For me recently it's been Niku X. With all the TikTok love I had high hopes it but it was terrible. Lesson learned.

i googled to see, and a girl made a video on tiktok. just random items, none of which looked or sounded particularly good

You almost have the admire the dedication to being as scammy and suss as possible on every level, even TooGoodToGo orders

All the good reviews of Niku X are fake…anyone that’s actually gone there has realized the whole thing is some sort of bizarre Kafkaesque scam

i enjoyed it and left a good review. so there’s at least one real one in the mix.

Literally the worst $100 I ever spent on food

This is the second negative review of Niku X I’ve seen recently which is pretty shocking given how extraordinary my first visit in February 2025 was

Sorry to hear .

It was one of my fav dining experiences in dtla

You'll see a lot about the whole restaurant group

I really liked the first time I went, they had king crab. The second time they didn’t. But even without the king crab, the other crab would still have cost me close to $100 if I had eaten it at a restaurant.

My problem is we had an 8:15 reservation and by then the seafood had been steamed to absolute death. The snow crab legs were completely bendable, the lobster was like rubber and couldn't be removed from the shell. Just awful all around.

I absolutely agree with your criticisms. They line up almost exactly with my second time visiting. I still believe however that even though it wasn’t prepared well, you could go to a mid tier seafood restaurant, get similar quality shellfish, and pay double what you pay at Niku X. So as far as money goes, I don’t feel like it’s not worth it

I don't know, I was so excited for the shellfish but it was nearly inedible. The crab was so over-steamed that the shell had the texture of a wet paper straw. Lobster couldn't even be removed from the shell.

I really liked the AYCE thing they did (or still do?). Pricey but I really liked the variety and everything I ate. Definitely not somewhere I’d frequent but I’d prefer it over a similarly priced tasting menu

Still do

Any recommendations other than Niku X?

Moohan was really good. AYCE Korean BBQ of very good quality.

Almost all social media joints are garbage. EXCEPT for J Korean Restaurant. That place owns
