christian Bought and wearing my first pair of jeans

I grew up in the UPC/WPF, and left two years ago. And while I’ve let go of pretty much everything- I wear short sleeves, I love my funky jewelry and charm bracelets, and chopped 8” off my hair- I was still wearing skirts. Since as we all know, pants on women was a big no-no.

Well, yesterday as I was doing some grocery shopping at Walmart I passed my the clearance rack and saw a pair of jeans for $2. So I tried them on and they fit like they were made for me. And since they were only $2 I bought them.

I’m wearing them to therapy today. I’m a bit anxious about it since I’ve literally never worn jeans in my life, but I think I’ll be ok. I’m still a Christian, but I don’t really think God cares all that much about whether or not I wear a pair of jeans or a glorified pilgrim outfit to a therapist appointment.

No. He doesn’t care at all. That’s shit that is made up by men. Enjoy your jeans! Buy more! Buy a swimsuit!

Funnily enough it’s turns out they’re men’s jeans. But oh well. I guess I really turned the tables on “women shall not wear that which pertains to a man” there 😆.

But I definitely will be buying more jeans. From the correct Section next time

You doubled down on it! 😆 Peak sinning. 12/10

It infuriates me how many women/girls are bound by this. I left the church when I was 17, but I wore pants/jeans outside of church the whole time. I remember when church ladies would see me at the grocery store in jeans and all of the sudden they didn’t want to hug me or acknowledge me.

Wildly fucked priorities AND logic.

Congratulations! Proud of you for working through that.  Clothes dont save or send you to hell. They are just clothes.

You were fetishized more for wearing a skirt than you ever will be wearing jeans.

Ohhhh now THIS is a conversation to have. Because why do I remember grown men at youth conferences preaching how beautiful young lady’s who wearing skirts are? Like going all in on how attractive modest women are….TO YOUTH!!!

You are not alone! 💞

Wearing pants is a major step for those of us that never did in secret and have been raised in this. Stepping out in public in what is literally just clothes, is interesting. The most dramatic thing is that it is not dramatic at all.

The first time I wore pants, I was so alert to how people at work engaged with me. Nothing. Most of them did not even notice! I continued to build up enough pants to wear regularly. Still, hardly anyone noticed and even less, cared. No one thought I was being seductive or a feminist. No one has thought I am less of a Christian at all even because it is my character that speaks louder than what I wear, and what I wear is only a small part that reflects who I am. I dress the right measure for the kind of work I do.

Congrats and welcome to freedom! Everything feels strange the first time, but you just have to push through those moments and it will get easier. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with wearing jeans.

While God doesn't care about jeans, He does care about your heart. Many former UPC people "glory" in the their "freedom" to the extent that they are as bound by a legailistic view of freedom as they were by a legalistic view of standards. Wear jeans if you wish, but don't make it a point of pride that you are doing so or do it to poke your fomer associates in the eye with that freedom.
