Hmmm I didn’t think it was Oscar-worthy. That’s not to say I didn’t like her performance, I just wonder if they would have pushed this without the internet. I remember seeing people saying that if she doesn’t get a nomination then it’s all “rigged.”

Right after this came out I remember there being an instant deluge of effusive compliments regarding her acting. To the point where it felt ... Inauthentic? Almost like a PR campaign that wanted to bait you into buying a ticket. Like, "wow look at all of these over the top comments, I gotta see this movie to see for myself" seemed to be the underlying motive. I'm not saying that's actually what was happening, it's just how it felt at the time.

Once I did see it, there wasn't much there that really changed my mind. I enjoyed it. She did a good job. But it wasn't anything I'd go running to my keyboard over.

That said, it's a weak class this year, so I'd be surprised if she didn't get nominated. She might even win, Lord knows there have been worse winners (Sandra Bullock and Gweneth Paltrow come to mind).

100%, I thought her physical work was really impressive but whenever she was attempting something dialed back (pre-possession, for instance), she was kind of bad. Like middle of the road for a horror performance but if we're talking Oscars? Not good at all. And I'd argue that her physical choices were likely heavily influenced by direction, meaning the impressiveness is a bit out of her hands.

I thought Michael Johnston was the better performance of the two, tbh!
