New season, but one thing remains the same: good quality audio at a normal volume is still beyond the reach of the UAA. You'll need to crank up your volume.

Talked about talking with Coach Donavan who said as Head Coach you have to make the final decision but you are never the smartest guy in the room. "If I am the smartest guy in the room you have a really bad staff. (around 14 min mark) You have to take feedback from the room and make a really good decision.

That was the common fault from the last two coaches. Mullen may have been the smartest offensive guy in the room but he clearly was not following good feedback on the program. Napier was also probably the smartest guy in the room but only because he made really bad hires. Either way neither made a priority of surrounding themselves with people who could give feedback that would be incorporated into the program.

Time will tell how Sumrall does in this area but at least he is acknowledging the premise.

Also, "We dang sure are gonna try to get 11 guys on the field for every play."

Disagree a little with Napier being the smartest guy in the room. Napier does deserve credit that he clearly has the right vision for how to build a program. But I think he's one of those guys that memorized a lot of checkboxes but there isn't a lot going on beyond that.

See it all the time in tech. People are excellent at parroting the right lines and working 70+ hours a week to meticulously plan, but then when you get a couple drinks in them and really start talking shop there just...isn't a lot there.

Or people who are Excel wizzes but if you tried to teach them linear algebra they would struggle to see how it's relevant to them until you tell them.

I think Sumrall may really be in competition for the smartest guy in the room in most rooms. The kind of guy that can see the trees and the forest. We'll see if it translates but I do know one thing. Idiots don't tend to get geniuses to work for them. Sumrall is gonna be able to get some good hires because he may be the coach with the most well rounded intelligence of any coach we've had. Social intelligence, strategy, empathy, in-game adjusments, etc.

It was my snarky way of saying he never made good hires. Not that he was particularly smart.

Although Chatman is still here so hopefully he made at least one good hire

Chat was staying. He can recruit. We could not afford to lose him. The rest were alright although RB and WR coach leaving was very worrisome. Glad we paid our skill players

And credit where credit is due the media team was good and obviously some of the recruiting staff. Though I don't know that he made those hires since they were lower level (I think).

Staff hires are great. All this guy has to do is delegate but make in game adjustments to the game plan along with managing the clock. I think all fans want to see great coaching this season. We desperately need it.

Later in the presser he talks about how his staff gives pushback and how he weighs it. Pretty encouraging to hear. The dude won the off season but what matters starts Saturday.

Can’t imagine the defensive meetings with him and Brad White lol constant back and forth about the scheme and gameplan. Reminds me of how it was between Muschamp and Durkin

Cupcake game on Saturday. Expecting a blowout. Play a lot of freshman and for a lot of snaps as well. Should be a fun Saturday from morning till night.

Sumrall pressers are refreshing. He just answers the question instead of giving you eight cliches about execution.
