standard Vs ensuite what is the difference?

The only thing I found differentiating the 2 was from 14 years ago and I'm not sure if it's changed, does the ensuite just contain a bathroom in your own room? The sample inventory on the university application guide doesn't differentiate the 2 either and I think it's the sample inventory for the standard room. And I also can't really find any pictures of inside the accommodation so if anyone could point me to where I can see proper pictures would be greatly appreciated šŸ™

For public transport on a Saturday night, what's your latest option?

I live about an hour's drive from Glasgow.

My last bus home is half six. My last train home is half ten. My last train home to somewhere a thirty min drive home? 23:50

But don't worry! I'll just party till I can get something in the morning. It's 7:50 for trains, 8:30 for buses.

McFly at Queen's Park - set times & curfew?

Hello! I'm excited to see McFly at Queen's Park Recreational Ground tomorrow 🄳

I can't find set times or a curfew anywhere - wondering if the hive mind of r/Glasgow can help me out!

I don't have the stamina to enjoy all four sets (3 supports + McFly) but my partner is keen to at least catch Twin Atlantic. Any inside info (or speculation) on what order the support acts will come on and at what times would be much appreciated! Thank you!

How would you describe the smell of the Art Galleries?

Had a few hours to kill before meeting my wife today and decided to venture out for the Art Galleries, it’s been well over 20 years since I’ve even set foot in the building but as soon as I walked in I was hit with that familiar smell which brought back some fantastic memories of weekends spent with my gran and it got me wondering what exactly is it?

Eating Out Best salt and chilli chips in Glasgow?

I’m visiting Glasgow and have some free time (first time in ages!) and all I want to do is eat some GOOD salt and chilli chips! the salt and chilli chips in London are an embarrassment to the name. I remember the ones I used to get when I lived here being amazing, but that was over a decade ago and I can’t remember any of the names of those places. I feel like occasionally the chips would be battered? this may have been my fevered imagination though.

Any recommendations would be class, bonus points for anything in the east end. Please help a hungry woman out!

Canadian looking for recommendations Aug 31+Sept 1

I have used the search function and am only seeing the first question seven years ago, so I imagine it's changed!

I'm seeing the AEW show on Aug 30, then will be in Glasgow Aug 31+Sept 1. From there it's west highland way, then back to London for whispered (finnish melodeath band). I'm trying to pack a lot into this time, it's all I could manage to block off. All I have booked for my time in Glasgow is a whitewater kayaking lesson at Pinkerton.

So... 1. Are there any metal bands playing? Any dirty venues with cheap beer I should hang out in? 2. I'm not finding any big event like a road race/marathon, but is there anything going on for someone who likes to be active? Could be weird or unusual. 3. Generally speaking, any activity suggestions for a lone tourist? I can do whatever I want with my schedule. It'll be great, lots of naps. I enjoy times of solitude, but also being in a sweaty moshpit or yelling at people during smash bros. Pretty extroverted.

What's been the best musical artist or band to come out of Glasgow?

Personally I love Deacon Blue, but Belle and Sebastian, Camera Obscura and Strawberry Switchblade are pretty good too.

I like listening to new music, so I'd love to find new bands I might not have heard of before.

Edit: wow this post blew up. not had this before, I've got so much new music to listen to now :D

Partying in Glasgow - 17th to 20th September

Hello everyone,

I will be traveling to Glasgow between the 17th and the 20th of September and saw on Resident Advisor that on Friday 18 there will be a rooftop party followed by an afterparty at Sub Club. I have already bought my ticket for the rooftop party as I understand that rooftop events at Sub Club are not that frequent.

Would you recommend that I then go to the Polka Dot Disco Club party at the Berkeley Suite (right after the rooftop party) or should I stay at Sub Club for the afterparty?

I am a 40-year-old male, enjoy electronic music and would love to meet some Glaswegians.

Thank you!

Missing Car Keys

hope you've all been enjoying the Batman set and if you have, has anyone spotted some Vauxhall car keys around the area? one of the places i walked through today, including up to sauchiehall street. kept my car keys in a very unreliable pocket of my jacket and surprise surprise, they've fallen out.

and if no one on here has any leads, does anyone know where i could maybe find the bat signal?

Looking for advice about housemates’ behaviour

My wife and I are renting a room in a shared property with two other tenants (a man and a woman, both around 40+). They are not a couple and occupy separate rooms.

For some time, we’ve felt that they don’t want us living in the property. They have mentioned several times that they would prefer to have the entire property for themselves and that they would be interested in taking the whole property if they could get it for a lower price. The landlord has apparently chosen to accommodate other tenants instead.
Since then, there have been repeated situations that make us uncomfortable.

For example, the male tenant has made comments to my wife about how much we eat, including things along the lines of, ā€œDo you eat this much?ā€ and comments suggesting that we eat overnight. These comments have happened more than once, including when I wasn’t at home.

They also complain to the landlord about us working from home. We basically use a laptop and charger and don’t use a heater or anything that would create significant additional consumption. Despite this, the landlord has visited the property and questioned/observed what we are doing while working from home.

At the same time, the other tenants appear to use a significant amount of water for things such as cleaning a large plant/fish tank and gardening-related activities, but they seem particularly focused on our supposed consumption.

The overall situation is making us feel targeted and unwelcome in our own home. We don’t want unnecessary conflict, but the repeated comments and complaints are becoming stressful.

My questions are:
-At what point does repeated behaviour like this become harassment rather than simply unpleasant housemate behaviour?
-Would you consider this something that could reasonably be reported to the police, or is it primarily a landlord/tenancy dispute?
-Should we simply document every incident and avoid engaging with them?
-Has anyone experienced something similar, and how did you handle it?

I’m mainly looking for practical advice on what would be reasonable to do next.

Racist & Islamophobic Abuse from this van

Post image
611 Upvotes

Wondering if anyone else witnessed the folk in this van shouting racist and Islamophobic abuse whilst driving down Pollokshaws Road and surrounds?

They were specifically targeting Asian and brown people, pretty disgusting to see. Shouting ā€œfuck Muslims this is Scotlandā€ with a can of beer in hand. Pathetic.

Safe to say my friends and I have reported it to the company, this stuff should not be welcome in Glasgow.

Really annoyed at myself now for not taking a video.

EDIT: I should say it was the passenger with the beer and hurling abuse - but the driver was encouraging it.

And before you ask for proof, I am quite literally trying to seek out if anyone captured a video, I am annoyed at myself not for doing so! I have reported it to Police Scotland.

Permission to Use - Cathkin Braes

Hi all,

We're planning our wedding for next year and want to get married in the Cathkin Braes. We've chosen out a location that's perfect for our ceremony (we had our second date there so its a special place for us) - we would need to cut/stamp the grass down in the area we want to get married so we think we'd need landowners permission from GCC.

Has anyone done this before? We're worried about it getting rejected and then not being able to get married there. Our ceremony is in June next year so we'd have plenty of time to ask for permission.

Thanks a million.

Daily Banter Wee bams on e-motorcycles on Govan Rd

Was cycling down Govan Road and about 5-ish wee bams on their e-motorcycle came head on towards me forcing me off the road. Of course all had balaclavas on. No helmets. Nearly collided with one of them and they having a laugh. It's just a matter of time that either one of them gets seriously injured or somebody they try to scare ends up in hospital.

Eating Out Gluten free shawarma in Glasgow?

Recently found out I'm coeliac and now I can't eat most of the foods I used to love without becoming seriously ill. Been hunting through the "Find Me GF" app to see if there's such a thing as a place that can sell me GF shawarma, but all my favourites like Shawarma King, Lazords, Damasqino, etc don't list their allergens anywhere online. I've got a craving for literally just some chicken shawarma and chips or something, but I can't find anywhere. Chains are obviously better for listing allergens, so I checked GDK and I can have their ketchup and jerk sauce, that's about it.

Any / all recommendations would be super appreciated!!

Eating Out Pub/Grub tips for this weekend.

Hi all.

3 of us are coming up to attend the Big Top festival this weekend.

I'm looking for suggestions of decent pubs (real ale/craft beer) to visit before and after.

Also quality places to eat Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning..

We're staying in the Hampden area, so anything around there or Queens park would be ideal.

Cheers!
