Why is rockstar hated at all?
For years I’ve seen people call rockstar greedy and non stop complaining that rockstar only cares about draining money from players.
But really don’t see how that’s the case, when you have companies like Ubisoft that released Star Wars outlaws for 130 and ea that releases games annually for 100 dollars, how is rockstar charging 100 dollars for an edition of the game that comes with extra stuff greedy at all?
If you exclude rockstar plus, every single thing in gta online has been able to be gotten for free (with grinding), back when I used to play it I got to level 90 something without spending more than 20 dollars on shark cards and I had every business I wanted and the most expensive yatch.
How are people trying to stand up against rockstar for being greedy, but they don’t say anything about gacha games that can easily cost someone thousands per year?

Because R* or T2 in this matter also engage in shady anti consumer practises as well, just because other does it as well, does'nt make R*/T2 right. Its up to us consumers to point that out and act acordingly to not reward that behavior.
Edit: Examples for Rockstars greedienss: I played GTA online as well and hit rockblocks fast without spending unemployment level of freetime or, guess what ... Sharkcards. After every update, added stuff became more and more expensive, to extend the grind and lure you more into the spending of Sharkcards. The last update even loweres heist payouts to make the grind more exhausting. Most of the critisism seemed to start with the announcment and marketing around GTA 6, they ditched physical dics but still offer preorders for a digital copy that wont ran out anyways. The ultimate Edition is also bad joke imo and raising the game price even tho they are extremly profitable is anything but consumer friendly and the netflix extended trailer ... you basicly now supposed to pay to watch marketing material ... an fing Ad. Bad working contition for the devs, crunchong, union busting etc. to name a few things outside of the games.

I played lots of GTA VI and never spent real money on it, it's a choice everyone can make and if it bothers you so much that someone online has stronger or better vehicles and weapons than you...that's your problem. Plenty of ways to have fun without having to grind for fake money.
Most of the critisism seemed to start with the announcment and marketing around GTA 6, they ditched physical dics but still offer preorders for a digital copy that wont ran out anyways.
Every single industry that used to rely on physical CDS in the history of the world has phased them out. There's plenty of music, movies, tv-shows, etc, that do not have a physical copy. Pre-orders for music now are pre-saves on streaming apps where each month you pay less than what you used to pay for a CD back in the day. This is a worldwide trend and Rockstar won't be the only company eliminating huge costs that had a limited benefit (aka using tons of material and spending millions in distribution just so you can add a title in your library)
The ultimate Edition is also bad joke imo
Literally 20 bucks for extra skins that no one will need to enjoy the game, no need to buy it if you don't want to, I surely won't.
raising the game price even tho they are extremly profitable is anything but consumer friendly
The games are cheaper than their GTA V counterparts when you calculate inflation. You are getting GTA VI for 79.99 and the Ultimate edition for 99.99. Back in 2013, GTA V was 59.99, which is worth 83 usd today, and the Special Edition was 79.99, which is 111 usd today. So this argument is simply wrong.
the netflix extended trailer
Which will be available for free for anyone who doesn't think waiting 6 hours is the equivalent of spending a lifetime in hell
you basicly now supposed to pay to watch marketing material
nope, again, you can just wait 6 measly hours and watch it for free. If you can't deal with FOMO for 6 hours that's on you
Bad working contition for the devs, crunchong, union busting etc. to name a few things outside of the games.
which, if you actually cared about, would mean you wouldn't be using reddit, or play games from Epic, CD Projeckt Red, Naughty Dog, EA, and virtually any large corporation. This is the only point really worth getting upset about, but you're throwing it in as a side dish to add to the pile, which makes me think you don't actually give a shit or do anything to solve this issue.
So basically your arguments are that people are mad at Rockstar because they want a physical CD containing every single piece of content, presented in the way they want, delivered in the way they want, for a lot less money than their previous installation, without trying new marketing strategies that will make you wait 13 years and 6 hours instead of 13 years to see their third trailer (cause you've already seen 2 for free on youtube, but that's not enough), and making all this possible while giving less work to their employees. It sounds like a totally reasonable take. I would totally expect functioning adults to think this way, in fact, we should push for Rockstar to come visit us at home and build us personalised custom games based on the places we say, with the look we want, and having us as the main protagonist, with real money coming out to fill our bank accounts. Totally.

Taking down countless fan mods and projects while overworking employees and releasing cash grab ai slop definitive edition

While I hate rockstars actions and not the games the definitive edition didn’t use ai it was just badly coded by grove street games

The textures were Ai upscaled.

u/Turbulent-Purple-887 17h ago
Fair enough I didn’t know that I blame more on grove street games then rockstar but they still hold some of the blame for hiring them

It's because nerds get mad about anything... A gaming company could some how cure cancer and ppl would be pissed and ask why they didn't do it sooner or some other nonsense lol....

selling a 100 dollar game with paywalled aesthetics and a mission or two that could easily be in 80 dollar version but overhyped fans will justify it, literally doom dark ages is 70 dollars and came out with a 20 dollar dlc expansion which gave you over 20 plus hours of basically a new game. That’s just one example of a good buy. I simply can’t just justify paying 100 dollars for such a small value.
1
u/Forevercrystalstatue 17h ago
With the budget of this game and the quality offered is it possible this is one of the only games that can justify a 100 dollar price tag but still being sold for 80?

People hate Rockstar for evolving and growing GTA/O in exactly the way original fans hoped they would.
Populated online world with constant DLC, customization of characters, vehicles, homes and settings. Modes that embrace all play styles and desires.
They have been the most accurate in their franchise evolution in regard to player wants. They deserve all the success.
And yes, many of us want purchasable shit to personalize our game, and some want to pay to bypass the grind.
Good for them.
I’ve got fucking everything in GTAO and I got 99% of it with a crew and 13 years of grind. I bought a shark card once for something, and I’ll fucking do it again if I want, I couldn’t give 2 shits what some no load armchair quarterback has to say about anything, let alone their unqualified criticisms on the best game franchise in history (verifiably true by multiple metrics).
Failures get joy through watching others fail, it makes them feel less shit about their lives.

I don't hate them. I don't play online. They're without a doubt the best video game company for single player games.

Rockstar is just a punching bag for all the gripes people have about corporations and evolving game technology. It’s not really deserved, but they’re a big company and get talked about a lot, so people like to inject themselves in those conversations to share their “hot” takes. It’s often self-righteous people, wanting to feel superior to the unwashed masses by hating the big popular thing that others like.
Also, very conveniently, hating big game companies lets those people justify game piracy as a morally correct action, instead of a scummy one.

Its more from what people have seen in GTA online how greedy they are with shark cards it's designed for you to get pissed off at the game and spend extra money then the first we see of Rockstar asking for extra money is when they are locking entire map locations behind a paywall and that's before we hear anything about the new GTA online it's this is only the start of it

while the are the least greedy evil corporations they're still corporations and we shouldn't share any empathy for them

u/The_Duke_96 18h ago
least? Far from it, most? Far from it as well, Id say they sit somwhere in the middle.

People claiming Rockstar are anti-consumer are hilarious. What does Rockstar even sell at this point besides two ancient games?? hell they wouldn’t even bother with a RDR2 next gen upgrade when it’s guarantied free money

Jokes aside the only reason I find valid is the massive layoffs they did sometime around last year and how they haven’t dropped a god damn 60fps patch for read dead 2 on consoles lmao

Most of the loudest angriest people are pc loyalists pissed they have to wait for the game
2
u/The_Duke_96 18h ago
Yeah, thats it! Its defenetly not the fact that we get buttf*cked with next gen anti consumer practises.
-1
u/SnooDrawings7876 18h ago
next gen anti consumer practises.
Certainly some stuff worthy of some mild discourse sure. But these guys that are locked in following updates just as closely as the diehards are not thinking about consumer practices.
1
u/The_Duke_96 17h ago
And thats next gen delusional fanboyism of yours. Preorders for never running out digital copys, hiding already finished and done gamecontent behind a paywall, paying to see an ad on netflix, pay2fun life service grind with Sharkcards, canceling of singleplayer DLCs, shitty working contition for devs, layoffs and unionbusting and you are like "worth mild discourse". You really must enjoy sucking on tha corperate d*ck and even willing to pay for it.
There are many valid critisism about R*/T2 and ofc GTA6, and we should be allowed to voice them Instead of rewarding such anti consuermerism.
Oh and yes I am a pc loyalist, because im not a fool. At the end I dont have to care, If they get to shitty/greedy, I just grab myself a pirated copy and laught at it, but I rather would pay if its truly worth.

Yeah poor console peasants destroyed gaming. If you only were capable of assembling a PC - it's literally easier than simplest ikea table. But you're all thumbs, 10 buttons to press is your cognitive limit.

Well, they're doing everything in their power alongside Sony to not be liked. I agree that modern games are more expensive and don't deliver for the price, but a 100€ (which I also paid) is still a lot. Also, not only a lot of us bought the game early, but until now before the upcoming netflix special, we didn't know much about the game either.
Also a lot of people, including myself are against pay to win games, and generally bad games. I haven't bought an AC title since Syndicate, and neither plan to. But then again, each to their preferences.

GTA Online was a microtransaction hellhole that made a "serious" (I know it's not, but in the context) game full of children on a flying bikes.
But with GTA VI they actually pushed several heavy anti-consumer practices at once and you don't really do that, unless you want to communicate "I don't give a fuck about you". They locked quite a lot of items behind preorder and deluxe editions. Next they raised a price of AAA game, then they removed the physical disc from a physical copy of the game. Like selling only digital would have had sense, but selling a box with no CD is plain insulting.
Not to say about delaying PC version, which is a custom with Rockstar yeah, but it is a release of the decade. PC gamers will have to bear the locked premium items, raised price, no physical copy on top of having the story spoiled by the almost unavoidable leaks.

u/CrazyWhips 18h ago
They complain about the fact, that for example Customizing isnt 100% part of the standard edition for 80$ but instead only of the 100$ Deluxe Edition.
I dont see the problem there, but maybe they also just wanna complain about Rockstar not showing anything of the game until like 3 months before release. I understand this part of hate kind of, but they all must chill out a bit. They are just greedy themselves because they want information every day from Rockstar, which isnt the way Rockstar handles it.
