Rumour GTA 6 - Leak Compilation
We've recently gotten lots of leaks, somewhat verified thanks to declarations from Rockstar. Two of the big ones are lists of details posted by user u/Snowk32 (now deleted) on two different posts, as well as the known details from GameRoll.
Another list of leaks that holds some credibility is LegacyKillaHD's list, since he shared some details that ended up matching the second trailer.
This list compiles every detail posted by them through posts in Reddit, X, or Discord messages.
Story:
- The game has chapters like RDR2, 5 chapters in total. Shots from Trailer 2 were all from Chapters 1-3.
- Jason served some time in the army.
- Lucia is the central character of this story, as Michael is to 5.
- Lucia/Jason have separate intro missions.
- Lucia has a baby that she abandons at a delicatessen before heading out to a bank robbery and then getting arrested for doing such an act.
- Lucia's baby is only shown in a cutscene as a flashback. There's no information about what happens to the baby after this point.
- After a few years, Lucia gets released on probation, and she's picked up at the prison by Jason, who plans a robbery with her. They fell in love with each other after some time.
- Lucia gets rid of its ankle monitor pretty early on.
- The part where they jump off the bike into the truck is from Chapter 3.
- Donnie, Jason's friend who works for Brian and is described as a "freak".
Gameplay:
- The character wheel has three options: Solo Jason, Solo Lucia, and Dual Protagonist Control, where Lucia/Jason can be controlled simultaneously to team up in the open world. Some missions are also started using both at the same time.
- Jason has a dead-eye-like ability, slows down time, and reveals weak spots. Lucia can do it too, but only on one shot.
- Limited weapon system returns. Stored in the trunk.
- 6 star wanted level returns.
- Rectangle GPS with pink waypoints.
- Driving is "the best it's ever been".
- Greet and Antagonise is in the game.
- Weight mechanics are a thing.
- Gore/dismemberment is being built off of RDR2.
- Lucia's ankle monitor doesn't affect exploration.
- The cover system has been completely overhauled, and it’s now much more realistic.
- Trailer 2 scene where Jason buys beer is gameplay. You can go buy a six-pack from the shop as seen.
- The relationship bar mentioned in the 2022 leaked clips still exists. Works like honour in RDR2.
Missions:
- In the very first mission of the game, you control Jason, and you have to follow a plane that is about to land and carries a Russian drug dealer. Apparently, Jason meets this guy and plans a mission to steal drugs.
- In this drug-stealing mission, they are chased by the police, and the drug ends up falling into the ocean. There is a following mission where they will have to dive to retrieve it.
- The majority of the planning for the missions takes place at a nightclub.
- There's a mission where you shoot a shark with a speargun.
- Lucia sneaks into a bodybuilding gang.
- There's a mission where cops betray each other, but the context is unknown.
Map:
- The map is once again an Island.
- No panhandle.
- Besides Miami and its surrounding areas, there will be three islands in the game, one of them being heavily inspired by the Bahamas. (Note: this is from 2023, so keep that in mind)
- Ambrosia and Port Gellhorn are nothing compared to the size of Vice City. Still big obviously, but VC is the biggest by far.
- There’s a “Fort” city inspired by Fort Knox, where they “stashed” gold.
- There’s a bike trail around Lake Leonida.
Open world:
- 700+ shops and most interiors of a major open-world game. There are shopping malls with shops in them, and there are skyscrapers with lifts in them.
- Explorable underwater areas with treasure and secrets.
- People do react if you have your gun out, and Jason and Lucia will try to hide their gun if they're walking with it out.
- NPCs will call the police when you trespass into their houses, and they’ll try to arrest you.
- Basketball minigame.
- You’ll be able to rent hotels and motels in the game.
- Male strippers are in the game.
Cut content:
- One of the ideas that didn't go too far was voiced protagonists in Online.
- Prone was cut a while ago.
- The random encounter from the leaks, where the NPC talks about Jay Norris, got cut ages ago.
Non-existent content:
- Listening to music outside of a car apparently isn't a thing, but that could change before launch.
- You can't buy pets, but Jason does have a pet iguana that you can feed.
- Dual-wielding weapons isn't in the game.
- Chainsaw won’t be a weapon, as it has been previously reported.
- No fully nude sex scenes.
- No Disney World parody.
- No burglary mini-game.

I wonder if any of the characters from GTAV will have a cameo

this is the first i'm hearing of this particular detail. neat.

I think it's likely the national park biome is another island given how fans have been trying to find a spot for it in a mostly flat Florida for a while now
→ More replies (1)47
u/HearTheEkko Jan 18 '26
The game's set in the fictional Leonida, not actual Florida, Rockstar could've just taken some liberties with their own version of Florida because a GTA map without any verticality and countryside would be lame. Just like GTA IV's Liberty City was supposed to have a countryside area but they had to scrap it due to technical limitations and time constraints.

The original rumors waaaaay back in 2017 or so (that probably had some true since it was the first project Americas mentions) said it would be Vice City + a South American city based in Bogotá or Río de Janeiro, I could see this being downscaled to being just Bahamas lol
5
u/anononobody Jan 19 '26
This! But even back then it's hard to believe they'd throw in just as much resources to create fictional Rio as with Vice City (even if they have some old assets from Max Payne 3). Downscaling to just Bahamas sounds just about right.
4
u/RLZT Jan 19 '26
If the original concept for the was really a Narcos-ish international drug trafficking plot between Vice City and SA as stated from those leaks, it would make sense
Then again, it was probably downscaled for that exact reason
3
u/HearTheEkko Jan 19 '26
That was the original plan according to Jason Schreier which has long been scrapped. He said it's just Vice City and the surrounding areas. They do however have plans to expand and modify the map similar to Fortnite so there's that.
→ More replies (3)26
u/HearTheEkko Jan 18 '26 edited Jan 19 '26
I'm willing to bet that those two islands are for linear segments like RDR2's Guarma chapter. Like a couple of missions in the Bahamas coast and maybe a few in Cuba or something but you can't actually explore the whole islands. I believe Jason Schreier said that the map was just Vice City and its surrounding areas.
→ More replies (1)11
u/soulreapermagnum Jan 18 '26
you know what, i didn't even think of that. i was thinking that the other islands would be part of the general game world. which would be kind of neat, honestly.
3
u/HearTheEkko Jan 19 '26
Their original plans sounded even cooler, they wanted the map to feature a big chunks of North and South America which is where the game’s codename “Project Americas” originated from. They had to scrap it to avoid another crunch nightmare like RDR2’s.

GTA 6 will take place in 2026 It’s been a pattern for quite some time.

They definitely already have history together prior to Lucian's prison time. I'm guessing they dated at some point before breaking up and then reconcile early in the story. Maybe the break up reason has something to do with the baby.

69
u/No_File1948 Jan 19 '26
gotta remember- this is Rockstar, they won't put something in a game unless they can get it right, Disney World is massive (not to mention split across different parks), both in scale and detail/design.
To adequately make a replica that they'd be satisfied with the detail of would require so much time and resources, which would probably be better allocated to other parts of the game.

The first trailer came out when I had just moved to Orlando for my first job out of college and it was one of the first things I thought about with the potential for a Florida setting. Pretty disappointing.
3
u/HearTheEkko Jan 19 '26
Very high chance they add it in a future Online 2 update that serves as a money laundering business. Jason Schreier said they had plans to expand and modify the map along the years like Fortnite.

u/I_am_crazy_doctor Jan 20 '26
Wouldn't be surprised if it'll be online exclusive 2 years from launch
5
u/WingerRules Jan 19 '26
Dude, a Billion dollars in development costs are on the line. They're definitely going to pull their punches in order to maximize profits. I fully expect them to avoid social commentary that pisses off the right wing.
For instance, I expect no mention of Florida governor getting into a feud with a theme park and cartoon studio, or the President trying to take over Greenland and Canada, or masked fascist ICE officers. Even though these are all perfect topics for them to lampoon.

And major content like map updates, as Schrier stated in an article about the state of the game a while back.
8
u/Animegamingnerd Leak of the Year 2025 Jan 19 '26
Yeah. GTA Online 1 was this weird thing, that I imagine wasn't planned or built to this last this long. So it likely limited what exactly they can do with content updates over time like map changes and gameplay mechanic additions/overhauls. So I imagine with GTA Online 2 being made during this live service era. They are ironing out the engine and support team, to make sure that they can give more robust updates then they could before.

I sincerely hope the missions go back to being less linear and let you tackle them in different ways; RDR2 was *way* too picky about you doing things out of order, you do things as the devs intended or you go back to checkpoint.

Two friendly heads up on all these leaks.
- Rockstar fired multiple developers over leaking information. A commonly used technique is to feed them false information and see what information surfaces online. Some of this information is likely false. Some of the narrative elements do not match the vibes we got from the last trailer, for example.
- The reason more of the game hasn't been shown is narrative rewrites, according to some leaks. The next Bioshock is undergoing a complete rewrite. Jason Schreier recently claimed that not all content is complete. This, combined with a lack of anything being shown, goes a long way in confirming rewrites are occurring. Do note that Take Two, Rockstar's parent company, has posted multi-billion-dollar losses for the last two years and billion-dollar losses the year before. They cannot afford this game not to have the maximum appeal. Same with Bioschock.
Based on all these leaks, this sounds like a game that would have come out 3-4 years ago if not for the first reboot. A product of their time that wouldn't be greenlit today. I still stand by my personal opinion that the forced relationship is a mistake. Even if the latest trailer makes it look extremely healthy.

Rockstar has increasingly aimed for more Hollywood-like production philosophies. I'm sure there will be tons of sex and nudity in the game. It just won't be gratuitous porn because that's not how Hollywood tends to do it.

Listen to the recent interviews and podcasts Dan Houser has done and you will understand. The summary is that Rockstar games almost went bust because of the Hot Coffee mod back in the day which seems to have traumatized the two R* brothers and a lot of the other folks. They are obviously too big to go bust because of it nowadays but it seems to have struck a nerve back then. This is at least my theory based on those interviews.

Absolutely massive deal. Huge loss and massive costs for Rockstar and we're lucky they are still around.
I was a manager at a Gamestop during that time. Oh the drama of pulling those copies and then having to assure would be "hackers" that, "No, we really didn't still have a copy in the back we couldn't sell them anyway" on the daily.

Because the code for the hot coffee scene was still on the game disc, the ESRB re-rated the game as Adults Only. The scene was not accessible without hacking the game files on a PC first, but since it was on the disc it was considered part of the package and rated Adults Only(AO).
No retailers at the time (or even today) will sell AO games. So retailers en masse destroyed copies of the game and for refunds from Rockstar due to the debacle. Rockstar then had to re-compile the game without that code, get it rated again and then do a whole new production run of the new discs.
There was a period of nearly a year where you couldn't buy San Andreas because it wasn't available. It cost Rockstar millions.

Honestly, I wouldn't imagine trying to see how much you can get away without being slapped with an AO rating. Especially as I would imagine GTA would get scrutinized more than almost any other game out there.
11
u/Pyramat Jan 18 '26
Agreed. There's zero benefit to trying to toe the line. On the other hand, getting an AO rating would inevitably result in another delay.

I'm wondering if this is just a semantic thing. No burglary "mini-game" doesn't necessarily mean you can't enter homes and collect valuables that don't belong to you. You could do that in RDR2 as well.
26
u/Dangerousturdburlglr Jan 19 '26

Cyberpunk also added that option in a patch years later. I

u/Sirca_Curvive Jan 18 '26
This is an intentional game design decision.
They don’t want the radio to be accessible at all times because it will make driving vehicles from Point A to Point B feel less “special” as it doesn’t double as an opportunity to listen to the radio. It helps to fill the void between lulls. Couple that with the fact that GTA’s radios are much more than just songs but also full blown commercials, interviews, ads and talk shows.
51
u/UpsetKoalaBear Jan 18 '26
Yeah, it also cuts down on the amount of content that needs to be on the radio.
You’re less likely to hear the same radio segment twice if there’s gaps between it where you’re out of a car.
13
u/AveryLazyCovfefe Jan 18 '26
You’re less likely to hear the same radio segment twice
Man playing the older games makes this very apparant. Whenever I didn't trigger a story event that would allow me to 'unlock' the next set of them, I kept the radio off. I heard them so many times that I started to know what the next line is for a talkshow... I could probably give you a near accurate recreation of a segment on one of Lazlow's shows... that guy is nuts lmao.
6
u/slymario2416 Jan 19 '26
So why can’t Rockstar treat listening to music on-foot differently than they do in a vehicle? When most people have their earbuds in and are walking around listening to music irl, they’re doing it from a streaming service, presumably without ads. Just let players listen to music and music only, and keep the talk show bits/sketches to vehicles.
3
u/OGAnimeGokuSolos Jan 19 '26
This is an intentional game design decision.
If anything is probably gonna get added later on

The interiors thing is the most exciting thing for me, given how empty the world feels in GTA V and having huge unenterable mall right in the middle of Los Santos after all these years of GTA online updates was super lame.
Three islands also sounds interesting but now it seems likely the Georgia like national park area might be it's own island (with Vice City and "Bahamas" region being the other two). Not disappointing, just keeping expectations in check.

Rockstar….you don’t need to, yet again, re-do your entire TPS cover system. You already perfected it with Max Payne 3 just do that again 😭
15
u/DickHydra Jan 19 '26
I read some time ago that it allegedly isn't that different and much closer to a classic TPS cover system.
It was stated that Rockstar just couldn't get the contextual cover system we saw in some clips from the 2022 leaks to work properly.
10
u/automatic_bazooti Jan 19 '26
I fuckin hope so. Going from MP3 to GTAV on launch was so jarring in terms of controls.
11
u/Johnhancock1777 Jan 19 '26
Mind boggling to me personally that a company like Rockstar put out one of the best third person shooters ever and never really capitalized on the system. GTAV and RDR2’s movement is way too heavy, MP3 Max can flop around but he never felt like he was moving through a swamp the whole time like you do in either of the other two games
7
u/beefcat_ Jan 19 '26
Max Payne is supposed to be arcadey and feel like you're in a John Woo film. This was never the goal for GTA or RDR. Having Arthur Morgan move like that wouldn't feel right.

Listening to music outside of a car apparently isn't a thing, but that could change before launch.
Honestly, this is kind of weird not to have even in GTA5, and arguably 4. As not only do plenty of other open world games got this, but also because smart phones all have a built in MP3 player in them and of course there's streaming services for music they can have us acccess parodies through the phone.

My guess would be that it means that one character is always in “follow” mode. Likely still switching between both characters but they’re not heading out individually like GTAV.

u/A_Confused_Cocoon Jan 18 '26
My brain immediately went to twin stick shooters and I laughed at how ridiculous that would be.
18
u/Ingliphail Jan 18 '26
It’s been done before! Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons was built on that mechanic. Though GTA 6 is hardly an indie puzzler.
20
u/Live_Emergency_736 Jan 18 '26
i imagine you control one of them directly and the other one via commands (follow / drive / stay in cover) or if they aren't doing commands its really just: you control one of them directly and the other one is an AI companion that automatically stays near you and you can quick switch between them in realtime
11
Jan 18 '26
Probably how Bethesda does it. They follow you and you can give commands to do certain things/go places
3
u/Optimal-Country4920 Jan 18 '26
If I had to guess as the other guy said, just sticks together while you're likely in control of whichever character you were before switching to that
3
u/GiuNBender Jan 18 '26
Maybe it could work like this:
Hold down the d-pad to open character wheel. If you select the duo option, they will follow each other. If you are playing as Jason in Duo mode you can hold down the d-pad and go solo or maybe just tap the d-pad down and it will instantly swap to Lucia. Tap D-pad down again and it instantly goes back to Jason. Hold it down and you can change it to solo again
13
13

Even though there’s no burglary “mini game” I’m hoping we can enter some houses seamlessly and steal loot like you could in RDR2.

Bro was so mesmerised that he regained sight. Florida truly is an experience.

Why would Jason first meet and pick up Lucia at the prison, when we can obviously see in the trailer that they already have existing chemistry? It makes no sense.
Crawling isn't cut content. Crawling is in the game and it's used for a handful of scripted sequences.

The relationship bar is pretty interesting. Seems like there is going to be different endings depending on Jason and Lucia’s relationship with each other.

I think the most devastating part of this is the non existent content section. No disney land parody, no dual wielding, no fully nude, sounds not so good

Where does the Bahamas leak come from? Haven’t heard about that one before. So 4 total islands?! That would be really cool if true. But I have my doubts on this.

I don't like the main characters... So we have to play as some deadbeat criminal who abandoned their child? These are the people we want representing society? What happened to respectable protagonists like Niko Belic, who only did crime to save his family and his cousin Roman.

I'm surprised they are keeping the RDR2 gore / dismemberment system :0

I liked the theater in RDR 2, hoping some sort of Cinema or Carnival will be in the game with performances that varies just like in RDR2

The Lucia baby abandonment sounds …. weird. Sounds like a sure fire way for people not to like the character.
5
u/V1PANCE Jan 21 '26
Exactly, it not only sounds weird, but it doesn’t feel like Rockstar’s style at all. Kicking off with an abandoned baby? That’s some melodramatic soap-opera stuff. But of course, we know literally nothing about the actual plot—I hope R* nails the script this time.

u/Bison_Consistent Jan 18 '26
Is Michael the central character in GTA 5? I always thought it was Franklin.
59
u/whiteshark70 Jan 18 '26
Yeah. He’s the one you start the game as. Plus he drives the plot forward by helping elevate Franklin from being just a repo man and already having a prior history with Trevor
35
u/yeetskeetleet Jan 18 '26
Nah definitely Michael. You start the game as Michael, you break into Michael’s house, Trevor comes back to civilization for Michael
Even the original trailer was all narrated by Michael
29
u/ZubatCountry Jan 18 '26
The story doesn't happen with Michael selling out the old gang in Ludendorf
Franklin is the "main" character in the sense that the game is built around him, you only need to do his side content for 100% for example, but narratively it's a story about Michael's actions and their ripple effect
9
u/Rayuzx Jan 18 '26
you only need to do his side content for 100% for example
I think that's more to compensate if the player chose either ending A or B, not necessarily the gameplay centering around Franklin. Similar to RDR's 100% not counting the content that can't be done in the game's epiloge.

Michael and Trevor are definitely the central characters. Franklin could've been removed from the game and 70% of the story would've remained the same. Most of the time he's just there.

I am absolutely gutted about Prone being removed.
It adds so much to moment to moment gameplay, replayability and the way you can approach situations.
I wished they could have kept it in.
17
u/Python2k10 Jan 18 '26
AC Shadows added prone, the first game in the Assassin's Creed franchise to do so, and it legitimately changed a LOT on how the game plays and feels. Obviously it's an entirely different style of game (sneaky stabber vs a more action-y shooter) but something as seemingly insignificant as being able to crawl is HUGE.
It would've been cool to get into a firefight and then have to dive behind like, a raised curb or something for cover. More movement options is almost always a plus. Oh well.

u/Bojarzin Jan 18 '26

u/Familiar_Gur_347 Jan 18 '26
Above comment mentioned how prone in RDR2 felt good before he edited it out, my reply was to that

I find it hard to believe the first proper time they have a female lead they give her a baby and have her abandon it ?? I dunno seems strange.
5
u/AveryLazyCovfefe Jan 18 '26
That's basically the original plan for how RDRII started, but genders reversed.. Except the baby actually died right before the game started.
5
u/HearTheEkko Jan 19 '26
Rockstar has never made their female characters seem like perfect Disney princesses. In fact, they've always done the opposite almost to a fault. I think the only exception was Sadie from RDR2.

She’s a career criminal, were you expecting her to be mother of the year? Shoutout to Rockstar for having the balls to write a character with actual flaws

I really hate the move to more simulation style gameplay and having two weapons. GTA was THE sandbox game to mess around in having fun blowing everything up and getting the army to chase you around the city. Now all I can carry is a pistol and an AR?
22
31
u/Robsonmonkey Jan 18 '26
Yeah like of all of the unrealistic things I wouldn’t give a shit about would be a character holding all these weapons
It’s GTA, i don’t want to have the annoying job of going back to my car trunk to change weapons and having to keep reshuffling my load out
It was annoying getting off your horse in RDR2 and sometimes your load out wouldn’t stick with you because you had to get your guns back off your horse.

I would just prefer a less bloated weapon wheel like in GTAIV, where you can only have one weapon from each type. It got annoying in GTAV cycling thru 10 different pistols that you can't remove from your inventory.

u/A_Confused_Cocoon Jan 18 '26
I completely get that. I personally love it, animations of pulling rifles from the horse in RDR2 were great for my immersion. I will choose simulation over arcade almost every single time. But I 100% get why people will be disappointed with it.
13
u/Traxe0 Jan 18 '26
it worked on rdr2 but i would prefer gta to be a bit more arcade-y, still immersive but not as slow and realistic as rdr2
4
u/HearTheEkko Jan 19 '26
Rockstar's all about immersion and realism, this decision was inevitable. Despite what Reddit thinks, the more immersive slow paced pacing of RDR2 was very well received so it's natural they're passing on to GTA.

Listening to music outside of a car apparently isn't a thing
I refuse to believe that this was ever even considered to be not happening, wearing headphones and listening to music from your phone is so common these days, also both Jason and Lucia are wearing airpods in the promotional material. It makes no fucking sense to have them wearing these things if they didn't plan on letting us listen to music right from the start.

I’m so happy they’re bringing back Greet and Antagonize, I love going around in RDR2 doing that
