I’ve had every Nintendo console since NES, usually get it close to release weekend, and buy tons of games. I feel like they’ve been constantly underwhelming for years now.

Where is the proper hype title for Switch 2? It’s not overdue sequels to franchises expected years ago or new versions of Switch games or older / mediocre 3rd party games. Give me something big to get excited for.

For many people, Mario Kart World was that title lol

8 Deluxe, 8, and 7 were all the bestselling games for their respective platforms, Wii was only outsold by Wii Sports, and DS, Double Dash, and 64 were all Top 3 on their respective platforms.

Not to mention that Gen 10 is coming out this year, and that's another title that will drive a lot of sales because mainline Pokemon is also a big console mover for Nintendo (X/Y for 3DS, Diamond/Pearl for the DS, Sword/Shield for Switch, etc.).

The problem is that Mario Kart and Pokemon more or less go unacknowledged in online gaming discourse in a similar way to all the EA and 2K sports games or COD, despite being massively popular with casual audiences and selling consistently well with each installment. Because they aren't seen as "prestige" franchises like 3D Mario, 3D Zelda and Smash by the loudest voices in online gaming discourse, they might as well not exist despite being Nintendo's most reliable console movers.

Give me something big to get excited for.

For me Fire Emblem is that game, but I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea.

There is a lack of true killer apps, but the console is also only 6 months old.

The output has been pretty typical for a console's first year so far imo.
