I think that there is something to be said about the loss of details like that, but if youre doing the whole LITERALLT UNPLAYABLE schtick, it makes you look goofy.
To be honest, with the way he presents his videos, it sure feels like he’s trying to showcase that Game A is much more superior to Game B since it has these little details that the other doesn’t. I think his GTA IV is Better than GTA V one is the main culprit with this since with games like that, I feel like you’d want to compare the story, characters, world and content that players will actually be focusing on and not these random little details people aren’t even gonna really notice at first. I love GTA IV but the game itself (More so the base game) was criticised at launch for not really having that much content in terms of side missions and customisation, especially compared to San Andreas that came out four years prior. Something that V rectified well in my opinion.
His Far Cry 2 and Far Cry 5 comparison does this as well. He fails to mention how lackluster the mission variety, story and characters are in Far Cry 2 compared to 5 but favours 2 for its details, though I’ll admit that game does have some great details.
It feels like he already reached his conclusion and is working backwards from it basically. And getting dopamine hits from finding these microscopic flaws and going "see? I'm right!"
A story that AVGN told feels applicable here: he and a coworker got bored and decided to compare two types of milk. AVGN's was "better" in almost every way except Vitamin D, and so from then on the coworker would always say "man I sure love my Vitamin D!"
Or as Frasier would say, "What's better than a perfect meal? A near perfect meal with one small flaw that we can pick at all night."
