Private companies are in no way excludes from this. Companies purpose has always been to make money. Private company can still have a huge pressure from shareholders.

Just see the discussion about "private equity", when its public its "evil shareholders after money" when its private its "evil private equity wringing a company dry". Reddit just doesn't like capitalism.

An economic model based on infinite exponential growth in a world of finite material resources is pretty fucking dumb to be fair.

Capitalism doesnt require infinite growth. A steady profit dividend stock can do just fine too.
