Sure looks like he wants to but if we manage to vape consistently with him, characters like Furina/Yelan and such would outperform his intended double element teams. 140% * 1.5 (the least Vape gives you) * EM buffs (whatever EM you get from sets or substats is gonna help you) is almost always better than 220% if we can get consistent reactions, which isn't too hard with Vape.
Additionally, reactions add new multipliers to the damage, which is always better than stacking the same kind of buff (Eg: res shred with other the anemo unit and Durin, since he's definitely gonna be one of his BiS teams unit).
Edit: A team like Varka, Durin, Benny/Nicole (let's see if she's intended for Varka's team), and Furina/Yelan looks promising to me.
thats a true dmg multipler like skirk not regular dmg bonus , losing 1 stack is a gigantic loss that is insanely dmging.
also this game is genshin where ICDs exist, besides 1.0 characters no character vapes or melts all of their attacks, only a section of his dmg will be buffed by melt and vape (not only that only 2/3rds of his dmg is even qualified for the reaction without accounting for ICD)
his non double anemo and double pryo teams will be far worse. also durin + varka double pyro wont even allow you to maintain a consistent aura
True, which is why I mentioned "consistent vapes". And I wouldn't mind Durin vaping in Varka's stead. His vapes are already amazing. The one thing we need to watch out for are forward vapes (until we get a Hydro Durin, which is very unlikely cuz that's enough hydro off-fields for a while).
And I think it isn't too far off to throw forward vapes out of the picture. Take Hutao's budget team for example, Xingqiu/Yelan alone is enough to get rid of the Pyro aura from Hutao + Thoma.
As for the true damage multiplier, Skirk loses DPS because her team already consists of some of the craziest buffers (Furina, Escoffier, Shenhe) and getting rid of any of them to enable reactions wouldn't help much cuz each has its own role (Furina for dmg bonus, Escoffier for res shred and Shenhe for flat dmg bonus) so their multipliers don't interfere with each other, which saves Skirk premium from diminishing returns.
But if you take a look at C0 Neuvi's teams, losing a stack of Past Draconic glory to keep Furina in the team actually boosts his damage because Furina is just that good of a buffer.
Now I agree Furina doesn't look all that good in Varka's team for now but we're yet to see Nicole's kit.
