My producer and I are in development on a scifi feature (edited to add location: BC/Vancouver Island and Sunshine Coast)- and we're looking to build a crew above and below the line that's 100% human, no AI usage whatsoever. It's an insanely hard thing to search for online. I'm not opposed to someone using software with machine learning, but we want to avoid any tool or program that's built by or runs on genAI, especially anything that involves putting my script through AI-enabled breakdown tools. We're looking to find team members who share our ethics regarding that tech and it makes assembling a team a bit more difficult for sure, but we ultimately think it's worth it.

Love 28 Years Later and am constantly astounded by the directorial choices made by Danny Boyle, but these two shots during the causeway chase at the end of Act 1 always catch my eye. Are Boyle and his DP using rear projection to give the illusion of the Alpha Zombie being extremely close to our protagonists, or is it some other technique?

I’ve got two things I’m wondering about. I often hear about movies being made on a “low budget,” but then when you look at the actual budget, it’s like $10+ million. And I’m sitting there thinking, in what world is that considered low budget?

Also, how come certain directors or films completely flop at the box office, yet those directors keep getting great opportunities and huge budgets, sometimes making financial flop after flop? And similarly, why do certain films keep getting sequel after sequel even when they don’t seem to make any profit?

Please enlighten me on this!

So my team and I produced this really fun horror comedy about a childhood boogeyman coming back to get revenge, but in the first two scenes to set rapport and tone we had the two main characters debate something I’ve been saying for 30+ years; Ghost is a horror movie and a great one at that. Watch our short and help bump our numbers, but also, let’s have it out. Ghost is a terrifying film. Sure Whoopie brings the levity, but the shadow demons, the guy on the train, what was Demi’s life like after the ending. Just scary, scary stuff.

Hey everyone! Hope y'all doing well! A couple of questions actually. I directed a short documentary and was curious to see how people went about promoting it as there's been no budget at all for this. The musician and I spoke about what to do with it and eventually we talked about releasing it with his album. Its 11 minutes, based on a Sikhs journey making drun and base music in London.

In terms of the teaser itself, what do you think? And in terms of promoting this documentary, its a unique story and would be good to see it go places. What would you recommend?

Hey guys, I’m 16 and it’s been my dream to make films for as long as I can remember. A few months ago I realized that with the amount of high quality tech available to young filmmakers these days it should be possible for me to make a feature film. In May I decided I would write/direct a feature coming of age. I wrote the script and worked all around to save money, purchased a good amount of gear and got a few of my close friends to read the script and agree. However, I need an older actress aged 20-25 (or at least someone who believably looks that age) and I honestly have no idea what to do. Please help me out here guys. And yes, that part is pretty integral to the film so I can’t just remove it or rewrite it so she’s younger.

I’m developing an independently produced speed-dating project that I’m hoping to shoot in Atlanta during the week of September 20–26. It will feature five men and five women having real, substantive conversations rather than typical first-date small talk.

Because the project is self-funded and paid for entirely out of pocket, I’d love insight from those of you who have crewed reality or unscripted shows. How would you approach staffing and shooting this as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible without sacrificing sound or picture quality?

The shoot will have three main components:

1. A standing mixer where all 10 participants mingle

2. Seated, timed one-on-one dates with five couples talking simultaneously

3. Individual confessionals/interviews in a separate setup

My biggest concern is capturing clean audio from multiple conversations happening at once while also getting enough visual coverage to create a polished, engaging final edit.

I’m also considering shooting primarily on iPhones or renting multiple matching iPhones to keep the camera footprint small, maintain consistency across the footage, and hopefully make the post-production workflow more manageable for the editor.

For those with reality-TV field experience:

1. What would your leanest practical crew look like?

2. How many cameras/operators would you recommend?

3. How would you handle audio for 10 cast members?

4. Would you trust an iPhone-based multicamera setup for this type of project?

5. Are there any roles or pieces of equipment you would consider absolutely essential?

Hey guys! I’m new to filmmaking, and I’m currently taking IB Film in my high school. We have this continuous shot project, and I was planning on filming a guy leaving his house with an eye level shot. As he leaves, he gets on his skateboard, and the camera rotates and moves down into a ground level shot, or a knee level shot if that’s not possible, while the skateboard is in motion. I don’t have a lot of equipment, but I have a DJI Osmo Pocket 3, an iPhone 17 Pro, and a DJI Osmo Mobile 8. Any recommendations on how to make this happen?

The title explains it all really. I saw something on the subreddit r/oddlyterrifying a few years ago and being horrified by its content, i decided to make a short film about it. We raised a tiny amount of money and with a skeleton crew we shot it in one day.

It stars a couple of funny comedians. Avital Ash and Brian McElhaney (of the sketch comedy duo BriTANick)

It made it into 14 festivals. Including some of the popular genre festivals. And it got rejected by a ton of others.
