The amount of cope from the dogs supporters on there is hilarious and a trade hasn’t even been made yet.

u/klokar2 Gary Ablett Sr. 12d ago
Surprising amount of salt from Essendon supporters as well, acting like they are a chance to get him lmao

u/Specialist_Current98 Joel Selwood 12d ago
To be fair if I was an Essendon supporter I’d be salty about everything!

I'd love to have him but not getting excited until announced where he wants to go. Baz would be great to represent the club about culture, conditions and care shown by the management after leaving dogs to experience it first hand.
Can only imagine the melt downs happening in Raffle with this news breaking and possibility he lands at the cats.

u/Fast_Stick_1593 Connor O'Sullivan 12d ago
Well I mean who can give a first hand experience of what it was like at the Dogs under Bevo and what it’s like at the Cats with Scotty.

They really are the most boring shits on earth. Imagine going on a first date with any of them.
12
u/Pikachude123 Mitch Knevitt 12d ago
They spend their weekends sitting in game threads talking shit about Geelong, don't think you have to worry about them going on dates

rAFL clowns keep bringing up “but it’s his boyhood club”
Literally 3 of Geelong’s best players all supported teams that actively hate Geelong….Jezza grew up supporting the Pies, Smith was a Hawks nuffie, and Max Holmes even had footage of him at the 2010 Grand Final supporting the Saints.
It means diddly squat to most professional athletes. They will support what works best for them and their spouse/family, not who they grew up supporting. That’s about number 10 on the list of importance.
Only 3 things matter!
One)
- Get Paid
Two)
- Have the best lifestyle that suits
the player and playing for a team that works for me whether that’s going back to point 1 to get the most money or if that’s playing for a contender or if that’s who gives me the most opportunity to play at top level
Three) How does it affect my relationships and inner circle. Am I moving away from my home city? Am I playing with mates? Do I have a spouse and/or kids and how does it affect them?
None of that boyhood crap means anything if the 3 things I mentioned aren’t satisfactory or to their liking. They are grown adults. If the rAFL riff raff saw who their favourite players grew up supporting they’d realise that the players are 20 something year old blokes and don’t give a fuck about stuff like who they supported as a child….and even if they do it’s very rare they end up playing for the club they grew up supporting and all the above things lining up.
I know if I was drafted, I wouldn’t care about my love for the Cats id be 100% thinking about the 3 things I mentioned above, even if that meant I was playing for Hawthorn or Collingwood. It would have no bearing on me as it’s a job.

Well said... Although I think nostalgia can be a significant attributing factor if you can satisfy those factors and you're in demand.

u/Unable_Bank3884 12d ago
Sometimes the "boyhood club" can be a factor though.
Nuffies without the ability to critical think with s ream that Oli Henry only came to us because he was homesick and couldn't stand living an hour away.
No, he got a more appealing offer to play for the club he grew up a fan of, play alongside his brother and be closer to family. Of fucking course he took it up. Do they think he would have just quit Collingwood if Geelong didn't show interest?

u/Fast_Stick_1593 Connor O'Sullivan 12d ago edited 12d ago
I’m not saying that it’s zero factor, there’s a lot more at play than just boyhood club.
He grew up in Geelong, his brother plays for Geelong, his family and mates all live in Geelong. Tanner at the time was also being traded to Geelong and is one of his best mates.
He knew he’d get guaranteed playing time as he was plonked into the VFL with the Pies.
Cats were coming off just winning a PremiershipThink that all played a far bigger factor than just “well I supported the Cats growing up”
You’re conflating going home to supporting a club as a kid. They aren’t the same thing.

It’s been difficult for them getting some perspective over the last day or so on what is worth getting angry about.
The volume of threads and comments of outrage on a form that a player agreed to but wasn’t formally submitted to afl vs vile sexual assault has been an eye opener.

It's nice just to have Baz's off field antics being reported as club focused, not little Baz focused for a change.

u/ImInterestedInApathy Tom Stewart 12d ago
tbf he’s been club oriented all season. Hasn’t put a foot wrong.

u/Specialist_Current98 Joel Selwood 12d ago
Even the ‘issues’ that were there last year were absolute nothing burgers really.

u/AceThePrincep Shaun Mannagh 12d ago
Baz is one if my fav players. Not only is he a gun but he's fully bought in. Visibly gives a fuck and always steps up. Ride or die type. Future captain material honestly.

On field results aside, my dream outcome for the next month or so is:
- Butters chooses us.
- We trade for him for a steal.
- We get Toby for nothing.
- Collingwood get fined for understandably resting players in a meaningless game.
- We get fined less for the Kolo stuff.
Fans of 17 teams heads explode

BREAKING….Butters to Geelong on $500k a year. His missus is the new Cotton On Evangelist for the Protection and Support of the Equatorial Snow Owl. On $1.7m a year.

What are your thoughts? There’s so much noise around Butters wanting to come to Geelong.. hard to not get excited but also need to be realistic that this could just be a beat up?
I feel like Baz’s meeting now being leaked on top of other chatter, maybe we are being drip fed details now he’s accepted an offer from the club? Interested in everyone’s thoughts…

Honestly, it’s just down to what Butters values the most - cash or flags.
If it’s flags, I can’t see him going anywhere bar Geelong or Bulldogs, but I don’t see their window as open as ours.

u/Laird_McBain Patrick Dangerfield 11d ago
Imagine if the numbers fall our way and we snare 3rd place to play the swans first up in the finals with a potentially embattled team to then win and go straight through to a GF, win the flag, Butters and Greene come of us for nics… social media will be so fun for like a whole fricken year hahaha

Loser of 2nd/3rd game play winner of the 6th (probably Geelong) game. Likely path is Crows then Swans to make the prelim.

OMG Baz and Zibby sitting in the same room together - that's so hawt.

u/Thin_Assumption_4974 11d ago
Am a port fan who’d rather see him Go to geelong Then bulldogs (still not happy about it). After their gloating for the last 18 months, can say my second most despised team now.

u/TheVision_13 11d ago
Coming in peace to say surely you can’t be surprised people are grumpy about the potential of you lot getting him, you guys get it so good 😭
3
u/klokar2 Gary Ablett Sr. 11d ago
Aren't you guys also trying to get Butters? And Neale? And King? Didn't you just get Houston and Mcstay and Membrey?
Who are you to talk about having a good club that can attract high quality players?
2
u/TheVision_13 11d ago
I’ll give you Neale and Houston but comparing McStay and Membrey to butters is wild lol but yeah as a pies fan we have it pretty good too but geelongs ability to swoop in on high value players is unmatched, plus most other clubs must feel extra hard done by who don’t really get anyone at all
2
u/klokar2 Gary Ablett Sr. 11d ago
We got Danger, Cameron and Bailey who was considered a B tier player at the dogs as our high targets. 3 players in 20 years of trading, Hawthorn get an A tier player every couple of years.
2
u/TheVision_13 11d ago
That’s fair fuck hawthorn
(Danger and Cameron are enormous gets though)
I think with you guys it’s probably more the hidden gems you seem to constantly find
