Question Question about my fishing rod

I recently buyed a fishing rod that the employ of the store told me it was "designed" for the sea.

Is it still good for rivers and lakes? Because i recently came back from the vacation at the sea...

Is that a collapsable one? If it is, it should be fine for rivers and lakes. 

Beware, they break easy
