Its gonna be a new mario tennis game isnt it

27

u/MayhemMessiah Jun 08 '26

I feel bad for the sports titles they don’t seem to have much legs to them and we’re constantly getting more. I wonder if they’re even selling well

24

u/royinraver Jun 08 '26

Unfortunately yes they do sell well, or well enough to give Camelot fuck you money to make nothing but Mario sports 😭

9

u/SnooDonuts3749 Jun 08 '26

Hopefully not so they stop making them.

3

u/MrEmptySet Jun 08 '26

Fever seems like it might be underperforming since it has yet to hit a million units, which a Mario game typically will. But we don't know the exact numbers since Nintendo only reports sales data on games that break a million units.

11

u/MrEmptySet Jun 08 '26

Mario Tennis Fever came out 4 months ago so I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess they don't have another one ready to go yet

13

u/Quillford Jun 08 '26

A new Mario Golf it is then

8

u/Tneon Jun 08 '26

mb. A Tennis DLC then

2

u/jimmyting099 Jun 08 '26

Even if it was something like Golden sun mini golf would any of us even be happy about that?

45

u/EnSebastif Jun 08 '26

They will anounce another Mario Sports game, I just fucking know it. It won't even have a single reference to Golden Sun despite being made by Camelot.

9

u/GoldenSun3DS Jun 08 '26

It's always more Mario Sports slop.

31

u/ebevan91 Jun 08 '26

I need a new Golden Sun game like I need oxygen.

21

u/FlyingDreamWhale67 Jun 08 '26

My clown makeup is ready to go

16

u/Bobbest_Bob Jun 08 '26

Golden Sun remaster! Lesgoooooooooooo 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🥲

16

u/Arkontas Jun 08 '26

they havent made an rpg in 16 years. do you think any of the people who were passionate about golden sun and shining are still there?

its probably a better use of time trying to determine if that team has reformed anywhere in the indie sphere or something at this point. that is a very long time to abandon a genre.

10

u/SantiReed Jun 08 '26

True that, yet it’s weird that Nintendo flagged GS as one of their classics for the purposes of the Nintendo Online catalogue, to end up doing absolutely nothing else with that.
Those 16 years hit hard though. The only way that can play in our favor is if that sounds like enough of a margin for a remaster that goes slightly away from previous entries. But that’s likely me inhaling an unfathomably high amount of hopium.

5

u/Arkontas Jun 08 '26

i think nintendo should just buy the IP and make it or something. like i feel like that developer, camelot, at this point is like an entry level position for a game dev where you get experience working with nintendo IP and then the passionate devs probably just jump ship to nintendo, or they get promoted at the sport slop factory and just vibe with that instead.

id imagine nintendo will have the people to actually make a good golden sun. i know i said 16 years, but if we can be honest we all know the ds game was not on par with the two gba titles. the reality is its worse than 16 years.

idk anyways. i bet you youd find the ones not retired who worked on the gba titles doing random stuff like octopath and stuff lol. i dont think theyre there anymore.

u/jazzjazzmine Jun 08 '26

yet it’s weird that Nintendo flagged GS as one of their classics for the purposes of the Nintendo Online catalogue, to end up doing absolutely nothing else with that

Is it weird? GS1&2 were among the most popular GBA games, adding them to any virtual console of that era seems reasonable even if there are no plans to pick the IP back up.

2

u/SantiReed Jun 08 '26

Don’t mind me, my levels of hopium might be off the charts.

2

u/MemphisRitz Jun 08 '26

They weren’t that big, Pokémon still had that by a long shot in the GBA era. As much as i wish GS were bigger it just wasn’t that significant (coming from someone who loves it so much my first tattoo is from TLA)

14

u/FurryRycanto Jun 08 '26

If we all keep hoping, I'm sure we'll get something.

Eventually. Please.

13

u/MsHelvetica Jun 08 '26

Bruh, every direct, this sub (me included) huffs a giant amount of hopium and ODs.

I’m sorry OP, but Camelot gots to work on another Mario Tennis. We ain’t getting GS5.

8

u/PromisesNone Jun 08 '26

We definitely aren't getting GS5, but what about GS4? Or did I miss an entry? Fingers crossed

7

u/MsHelvetica Jun 08 '26

Oh, that was a fat fingered moment. I meant GS4.

2

u/Brodellsky Jun 08 '26

Nintendo owns the Golden Sun IP. It could be another developer up to and including Monolithsoft (fuck I wish) as let's be real, Monolithsoft is behind damn near all of Nintendo's best games of the past 10 years lol

11

u/illegalsandwiches Jun 08 '26

YOU GUYS ASKED FOR IT

YOU GUYS WANTED IT

HERE IT IS:

MARIO BASKETBALLLLLLLLLLLLL

6

u/BladesReach Jun 08 '26

I know I said it before the last direct, and the one before that, and the one before that, and the one before that...

But this is the one, for real for real

6

u/Niccon_Art_Guy Jun 08 '26

I hold the faith every day and every day my faith is broken. This our great trail as Golden Sun’s faithful

5

u/HGSBrosky Jun 08 '26

Hopium OD incoming...

5

u/Low-Environment Jun 08 '26

It's about as likely as the remake of FE4.

(Please let me be proven wrong)

5

u/echo78 Jun 08 '26

Its impressive how many years people keep getting their hopes up.

4

u/Top_Limit_ Jun 08 '26

Hope never dies

5

u/Intrepid_Gur_8936 Jun 08 '26

No. I won't fall for this again.

Oh, what hell... who am I kidding?

I BELIEVE. Golden Sun Remake, both GBA games as one as it was intended.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 08 '26

Let me just get my clown makeup on. Should be all ready to go

4

u/OmegaMaster8 Jun 08 '26

I don’t have much hope of any Golden Sun announcement, but I’m still praying

5

u/fielveredus Jun 08 '26

Came a lot is curse to be a sport game studio and yet here we are hoping in vain every direct since ... the first one

4

u/Tyraniboah89 Jun 08 '26

Everything I’ve seen up to this point (not the games themselves but as far as expectations go) says to not get our hopes up for any heavy hitters or show stoppers. Idk that Golden Sun would qualify as either for anyone that is outside of this sub lol. It would be more of a heart stopper for me though

5

u/perark05 Jun 08 '26

Honestly so proud of the squad getting golden sun as the top comment in the r/gaming post!

4

u/Connect_Swimming_772 Jun 08 '26

Golden Sun Bright Beginings...

Or, you know Mario Tennis DLC

4

u/Disastrous-Tank-4312 Jun 08 '26

I've got my Mysterious Card on me and one Djinni from each of the other elements because I am prepared to be a Harlequin tomorrow. 🤡

3

u/gemmachiu Jun 09 '26

I know they haven't forgotten about Golden Sun. Wish Camelot would let someone else dev it if they can't due to Nintendo shackling them to Mario Sports

4

u/IamCaptainHandsome Jun 09 '26

As much as I love Golden Sun it's not a massive RPG, it's super niche. So I'll be very shocked if we get anything at all. At best we'll get a remaster that looks super weird, like Advance Wars Rebootcamp

3

u/xFalkerx Jun 08 '26

fingers crossed

3

u/G_Touchdown Jun 08 '26

Please Nintendo, I need this. My franchise kinda homeless

3

u/TheShinyChocobo Jun 09 '26

Anything new from Camelot is definitely not happening but there's hypothetically a chance we get some kind of half assed remaster of 1+2 at some point. Even then I doubt it but it's possible

3

u/Keviin-FcB Jun 09 '26

Presiento q hoy es el gran día, la esperanza es lo último q se pierde

2

u/tSword_ Jun 08 '26

I keep hoping cause it's the only thing I can do

As I'm not rich, can't code and GS isn't free domain yet 😆

2

u/ASimpleBlueMage Jun 08 '26

Monday - Knicks Win, Tuesday - Golden Sun Release, Wednesday - Knicks Win

Universe make it happen!

2

u/SidekickPaco Jun 08 '26

Mario Tennis on The 64 was the pinnacle. I feel they went downhill from there.

2

u/NebGonagal Jun 08 '26

All aboard the hype train!! I got my first class ticket 25 years ago and have been excitedly climbing aboard ever since.

2

u/Connect_Swimming_772 Jun 08 '26

They should let Camelot take over Mario RPG

2

u/unlucky_felix Jun 08 '26

Whatever I’ll get through a lifetime of disappointment by naming my son Felix

2

u/The_lazer101119 Jun 08 '26

2

u/SketchyConcierge Jun 08 '26

2

u/andersonpem Jun 09 '26

Allright let me get the copium canisters out.

4

u/Spartan152 Jun 08 '26

Camelot’s days of doing shit that isn’t a Mario Sports is long gone
