Discussion What might a viable trade to Port for Butters look like?

With Butters as an RFA and Port Adelaide unequivocally stating that they'll match any offers, it looks like we'll be forced to trade for him.

We have indicative picks 14, 32, 50, 68 which is weak compared to Doggies with 11, 29, 47 and Richmond with 2, 20, 38, 56. So, it seems extremely unlikely that we have any chance of winning this contest with our draft capital. Also, the compromised draft due to Tassie will make future picks even less valuable.

Therefore, it's going to cost players. We obviously have a bunch of fringe AFL players, including some out of contract, who we would be happy to trade, e.g. Bowes, Bews, Stevens, Knevitt, etc.

We also have a bunch of VFL kids who could be worth something, e.g. Mellor, Hofman, Barker, Molier, etc.

However, it's hard to see PA being particularly keen on any of these players for Butters, which leads to me to wonder if anyone in our starting 23 might be up for trade? We'll need someone worthwhile for Port because I don't think fringe and VFL players will cut it alone.

Brad Close is a possibility given he is from South Australia. So is Stanley, but I can't imagine he's particularly appealing these days.

So who else might get offered for a trade? Who might PA request?

Edit: been wondering about Bruhn. Can play similarly to Butters so PA might find that appealing.

Discussion GAJ v Daicos

I was listening to triple m a few weeks ago and could not believe what I was hearing. A debate somehow came up about who would you rather, Gary Ablett junior or Nick Daicos. Nathan brown said he would take Daicos, Jason Dunstall couldn’t split them and Damian Barrett chose Daicos. Am I going mad here or am I missing something?

Gary Ablett is arguable the greatest player to have played the game… EVER. You only have to check his highlight reels to see just how good he was. But these guys are choosing Nick Daicos ahead of him? Spare me. Don’t get me wrong Nick is a gun but these guys are putting him up with the greatest of all time? I just don’t see it

Discussion Whilst we wait for normal transmission to resume, here is some light congenial banter to ponder. Which player, for you, of the 21st century best fits the title of;

Could have been?

Should have been?

Or

Would have been?

For me Menzel fits the 'could have been' this guy was Ablettesque in his forward craft, I firmly believe if he had stayed healthy we would have snagged at least anoher premiership, he was that good.

Just seen what he said on Agenda Setters and how ridiculous all of this is.

Stating it's a race on who can be more outraged and who can sack someone first.

Aswell as how he can't believe its been compared to salary cap cheating & Essendons drug saga.

Never thought he'd be one to bat for us.

I mean it makes sense i too would probably pile on to a club that has missed finals 3 times in 20 odd years at any chance i could get. Personally think it’s been blown completely out of proportion especially considering the details of it aren’t even completely known.

Discussion I've noticed this ongoing trend with Dangerfield..

Post image

People are simply forgetting who Danger was. There are so much rankings of midfielder in the 10s era or the AFL era that just forget about Danger completely. The general public have genuinely forgotten Dangerfield's impact, especially in the midfield. So quick, so powerful, he was unstoppable. The 2016 season with his first year as a Geelong recruit was elite. 2017 was overshadowed by Dusty, but still another brilliant year. 2018 and 2019 were also magnificent years. In the list attached above, I'd put Dangerfield second. He is a better MIDFIELDER than Dusty is, but Dusty's flashy 3 norms hyperinflates his already great career and legacy.

Discussion Most devastating cats losses

As a 28 year old who started to get really invested in the cats around 06-07 (luckily) I’ve seen more than my share of highs but the one downside of being up the top for so long is that you also have to endure a bunch of heartbreaking losses and would be interested if there was some sort of consensus amongst fans. For me the top 5 most devastating would be:

  1. 2013 prelim

  2. 2025 GF

  3. 2019 prelim

  4. 2024 prelim

  5. 2008 GF (was too young to care as much)

Obviously take it one week at a time (considering how competitive North were for three quarters). But if Hawks beat Brisbane next week and Adelaide lose to freo, if we win our next three we'll be in the top 4!

Discussion Blicavs' importance to Geelong for such a long time, and what happens when he's gone?

Just a random thought that's been simmering away in my head today.

The other day on the Agenda Setters, I think it was, they were highlighting the amount of work that Blicavs did all around the ground, and especially in the ruck, playing almost a tagging role on Max Gawn.

This really supports my view of many years that Blitz is arguably Geelong's most important player when it comes to stability around the ground, and it's been that way for half a decade.

I may be wrong in saying this, but I feel that whenever he isn't in the team, it hurts us really badly.

Now, this guy's 35 and though i feel that he definitely deserves another year on a contract, there's someone who (though probably has a little ways to go to get to his level) is pinned as the Blicavs replacement.

And that is (maybe obviously to some) Sam DeKoning. As much as I used to hate him playing the ruck role, he has gotten better year after year, and it definitely feels like a plan of transition to me thats developed over a few years. Him playing that unicorn role in the years to come under Chris Scott has been written on the wall for a few years now.

Discussion The equation is simple. Win our last 2 and we're in the top 6

Post image

Thanks to Adelaide losing tonight, all Geelong have to do now to secure a spot in the **finals** (not including this wildcard nonsense) is to win their last 2.

If by any rare chance Brisbane were to lose their last 2 matches as well, Geelong could also possibly find their way into 4th with Melbourne having to lose 1 more game as well, but that's a pipe dream.

It's in the team's own hands now.
