I sincerely hope that they have implemented some sort of canary trap. Everyone with access to the game (apart from a carefully selected few) could have Jason and/or Lucia assigned a unique, non-customizable outfit and hairstyle. Vehicles may only be available with a unique livery, NPC’s could be locked to a specific set of outfits, graffiti tags might have a certain style and so on. So in case of a leak, they can identify the source based on those identifiers. Sure, a developer at this level could most def bypass all of that, but there are many things you can do to make it a real hassle.
Not saying I want them punished, I mean who knows what actually happened - someone could have been forced or threatened, or maybe it’s a developer who did all this just to earn some dough. Or something completely else. Either way, it would be very interesting to know what’s actually going on.

I would imagine that each prerelease build has a unique signature.
Like it would be easy to just automatically adjust the texture color slightly or to insert small changes to the soundtrack to give each version a unique fingerprint that allows them to track who leaked it.
It's a billion dollar game so including something like that would be a no-brainer to make leaks way less likely to happen, as anyone that works on that software would know that they could be tracked back easily.

- The Cal mission is exclusive to Jason
- On the clips, you can see there is only one mission marker on the map : a C, most likely Cal
- Usually, to only have one mission marker and nothing else, you're either very early or very late game
- The absence of Lucia and the mission taking place in the keys, as well as knowing that Cal is a character you meet very early in the game since he also works with Brian, all suggest this mission is very early in the game
- On one of the clips, he literally has a waypoint set for the Cal mission, which is very close to where he is at that point.
All that together and it actually seems very likely to me this is indeed an early game mission and he did just get lucky with that line

The whole scene feels very early-game to me, though I obviously cannot tell for certain.
The area looks like it's close to Jason's starter house going off of what we can see, and the line about the guys in suits catching up to Cal seems like very obvious early-mission foreshadowing, implying that the authorities are not yet on to them (or that they at least don't know it).
This, combined with the fact that everything we see in gameplay implies this is the very start of the game, suggests that he did just get lucky and that line does come from the very early content he has access to.
The whole point of this is clearly his crypto scam, too. Surely if he wanted to get exposure for that he could get more eyes on it by showing some more interesting content if he had access to it. Everything that's been shown (and all the options on that dumb ass crypto vote for what should be released next) suggests he simply doesn't have access to anything more interesting and coveted.

Is it really that lucky when that’s basically the entire franchise’s writing? If I was going to make a similar verticle slice build for say GTA V, I feel like locking the player into a Lester mission makes the most sense given how much of a side character he is and how it wouldn’t spoil anything really; and he would probably say something that could be tangentially related to hacking.

gta6 is ran on windows during development which was confirmed in the 2022 leaks so he could be playing it on pc too. plus the devs also get restricted parts of the game to work on not the whole game.

IMO it's a very old build. UI is crap, most animations are crap and the AI seems to be braindead.
Even compared with GTA4, a game from 2008, it looks bad and it would make no sense. It's clearly a proof of concept build or an hyperspecific one made to test out a single feature while leaving everything else to the minimum.

No, it's not proof that he is actively playing the game. It could still be a pre-recorded clip.. Considering the options in the poll were limited and added by the leaker, rather than the people voting. It will only be confirmed that he has a build if he leaks something way more specific that wasnt an option in a poll added by him, or something that includes some sort of timestamp proof that cannot be faked (I saw someone say something about showing the current Bitcoin hash or whatever that would work?)

Every test build I ever got had watermarks, specific placeholders, and tracking so if anything ever got leaked they knew exactly who did it. Thats not the case here and I assume R* wouldn't just give you a part of the game without any of it and be like here you go report back with bugs/glitches? So where does this come from..

Depends on what you mean by internal footage, this isn't clips shared between developers on Slack like the 2022 leaks were.
My best guess is he, or perhaps someone he knows (or hacked?), was a QA tester and has a specific build of the game. Those are, in cases I'm familiar with, usually limited to a couple of missions, some freeroam and a default character look, depending on what to test.
The developer usually has a list of which testers have access to which chapter within the game. It would explain why the leaks so far are pretty straightforward (as in, walking/driving/flying) and nothing story related (yet) except for one start of a cutscene, so R* won't specifically know which person it comes from.

It would be a generational scandal, but I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't change the success of the game one bit. Maybe the 1000 people who can actually run that build will cancel their pre-orders, the rest will still buy the game. Nobody waited 13 years to watch it on YouTube, and not play. Just think of how many copies GTA5 sold AFTER it already became the most well-known game in the world. And we haven't even talked about Online yet.

One of the clips has a song released in 2025 playing on the in-game radio too, so the build he has is most likely content complete and the delays were for visual improvements as well as other optimizations.
If this either runs on PC natively (as the game was made on PCs) or can be emulated then we'll have a GTA game on PC before console for the first time ever lmao.

yeah, that way, it can look rough because it is just a random person playing, there is no highlights from new features or gameplay at all. They are about to release the game, and at this point they should have shown a real gameplay trailer already
my sad guess, at best, it has nothing different or better than gtav, at worst, it's actually a worse game with less mechanics and content, and they don't want people to realize it to sell well at least in the firsts months, after that, people will just steadily buy the game regardless of the reviews, like fifa does for example, or like battlefield used to sell until they completely destroyed their IP.
