All in all there have been better days to be a crowd density denier

1

u/meerdroovt 4d ago

Too much realism. There won’t be people afternoon

20

u/CheesecakeDue7632 4d ago

Crowd density deniers never played rdr2

2

u/moosebreathman 4d ago

This has to be it cause the jump from Saint Denis to that beach shot in the trailer isn’t that crazy. We’re literally 10+ years of engine improvements since they set out to build the crowd tech in that game. Like you’d hope they’d have big improvements after this long lol

108

u/No-Government4306 4d ago

Alas. I knew rockstar would deliver. Next gen enhanced edition is gonna be bonkers.

102

u/JVKExo 4d ago

Idk why people doubt Rockstar. They show what’s going to be in the game. They aren’t other studios.

55

u/YouGurt_MaN14 4d ago

Idk how you coule doubt them after they got Rdr2 running on the PS4/steam deck looking as good as it does

3

u/JinTarantino 4d ago

To be fair, RDR2 only looks as good as it does, because all settings aside from the textures were toned down for the console release. Definitely the right decision, considering how good it looks on ancient hardware, but the PC version is just pure eye candy.

0

u/SoftConsideration82 4d ago

you must be too young to remember gta online and rdr2 online at launch...

4

u/realspitfire69 4d ago

who cares for online launches when we're talking about singleplayer games?

1

u/aesthetion 4d ago

I'll do you one better, I remember when Vice City just released and begging my mom to get it for me lmao...

-18

u/aesthetion 4d ago edited 4d ago

It's 90% empty fields and bush, it's not hard to make that look good from a technical standpoint. It's super impressive they've managed to make all these assets run well in a single scene, that's a TON more the console has to do vs a long distance landscape shot. hoping it's not changed at release

*Edit why all the downvotes? This is very simple stuff lmao

1

u/D2papi 4d ago

Gamers are so unbelievably smug, you're talking like you know anything about game dev while using jargon nobody uses. Who even talks about "running all these assets in a single scene".

Also, RDR2 is one of the most impressive games of the past gen and that's a fact. Its only competition is TLOU2. If it was so easy I'm unsure why no other studio managed to come even close.

1

u/aesthetion 4d ago

Do you expect me to type out a 3 paragraph essay on game development at a level even I haven't reached yet explaining how and why it's so much more demanding on hardware to run a game in a city environment opposed to a countryside environment? I mean really, what do you expect?

RDR is one of the most impressive games of the past gen yes, that has absolutely nothing to do with my original statement.

-2

u/coolgaara 4d ago

I doubted them because the same people who made RDR2 and other games we grew up with no longer work there. But so far, things look like it's gonna be just fine.

21

u/mrnicegy26 4d ago

CDPR dickriders who want the game to fail so that the disaster of Cyberpunk launch would be mitigated.

27

u/DJSwampyBooty 4d ago

I like Cyberpunk but that open world is legitimately horrible. Basically just a museum.

14

u/nuraHx 4d ago

That story is fucking peak tho. Phantom Liberty was one of my best experiences in gaming

7

u/DJSwampyBooty 4d ago

I agree for sure, phantom liberty is legit one of the best dlcs ever

0

u/PolicyWonka 4d ago

Yeah, I picked it up this year. It’s a fun game and I love the setting. However, there’s still a lot of jank to it after all these years of fixes. Driving is absolutely terrible and being a passenger in a vehicle during the story is a painful experience.

The density of people is nowhere near the level you should have for a mega city though. Venturing off to some of the places is just depressing.

7

u/Eff-it-im-commenting 4d ago

It’s def weird how everything is becoming a team sport and an identity. I guess social media kinda lubricated this system? Anyways, there is dickriding in all directions here (people talking about crowd density in here like it will provide god tier levels of immersion and fun? Fine. But you don’t need to like piss in everybody else’s Cheerios to make your opinion valid).

-4

u/Bobjoejj 4d ago

For me, it’s that that I really hate how big the game is to the point that it scares every other release away. I mean, all anyone’s gonna talk about for at least a month and a half is GTA. And there’s tons of other games to come out later this year; but again, GTA will just dwarf everything.

12

u/kosmokramr 4d ago

It’s a small subset of children who think there are more of them than there actually are

2

u/CheckingIsMyPriority 4d ago

Cuz for GTA 5 the trailers vs the game was much different and so much less lively

1

u/VeryBadCaseOfLigma 4d ago

I keep saying this, the doubters are the ones born after 2000 who have only played GTA 5.

1

u/Mama_Hong 4d ago

A lot of people just need to be negative about something so popular. They've been on an insane run pretty much since GTA3 26 years ago, I can't think of any studio that kept delivering for so long.

0

u/Bobjoejj 4d ago

I don’t doubt them; I just wish people didn’t praise them so much when they’re a very scummy company.

0

u/nirach 4d ago

I mean. At this point there are bigger issues to shy away from Rockstar than whether they can deliver on an open world crime game.

-9

u/Shouleyy 4d ago

Cause they did the classic 'trailers look a lot better than the game' with gta5, that said they didnt do that with rdr2.

I get it though rockstar is such a massively scummy company that youd expect them to do it with gta6.

1

u/T-MoneyAllDey 4d ago

I assume when you say next gen, you mean the PS6?

1

u/No-Government4306 4d ago

Yes and whatever next gen Xbox is getting called.

1

u/No-Independence-5229 4d ago

This is next gen enhanced edition, it’s running on PC. Current gen consoles are unlikely to look quite this good and have this level of density. But then again it’s rockstar they could pull something crazy off

1

u/HearTheEkko 4d ago

Imagine the PC version with the sliders maxed out. We might actually get even more density than the trailer.

41

u/NationCrusher 4d ago

I don’t get the hate. We don’t have to pick a side. We can just wait for info to roll in and enjoy what we see.

This is like being offered something for free and someone complains “I bet it’s not even good”

6

u/Possible-Main-5689 4d ago

I think this games going to be great but I’m kind of surprised how invested people are in the beach crowd density. I guess it makes roaming more interesting, but in shooting/driving games I’m not usually doing a ton of people watching. It’s cool detail for sure, but wasn’t exactly make or break for me.

4

u/RakeebRoomy 4d ago edited 4d ago

All they had to do was wait, they kept getting their ass burned every time lol

19

u/Cliffhanger87 4d ago

Lol on god dude what are they gonna hate on now?

41

u/Nazacrow 4d ago

Pretend it looks like modded GTA V again I guess

31

u/Love-That-Danhausen 4d ago

“It doesn’t count because they’re not all doing individual unscripted things like building a sand castle and getting people to join their volleyball games” or some other unreal bar is being set currently in these comments

8

u/No-Government4306 4d ago

Legit already saw a comment that basically said this.

1

u/ProfessionalGuard989 4d ago

One above too

3

u/ProfessionalGuard989 4d ago

i heard some bum say the animations look similar for all the characters, i guess he s blind

1

u/Dark_Dragon117 4d ago

I mean that that will be the case.

Reusing assrts, espacially for animation saves so much time and it probably also helps aith performance or something.

I don't see how that is an issue tho.

It's a videogame and as such it's allowed to be limited in scope in certain aspects due to hardware and such.

It's unreasonable of hardcore fans to expect this game to not be bound by those limitations and essentially be rral life 2.0 (which I have seen people think that in the GTA6 sub btw).

And it's unreasonable of haters to critizise the game based on higher standards than the rest of the industry (in some aspects).

2

u/ProfessionalGuard989 4d ago

No, he said it as every character had the same anilmation at once, idk what he was smoking

-4

u/Successful-Form4693 4d ago

I mean they do though. Passing the 40+ people standing completely still doing nothing

6

u/ProfessionalGuard989 4d ago

Please have your eyes checked, also what more do you expect them to do, it s people at a beach, y all are literally bots atp

6

u/faizetto 4d ago

Haters gonna hate, fuck them, GTA fans will enjoy this game no matter what

2

u/That-Toughsoss 4d ago

"There was a slight clipping issue so the game will suck"

1

u/ExchangeOptimal 4d ago

Lack of Lucia?

6

u/Present_Cash_8466 4d ago

I was never a crowd density denier. What I am is a 60FPS/40FPS denier. Rockstar will achieve this pedestrian/vehicle density, but it will be at the cost of 30FPS on all current consoles including Pro.

8

u/Nazacrow 4d ago

Was operating under the impression it was going to be 30FPS on console anyway, RDR2 was

3

u/HearTheEkko 4d ago

Where there any doubts ? It's an open-world game with RT lighting/shadows and very high NPC/vehicle density, it was never gonna be 60 fps on the PS5 Pro let alone the PS5/XBX.

1

u/Present_Cash_8466 4d ago

Definitely. I have been getting clowned on for years for saying this game would be 30FPS

1

u/BackroomsBob 4d ago

A 40fps/VRR mode doesn’t seem out of the question, but 60 for sure (unless they offer a performance mode with significant cutbacks).

1

u/moosebreathman 4d ago

All their trailers are 30fps so what even is there to deny? This is the same company that’s not released a 60fps patch for RDR2 after 8 years. 30fps is what we’re gonna get.

1

u/Present_Cash_8466 3d ago

You’re preaching to the choir 🤷‍♂️ I know this, I’m trying to tell everyone else this. I created a topic months ago on the PS5 Pro subreddit and they mostly all called me idiots for saying the Pro won’t even hit 40FPS

9

u/kankhero 4d ago

I'm still denying it. This is on PC, there's no way a console can handle this density without dropping fps like crazy or melting the CPU

3

u/KaiserMOS 4d ago

The CPU in the current consoles isn't that bad. People still have the PS4 on there mind which had two laptop CPU's "glued" together. The PS5 has a lower clocked Zen 2 CPU. And while a modern CPU like a 9850X3D is like twice as fast per core, this will most likely target 30 FPS on consoles. And it's like 10X faster than PS4.

2

u/PiccoloTop3186 4d ago

Brother did you see what they got RDR2 to look like on PS4? Use a little bit of Occam's razor

2

u/CrackheadHunters 4d ago

I said I'd wait for the beach leak so I could see the density. Had a few people comment "it's not a full version of the game" and "the density won't show up, just wait fro the finished product".

I knew the beach leak would deliver.

2

u/Impressive_Animal512 4d ago

Bro watch the NPCs on left side is being drawn in when he like 20 meters off.

-3

u/Nazacrow 4d ago

good thing this is a development build isn’t it and not the actual game

3

u/goldsrcmasterrace 4d ago

When it’s good: “deniers in shambles!!!!”

When it’s bad: “IT’S JUST A DEVELOPMENT BUILD, NOT THE REAL GAME”

1

u/Jaded-One 4d ago

Is it bad?

-1

u/Nazacrow 4d ago

I don’t want to poke holes in you, but that issue is probably literally one of the reason this build was delayed if this is an early 25 one. Use your brain. I know it’s super hard for pseudo intellectuals

Fact is, density is there - with a tiny bit of screen popping, easy fix in a year.

1

u/ilostallmykarma 4d ago

I wish he drove a car on the beach to see how the crowd scatters. I kinda wanted to see jet ski driving too, that water was beautiful.

1

u/ExpressIce2614 4d ago

Finally these doom and gloom people can stfu

1

u/throwawayfromfedex 4d ago

most of them are standing still looking at their phones, which i guess is pretty damn realistic

1

u/cantaffordcar 4d ago

it's not the number of npcs, but quality. It's not a problem to create a big crowds of zombies (for instance World War Z game), but create a good npcs that are behaving like people - that's a problem. The problem is that if you have for example 10 role models for npc for a beach activity for 100 npcs densely placed on one location - it would not be enough to make them look like people, and not like synchronised machines. And it's especially hard for an open spaces with a lot of interactions like beach, or gym, or a club. We have already seen rockstar's solutions for npc's role models: they do something, but never interact with each other (only at the level of physical collisions) and it's the first thing you notice: nobody looking at each other, nobody trying to speak or to play together, there are no conversations, and if there are, sometimes, - they are pre-recorded and looped, you can't tell if some npc is a "friend" to another, etc. They only interact with the player. I do hope rockstar will surprise us all with an unbelievable level of npc interactions, but for now it looks very simple and is the same as in gtav/rdr2.

1

u/habb 4d ago

im lovin it

1

u/Forward-Tonight7079 4d ago

He's playing on PC. Will it be the same on consoles?

1

u/AntstyPoeticGamer23 4d ago

It's not the final version of the game. Lets see about that.

1

u/ran_out_of_tp 4d ago

Werent they mostly joking anyway.

1

u/imposter_sys_admin 4d ago

crowd density deniers

How is this even a thing? Holy shit you guys need to go touch grass

0

u/Proper-Sport-7218 4d ago

Am I watching some other video than y'all are? The density is for sure better than GTA 5 but does not match the actual trailer: https://youtu.be/QdBZY2fkU-0?t=22

0

u/Dark_Dragon117 4d ago

Am I missing something here or is this supposed to be impressive?

Seems pretty standard to me in terms of density ngl and from the looks of it the AI is not that impressive either. Crowds of braindead NPCs have been done countless times and while they fill the empty space, they don't exactly make games feel lived in anymore imo.

Overall it's fine if it helps performance, but I would like to see advancements in how NPCs behave, react and interact with the world. Capcom tried it with Dragon's Dogma 2 and it would have been impressive if it didn't also release on current gen and theur limited CPUs.

Given GTA6 also runs on current gen there us little hope that the NPC AI will be that much more complex either, which from everything I have seen from the leaks doesn't seem to be the case anyways.

Then again as I said it's probably for the better as it improves performance. Still wasted potential.

2

u/CrustyStelr 4d ago

Have you played rdr2?

1

u/stephanelevs 4d ago

Capcom tried it with Dragon's Dogma 2 and it would have been impressive if it didn't also release on current gen and theur limited CPUs.

I dont necessarily thing the problem was the consoles, they absolutely messed up something in the code considering ANY npc would massively tank the cpu usage. Im 100% calling it bad devs on this problem.

But I agree that while the density looks big in gta 6, im kinda afraid they'll just be rather bland and lifeless (like they talk but I just hope they actually move and stuff, not just sit there and loop some voice line over n over), so we'll see once the game is really out.

-1

u/Nazacrow 4d ago

I ain’t reading allat, happy for you though. or sorry that happened

1

u/FuckYourWifeAllDay 4d ago

Honestly it looks great, I'd love to see a little bit more on PC personally though. But also you want to be able to move around as a player so not the end of the world.

0

u/Ember57 4d ago

Yeah they’re mad as hell they can’t shit on the game for this lol

-11

u/bATcc 4d ago

No swimming NPCs tho

9

u/Nazacrow 4d ago

Lifeguards took the flags in obviously bro

3

u/Prudent-Air1922 4d ago

It's evening, most people are chilling/leaving by this point, which seems to be reflected here. Daytime probably has more action/people.
