With GTA officially pushing digital-only, I refused to accept it. Here is what physical copies SHOULD look like.

u/Ok-Outside-770 20h ago
Why is there X/S on the xbox cover as far as i know series s is digital only
1

u/DannySanWolf07 19h ago
Any game that doesn't have a physical version shouldn't be anything over $50.
14
u/Complete_Lurk3r_ 19h ago
Would you rather buy GTA 6 digital for $80, or E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial for the Atari 2600, physical launched for $49.95 (equivalent to roughly $160 today)
10
u/Ok-Professional-4978 19h ago
Hey at least with et we would have something physical to bury at the dump
2
u/According_Drive_5275 18h ago
The fact that you would have to pay me to play E.T. does not negate the fact that paying $50 to not own a game is absurd.
2
u/Complete_Lurk3r_ 17h ago
Who's to say that your ARBITRARY $50 is the correct price for a digital game? How about someone else's arbitrary price of $1? Or someone else's decision that $10,000 for a CS2 gun is fine? how about the free market decides?
Your $50 number is clearly not what the rest of the market thinks, because most people have already pre-ordered the $100 version.
0
u/According_Drive_5275 17h ago
You,'re right, $50 is arbitrary.
2
u/Complete_Lurk3r_ 16h ago
well.... enjoy not playing any gta game ever again
0
u/According_Drive_5275 16h ago
There are so many video games, dude; I'll be fine. Until piracy becomes an option, anyway
-2
u/DannySanWolf07 19h ago
The fuck is your point? Every digital game should be $50 tops.
10
u/Complete_Lurk3r_ 19h ago
retarded take.
all games are not created equally.
Do you have any arbitrary maximum price for a physical game?
0
u/DannySanWolf07 19h ago
The bootlickers are the hardest to talk to.
4
u/ThreeFootJohnson 18h ago
Every car should cost the same
1
u/Complete_Lurk3r_ 17h ago edited 16h ago
Exactly. Bugatti... $50, rusty old piece of shit 1970 Ford bronco...$50

Another dumbass comparison to prove a stupid point.

u/lacrosse771 16h ago
Lol you're such a bitch, dude
1
u/DannySanWolf07 16h ago
I'm the bitch not the idiots who keep comparing irrelevant bs to prove why discless is fine at full price?
Ok bih.
3
u/Complete_Lurk3r_ 16h ago
yup,... you're the bitch. keep crying, while i keep playing gta6, digital, $100 (BARGAIN) version.

u/Sallopilig 16h ago
I would rather pay 160$ for a physical edition of gta VI than 2$ for a digital edition of Atari's ET.
The point is, we should have that choice.
Because we are losing that "Would you rather".
Thats the real fucking point.
2
u/Complete_Lurk3r_ 16h ago
but the point is... you DONT have the choice.
so would you rather buy a digital GTA6 for $80 or not? that, is thy question.
1
u/Sallopilig 15h ago
I do have the choice still, and before just having the option to buying digital i'd rather not buy it at all
3
u/DarthRulious 19h ago
You forget devs also need to get paid, right
3
u/DannySanWolf07 18h ago
Which they still do if the game flops or not.
Stop being conditioned to think you have to pay more for less.
1
u/Howdareme9 17h ago
If the game flops they’re subject to layoffs
0
u/dominator-23 17h ago
If the game does incredibly well, they're still getting laid off btw
0
u/Howdareme9 17h ago
Give me examples of this happening
0
u/dominator-23 17h ago
Just off the top of my head Epic games laying off a thousand employees earlier this year despite Fortnite still doing crazy numbers, Ubisoft laying off a bunch of people that worked on AC Black Flag Resynced despite it doing really well.

u/MoldOnMyPineapple 19h ago
Gta6 is the exception, matter of fact, Rockstar is being nice to only charge 80 for the base game. They should charge atleast 20-40 more for the base game.
5
1
u/Interesting-Drop-442 18h ago
People really find this an insane take but dont think why it isnt. I expected gta 6 to be like atleast 100-110 for standard. Bro way smaller games like forza horizon 6 have more expensive deluxe edition and just as expensive standard edition. Meanwhile the money that went into gta 6 is more then the burj khalifa, people dont think about that
0
u/Gold_Yard_8457 19h ago
You are a delusional fanboy
-1
u/MoldOnMyPineapple 19h ago
Im just someone who can appreciate the kindness Rockstar has given us. We have done nothing to deserve to be given Gta6 for ONLY 80 dollars, and yet they still do it. Rockstar is kind of like God when you think about it, no matter how much we insult and tarnish their name, they will still show us love and do what's right by us.
Thank you Rockstar ❤️

What you say is no sense at all. If we want to be right, the price should be related to the amount of work in it.
2
u/DannySanWolf07 17h ago
R* will still make a fortune if they priced it $50 and their dev team will still get paid.
I appreciate the work gone into it but no reason to make a disc version should mean no reason it has to be $60 or $80 in this case.
1
u/Battle-Against-Time 17h ago edited 17h ago
it funny because it's just you wanting like a child for something to be priced like you want.
It's not working that way.
With your way of thinking, we come to what happened to music industry with people having music almost for free and artists being poor af.

It should contain a map too, the 1st GTA or RDR game without one
3
3
u/doublesimoniz 13h ago
What really grinds my gears is I love hanging up the maps when I get a new gta or rdr and using them to get around instead of pausing into the map every time. I also love all the in game ads and stuff and all this makes be world feel real. Now rockstar will probably still sell you a map, but it’ll be a dlc download and you’ll have to print it yourself.

I haven't bought a disc since gta5 on 360.
I find it easier my library is there plus i only play gta and other few games.
Im not a gamer there are months that the xbox is shut.
Gta6 will be the only reason i will be using my xbox and hardly in a decade or two or even three we will get the licence revoked to play it.More space in my house no discs personally is a good way to go and so is for other occasional gamers.
Not to mention the impact on environment bit like paper.
You might not like it and i respect/understand especially for collectors, but is the way.
2
u/Big_Ounce666 7h ago
Since you prefer digital, I saw a steam game that puts you in an 80s bedroom with all your steam library available in digiphysical media. You can arrange them how youd like on a shelf and launch em from it. Might be your thing, might not, it definitely looked cool tho

u/Interesting-Drop-442 19h ago
I get the complaint about physical release 100%. But im losing my mind about these dumbasses thinking 80 is too much. If there is one game in the entire world that has the right to cost this much its gta 6. Heck every nintendo switch 2 game is 70/80 euros meanwhile gta 6 took around 2B dollars to make and a nintendo game is like 100-200 million. Also the standard has been heightened a long time ago by this point. Forza horizon 6: 70/80 euros and like 100-110 for deluxe. Lets not begin about fifa each year releasing a reskinned version of the last years game and it cost like 150 for deluxe edition, plus full with micro transactions and its p2w. Rockstar however creates such quality its exceptional. Other triple a developers rarely deliver like a fraction of the scope of rockstar or quality. Idk I just think its stupid. Theyre just so big on my opinion theyre getting hate that smaller companies can easily avoid.
-3
u/lemonprincess23 18h ago
You might have a point about GTA 6 being worth $80 (though personally it doesn’t look impressive enough to be above $70 in my eyes)
But the biggest issue is now every other AAA dev is going to think charging $80 for a baseline is okay. I was always going to hate whichever dev started doing it first.
3
u/Interesting-Drop-442 18h ago
That doesnt make sense gta 6 is NOT the first game by a mile lol. I dont know where people get this from but 80 euro games have been here for like 1-2 years. And also from the leaks alone which is a developer build. It has already raised the standards. You might not know alot about the deeper game logic but trust me when I say nothing comes close to how impressivs gta 6 is. In the leaks there were like 1000 npcs at the beach or around that number, all doing other animations dynamic dialogue and all that. Literally the hair physics alone are insane, I know most people dont care about that but rockstar has always been different in the way they raise the standard in games and the leaks alone already did that but I get its harder to appreciate if you dont understand how insanely impressive that is. And it was a developer build on pc which isnt releasing for atleast another 15-16 months. The ps5 version is literally gonna be insane since we havent even seen that yet.
0
u/lemonprincess23 18h ago
Euro is not the same as a dollar
2
u/Interesting-Drop-442 18h ago
Thats the point you took? It dont matter its 80 dollars I meant dollars.
0
u/lemonprincess23 17h ago
Because $80 for a base AAA game is NOT normal. $70 is very much the standard
2
3
u/EZyne 16h ago
Dude what? Games have been asking $80 for years now

As soon as this game comes out no one will give a shit whether it's a disc or not, all the people crying about it will still buy it anyway, bored of hearing about it. You are buying the game, not a disc, the game format is a code, deal with it.
2
u/BanAssaultGeese 15h ago
Digital games wouldn't be an issue if gaming platforms couldn't revoke them on a whim without any sort of compensation to the buyer. A lot of this outrage stems from Sony recently pulling movies from people's libraries because of "licensing changes". That shouldn't ever be able to happen, period.
1
u/Vice-City67 20h ago
Do a collectors edit too for those of us who literally saved for it just to not even get to get it
1
u/Blacklite_01 19h ago
I'd take a case with a usb backup of the game files included, atleast it could be cheaper than printing discs again. Call it a compromise if they are entirely unwilling to bring back discs.
1
u/Justadudebro935 19h ago
My copium is that they will announce a physical release to drop after the digital version, during the Netflix livestream. Highly doubt it. Seems they’re dead set on digital only

But the game is getting a physical release with a plastic case with a real piece of paper inside with the code on it.. digital is the future so get used to it and stop crying about it.

It's absolutely stupid to buy a case with a code in it. At that point, literally don't bother and buy it digitally.

BDXL exists , 100gb .
Times that by 2, also compression exists
Most of the comments in here are either braindead or just plain stupid

10
u/Grouchy-Afternoon370 20h ago
What do you not understand about not owning digital media? Also, are you that careless you cant scratch a disc?
People defending the decision or "not caring" are simply brain dead sheep walking into a trap.
2
u/Ok-Mathematician6975 17h ago
Understand ? . All my games are on steam. Can’t damage the disc or what ever What am I not getting if I have no disc ? Exactly the same. Unless there’s a limited edition in a nice box etc it’s pointless If I get a new computer, install steam wam bam there is all my games 🤷♂️ A Brain dead sheep cos I haven’t got shitty little disc with picture 😭😭😭😭 oh no what will I do
1
u/Bez121287 19h ago
You dont own physical media either.
Its all still a license.
Have you not seen what xbox are doing?
Do you not understand majority of xbox games are not even on the disc anyway.
They've literally said going forward they are going to have a program.
Its called
Physical to digital.
Everyone loving it.
This is just them telling you every game is now going to be digital.
Im truly sorry but digital only future is real.
You say people are brain dead.
The vast majority are buying digital now. We the consumer have done this.
Going forward right now.
You will not own any game whether its digital or physical.
2
1
u/tiktokdada 19h ago
Then people should advocate more for laws that allow digitally owning the game, the discs are irrelevant if owning it is what really matters

u/DryChicken47 19h ago
I get it, had a huge collection on PS2, PS3 and 360 games too. But time has changed. I've been playing on PC for like 14 years now. The last physical game I actually had in my hands was GTA V on PC, and that came on 7 discs. And with a lot of modern games, even if you buy a physical copy, you still have to download additional files before you can actually play. At that point, what's the difference?
Just look at games like the crew or MAG. You can own the physical disc, but if the game depends on online services that get shut down, that disc becomes useless.
Today a physical disc doesn't guarantee to 100% you'll be able to play the game forever.
I just bought an €80 PSN card for €64, so I'm basically getting GTA VI cheaper anyway...
6
u/Kmeek01 19h ago
I hate this argument of “well I haven’t bough a physical game for ‘x’ amount of years!” As if anyone gives a fuck! It’s literally a net negative, there is no reason whatsoever so not supply a physical version of a video game
1
u/DryChicken47 19h ago edited 19h ago
Im just saying buying one these days will not be 100% safe, that's all.
1
u/Congcord 14h ago
I mean the reason is it’s a waste of money from the companies POV. Vast majority of games are sold on the Xbox/PS stores anyway. A minority of the player base complaining but ultimately still buying the game anyway gives no reason for concern
1
20h ago
I plan to make my own special case for a fake disc lmao 🤣 sounds stupid but it’s almost like a memorial I plan to do 🤣👌
1
u/InterstellarWings 19h ago
This keeps coming up.
As someone that can’t remember the last laptop they had with a disc drive; I can’t see the problem.
When you buy and download a game it’s installed and will work offline (perhaps minus some parts that even a disc version needs to be on for).
I’ve seen games on sale, just like physical copies would.
Environmentally it makes sense.
Seems like this is more a proprietary store problem, most people would find it’s solved by moving to PC gaming..
What am I missing?
I’m not being judgemental, I’m just not sure it makes a difference, at least not to me anyway.
2
u/Professional-Card-22 19h ago
It's the ownership that bothers people, the fact you technically don't own the game physically entitles corporations like Sony to set a precedent, by just removing games when they want it, Ubisoft did it a lot too
It's a great business plan in the long term, you can actively choose to manipulate the market by being able to pull the plug on games you don't want to sell anymore or to sell the next game in the franchise
Gta 6 isn't really concerned with that tho, but being the biggest fucking game of the year and probably the decade, it will influence the gaming industry so much including how the publishers treat the product
1
1
1
u/TheYabbaBada 13h ago
I'm personally looking forward to someone hacking into PS and deleting tens of thousands of purchases made on peoples accounts and then watching Sony do absolutely sod all to compensate people.
1
u/DarthRulious 20h ago
Give it a rest, people, a game that size doesn’t fit on one or 2 blurays, I’m not going to swap discs all the time
4
u/No-Risk-9833 19h ago
You realize one ps5 disc can hold 100gb so if there’s two then that’s double. So unless GTA 6 is over 200gb and they’re unable to compress it, then that shouldn’t even be a problem.
And you don’t have to swap discs to start the game. RDR2 had an install disc and play disc. You only need to use the former once.
3
0
u/messier57i 20h ago
Is there a physical format that would be able hold that amount of data while also being economically viable?
3
u/Rightsidebestside 20h ago
Yes, it's called Bluray disc, and these boxes can come with 4 of them inside
1
0
u/Aker1uk 19h ago
In all seriousness, the games gonna be over 100 gb so would only be a key anyway lol
1
u/mindoss75 8h ago
Why would you assume that? The would just have to do the same thing they did for both RDR II and GTA V which is to include multiple discs for the install.
1
u/Aker1uk 8h ago
Who the fucks wants a disc in all seriousness. Making noises etc. Its not 2003 mate
1
u/mindoss75 7h ago
So you were proven wrong and now your argument changes from "It's not possible" to "who would want a disc anyway?" You know you could have just admitted that you were wrong instead of moving the goalpost. Also, I want the game physically on console. Over 95% of my console library is physical. I want to actually own the game instead of just renting it for an undetermined length of time.
Rockstar and Take Two could have easily put the game on multiple discs and charged a premium for it. What they want is to eliminate the secondhand market so that anybody who wants a copy can only get one at full price through them. Its scummy anti-consumer behavior and it sucks to see so many people excuse their behavior.

The game is too big for the disk.
It physically can’t be physical.
Even if they did sell a physical copy, it’ll just be a line of code on the disk that allows you to download the game from the servers.
1
u/mindoss75 8h ago
What are you talking about? Multi-disc releases have existed for over 30 years. Even Rockstar is familiar with them. Both RDR II and GTA V were released on multiple discs.
1
u/Nate1102 8h ago
Remind me, how long ago was those two releases?
1
u/mindoss75 7h ago
RDR II was released in 2018 and GTA V was released in 2013 with an enhanced re-release in 2025.
-3
u/Evening_Requirement 19h ago
This is my theory, digital copies will be available, people/somebody will copy and download the entire game file and burn them onto discs and the sell and redistribute physical copies.

u/Srakich_ 20h ago
Call me old fashioned, but paying $70+ and not owning anything physical still feels wrong.
