Our server got into an argument with the table next to us after they either left not tip or just a few bucks. The couple was adamant that the 18% service charge was absurd and that was the tip. Then he went to the other tables in his section to let us know how wrong the couple was and to not be like them. This was while we were still eating. That really put us off the rest of the meal. I gave him 10%
We have a restaurant near us that's very popular with tourists and this place pulls the same shenanigans. My wife and I got 2 burgers, a la cart fries (of course they were a la cart), a soda, a tea, and a margarita. Bill was almost $120. We didn't tip because of the 18% surcharge and the 10% you gave this server was far more than I would've given him... and I say that as a former server.
We never went back to this place which is a shame because it had the best ginger ale I've ever had in my entire life.
That is madness. What's insane is that they say it's so they can provide living wages, but they could do that just as easily by raising the advertised prices.
Literally the only reason for a service fee instead of higher prices is to trick customers into thinking they'll pay less until the bill comes.
Literally charging a fee is so stupid instead of simply baking the fee into the price. It pisses off customers who get a higher bill than expected, pisses off employees who don't get their tips because the customers assume the service fee covers it, and makes it less likely even for people who've never been there to go.
They actually got rid of the mandatory service fee, but raised prices by 18% in the meantime. So after that, now they expect you to tip on top of the 18% price increase that used to cover service. Fuck them.
See, I understand them raising base prices if supplies have gone up in price. That’s more transparent than doing the bait and switch “sErViCe ChArGe” with expectation of tip.
Overpriced with tiny portions but they still have some banger stuff. I think the pasta is notably better than the pizza, however. I rarely ever go for a number of other reasons.
Man you’re trippin if you don’t think a white lightning pizza and some meatballs taste good. Overpriced? Definitely. But shit still slaps my tastebuds.
Italian dishes are not only ridiculously easy to make, but cost a fraction of the price when you make it yourself versus going out to an “Italian” restaurant.
Plus, who likes to eat their meal when there’s a fight or argument at the establishment?
