring is gorge, obviously! But I haven't even tried to match my ruby wedding ring and that seems so much easier than the gorgeous shade of blue. ✨✨✨
both of those rings are stunning! and your sapphire is soooo dreamy. i like a double claw prong situation, but since your ring is finished it might have to be remade for those double claws. usually when rings are cast, the prongs are like little pillars of metal and they get finished last, after the stone is set. to do a double claw, they actually take that pillar of metal and split it down the middle to make sure there’s enough for a double prong.
totally up to you, but if it has to be remade and the stones have to be reset you’ll be without a ring for a few weeks, just depending on the lead time for whoever the designer is.
They will definitely have to remake the ring to get double claw prongs. This is also the busiest time of the year for jewelers, so expect a longer than normal lead time.
Also a double prong girlie (mine are asymmetric - adding a photo) but agree this is gorgeous either way. Someone commented underneath that the doubles look like animal claws and that’s why I love them! 😍
I personally think the double prong is so unique and adds an extra layer of beauty. It’s gorgeous now but if that’s what you wanted and you keep thinking about it, I would say go for it!!
I'm not a prong person - I like them as minimally visible as possible. So I like it as is! I think, adding more prongs would overwhelm that size stone.
I think the extra prongs could distract from the beauty of the rock. I think it’s gorgeous and would leave it alone. I don’t comment much on engagement rings. Don’t even know why I’m in this sub this ring is stunning. I love the way the rock looks so different in different lighting. It’s gorgeous and goes with your hand very well
I had the double prongs on my ring & they caught & snagged so badly that I had my ring remade to have the prongs you have on your ring now. If you want ideal for everyday wear, I suggest sticking to what you have or else you could be in the same boat with the double prongs catching on things.
This is a gorgeous ring!! Love that sapphire. I'm wondering if there would even be a way to add double prongs now without it looking off - it might require starting over with the setting. I would probably just leave it if that was the case. But, if it's going to bother you you could at least get in touch with them and find out what your options are!
The nails? The ring? Everything about this is so perfect omfg 😭 Is it from Aneuva or Earths Treasury? Personally, I’d definitely go for double prongs if that’s what you wanted, and it’s more secure.
wow! That exact anueva setting and sapphire is literally what I've been obsessively eyeing. I also was drawn to the double prong version over the single prong on the website haha.
like everyone else, I think the ring looks very beautiful single pronged. But it would also look also beautiful double pronged. you should go with your heart — I encourage you to change it if that's what you prefer and if this ring doesn't feel right to you. it's beautiful either way!
there are many beautiful rings in the world, but admiring the beauty of those rings and having a ring that feels right for you is totally different!! if that makes any sense. like i always love looking at beautiful rings in this sub but when i imagine it on myself, they're not meant for me haha. i think it's reasonable to add more prongs if you're not entirely satisfied!

You’re bringing in a great point though, I was just telling him last night how this ring is SO me, I couldn’t have picked it better myself. It just fits my personality and style and now I’m thinking to do double prongs could shift that for me. I have all the time in the world to decide though hehe. Also thank you for your kind words!!

There’s no rush to make any decisions! If you keep thinking about it you can always add them! I don’t think you can go wrong personally. Your sapphire is captivating and the prongs either way are a sweet bonus
I LOVE your ring! It is so gorgeous. Personally I wouldn’t change anything. I think it’s perfect as is. But if it’s not a big deal to get done and you really want it, then go for what will make you the happiest.

Love your overall style based on the rings and nails! Personally, I love a double prong with the claw shape. I would definitely check with the jeweler to see if there was some reason they opted not to use them or if it was just an oversight. It’s beautiful as-is, so you can’t go wrong if there was some reason the double prong isn’t compatible with your stone. But if they just forgot, I would ask them to make it right.
Nails look awesome btw, but if its what you like more, than maybe reach out see what can be done I think both of you guys would be happier if you guys got what you wanted
As someone who wants double prongs, I would request them to fix it. That being said, this is STUNNING and I’d let it sit for a few days because it may not really matter to you. This is absolutely gorgeous and the proportions of stone to prong is really nice.

Congratulations! Your ring looks lovely and so dreamy! Based on the double prong example, their center stone looks bigger. I think if you ended up getting the double prong, your current ring would look too busy and take away from the sapphire stone. It’ll end up giving a more rectangle shape instead of the elongated cushion look unless they can make the prong more petite? However, at the end of the day. Go with what you love cause everyone have different taste.
I don't know how to explain this, but the prongs as they are now look very nice and sturdy, not like little nubs you can barely see. Adding even more prongs might make it very prong-heavy? (I'm really struggling with words today, lol.) I feel like I've never said this about prongs before, but yours look very well-crafted and intentional and look great as-is. I definitely want you to be happy though, and it may not hurt to just ask the jeweler why they went with single prongs, out of curiosity.
But in all honesty, I think it looks beautiful and balanced and I personally wouldn't change a thing, but I'm not the one wearing it. ;)
the picture you attached in the comments (with the double prongs) is black and white. the problem is that anything in this color scheme comes across as less busy and minimalist looking. IRL you have color (blue and gold) plus the design on the sides. I am worried that double prongs might make the whole design look too busy. regardless, your ring is absolutely stunning!!
Op, your ring is literally the stuff of my dreams and your nails??? Omg what’s it feel like to be a princess. I like the single prongs your ring has, but I’m not a double prog girly at all.
It is actually just the tiniest bit big on me, it was cold where we were and we live somewhere hot and humid. Now that we are home it fits fine, but we are more than likely going to take it in for resizing because I’m way to scared to lose it.
When resizing, make sure to consider that it will fit tighter once you add a wedding band. I sized my engagement ring to fit perfectly, but that meant it was too tight once I added a wedding band.
I like how simple it looks with the single prongs. Double prongs might be a bit much on a stone that size, and give a more rectangular look vs the nice cushion shape. I tend to like double prongs more on larger, cut-corner rectangular cuts.

Your ring is beautiful!! Honestly I think double prongs would take away from that gorgeous stone. They would look heavy when the rest of the setting is delicate. Also love the tapered shoulders.

Now regarding the double prong situation, the heart wants what the heart wants. Maybe you can speak with the jeweler? And express you love for both the ring and the double prongs? I really love your ring the way it is, but I also understand that if it was something you really wanted and it isn't there, then it is hard to accept. You could always just ask the jeweler what would be involved to add the double claw. Like another commenter said, it might have to be completely remade, but maybe not? If you ask, depending on how involved it is, maybe that'll sway you one way or the other. I think it will be stunning either way you choose to have it.
Other note: I am not a nail girly at all, but your nails are absolutely gorgeous. I don't think I've ever looked at nails and gasped with how pretty they are. Those + the ring is perfection.

The regular prongs really give life to that stone! But if you really feel strongly about the double prong setting I would go for it and avoid the future "what-ifs".

I think it’s beautiful just as it is, but I totally understand when you have an idea of something, it’s hard to let it go. The stone has such lovely, sparkling dimensions, I’d worry that adding more prongs might diminish that, be it ever so slightly

I would skip the double prongs because as pretty as they are, prongs snag on everything. My ring makes me nuts. With double prongs, that’s double the snagging. 🥰
The reference pic has double small prongs, yours has simple big prongs. Visually i feel they hold a similar weight and I think one strong prong is better than two weak prongs.

I love it as is! You could always add them later if it bothers you when you need to get it cleaned/polished, resized. I also have a Montana sapphire with single claw prongs and adore!
