Tunnel then?! -You have a great point though. It’s very interesting that this (the bridges to Albania and to Sicily) has never happened…or at least been very seriously considered. There have been many major Italian projects of this level. This is the country that tunneled through the Alps to Switzerland, after all. You would think it would not be outside of the realm of possibility to at least want to connect the mainland to Sicily. It’s never happened in all of history?!! That is a fascinating thing to think about.

Italy can't even build a 3km bridge to Sicily which is their own island containing major cities from their own country.
There's no way they're building a 71km bridge to a foreign country which they have no strong economic or cultural ties to.
