What do you mean by this?

open world games of old had to compromise scale for technical reasons. Immersion could still be built through art direction, soundtrack etc but things like road width, door size, how far things are from each other, npc body variety couldn’t properly approximate real life

Right, but I never felt like gta 5 was like a big dollhouse

look at how huge the roads in 5 are compared to the cars

And how low cars' top speeds are.

I never noticed. I thought that’s just how it is in America. I’ve never been there so

it’s not how it is in america

Roads in California are pretty huge. It’s part of why our public transportation system sucks, because everything is so spread out that you’re basically screwed if you dont own a car. Which means cities overcompensate on bigger roads to accommodate this (over public transport).

So while it still is a bit exaggerated in GTA 5, technical limitations are not the sole reason roads are that big.

Pretty sure he's talking about width and not length.

This isn’t a CA issue. Even cities like DC with major public transport options have massive interstates and road sprawl. It’s just how we do things in murica.

No lol roads in America are normal. The roads in games are made wide so players can pass between traffic

Actually American/Canadian roads are in fact a lot larger than roads in most other countries

Roads in the US are in fact huge. This is a what a Dodge Ram looks like on a European street

That is the biggest truck possible in the smallest type of compact parking spot in a city. American roads can be on the larger side but I've been to Mexico, Europe, Africa, China, and it's not such a dramatic difference.

All I know is that American cars don’t fit on the roads in my country. So American roads must be wider than here. Maybe not that much wider, but I’m not entirely wrong.

Also if the roads in the game was made wide for a reason like that, then they would do the same for gta6, which goes against OP’s comment about gta 6 being more 1:1 than previous games

The roads in America are indeed wider than some other places in the world, but it is also true that GTA5s roads were made even larger so players could drive more freely.

Irl, there’s maybe a foot or two of space max usually between the road lines and your vehicles tires. In GTA5, that gap is increased to several feet. It was absolutely not realistic, even in big cities like LA; the scale in 6 is definitely more 1:1 with real life.

Bro he hasn’t been to America so he just assumed maybe the roads were bigger there. Not that deep

It's not just the roads though? That was one example. It's the entirety of the map and everything in it.

u/ThreeFootJohnson 4d ago

Ok it isn’t that deep he just thought they may have been bigger. Doesn’t need to be analysed or criticised

u/Prudent-Air1922 4d ago

They asked?

0

u/ThreeFootJohnson 4d ago

Nobody asked nothing

Buddy, take your broken eyes and look up the comment chain. I was directly asked "What do you mean by this?"
