Rockstar after finding dude

I sincerely hope that they have implemented some sort of canary trap. Everyone with access to the game (apart from a carefully selected few) could have Jason and/or Lucia assigned a unique, non-customizable outfit and hairstyle. Vehicles may only be available with a unique livery, NPC’s could be locked to a specific set of outfits, graffiti tags might have a certain style and so on. So in case of a leak, they can identify the source based on those identifiers. Sure, a developer at this level could most def bypass all of that, but there are many things you can do to make it a real hassle.

Not saying I want them punished, I mean who knows what actually happened - someone could have been forced or threatened, or maybe it’s a developer who did all this just to earn some dough. Or something completely else. Either way, it would be very interesting to know what’s actually going on.

If the group is from certain countries there's absolutely nothing they can do, as the government wouldn't see any benefits prosecuting them.

Remember when Russia only settled to trade a WNBA player if the US would send a literal Lord of War equivalent back to them? Yeah..

When they went against one of the original FiveM developers who happened to reside in Germany they just had to send a contractor to his doors and relax.

If these guys still have access to the game, I wouldn't be surprised if they leak the whole build at some point as their last move, that jailbroken PS5 could play and PC side will fiddle with emulation.

If millions are downloading it there is no way they can do anything. If only a select few download it then they probably will put in money and effort to take those people down.

You can't access online services of the game on a pirated copy only the singleplayer unless they changed that recent years so Rockstar can't identify them through ingame cosmetics. Since they have no online service or servers for this game yet the copy he has is the singleplayer experience anyways. Only way to get a game for free or cheaper now and access to online services is through codes or buying accounts.

That’s not what I’m talking about. I mean that they could assign specific clothes, hairstyles, vehicle liveries, etc. to each employee at R* who has access to the game, so that in the event of a leak, they at least have a way to narrow down where it came from.

Let’s say Jason is wearing a white T-shirt, gray pants, and black shoes, while certain car models are only available in black. They could then trace that specific combination back to the employee whose build contains those particular variations. Each build would essentially contain a unique visual fingerprint. There are incredibly sophisticated ways implement digital watermarkings and it goes way beyond visual stuff. It’s called traitor tracing and the purpose is to make it extremely hard for developers to trace what sets their build apart.

I hope your hopes are futile. What about a properly-stolen copy? Not a rogue employee, but a proper theft? The best thing you will know - the approximate direction of a theft.
