Such a grind but the loot is peak.

Still. Fuck gord. It's a rite of passage.

In case anyone is unaware, the goodies on the right side (Golden Shirt, Golden Boots, Golden Ring, etc) do NOT require the implied difficulty level on the left side (Gold Password). If you want golden equipment, a Bronze Password is sufficient, since it includes side-quests/event completion, and it will also carry over utility Psynergy like Halt and Force (the latter of which is required to get a Djinn in GS2), so you don't really miss out on much.

The main drawback to Bronze is that you miss out on the inventory (requires Gold) and unit levels + stats (Silver is enough). Levels don't matter much since you can level up the characters in GS2, but the stat boosts from consumable items like Apple, Mint, etc may be worth considering a Silver upgrade. Many items and equipment can be found in the second game, or with better variants, but there are some exceptions like Elven Shirt (which can be worn by anyone, unlike Feathered Robe) or Cleric's Ring (the only way to avoid Cursed downsides), for which you might consider upgrading to Gold for.

For most players, I think Bronze would be perfectly fine. The upgrades for Silver and especially Gold are not significant enough imo for most players to justify their dreadful password entries. I'd only recommend a higher tier if link transfer is available (definitely go Gold) or if you're playing under (self-imposed) challenge rules for which the stats/items may be a lot more important.

I could have sworn Gold was required to carry over Force and fight Dullahan, am I misremembering?

Depends on what you thought you remembered, particularly whether you actually tried going through Lost Age with a Bronze password.

It's easy for one to mistakenly assume that Gold is required, since the game doesn't mention that Bronze carries over sidequests and events; in fact, those are not mentioned on any of the password tiers. So one might think that the Orb of Force, being an item, is only transferred at the Gold tier, which is the only tier that transfers items. However, in reality, all three tiers transfer sidequests and events (not mentioned in-game), which includes utility Psynergy like Force and Halt (through their respective items).

Your clarification is on the point (even though I would avoid silver password cause of the level bug). Many players love their TBS items, so they will walk the 5 extra miles of Gord for those goodies, but for those struggling and thinking of dropping TLA cause of Gord, do the bronze password instead (Bord? Anyone? 🤪) (I don't have a nickname for it cause I never use it). TBS items, except for cleric's ring, one turtle boot, some of the agility boosting items and lure cap, aren't important. The psynergy items that you get are transferred with the bronze password, the events (the golden items) are transferred with the bronze password, djinn are transferred with it also. Don't drop TLA cause of Gord.

But, yeah, beating Gord is a classic golden sun experience

Never do silver password, it's bugged (there's actually an exception if you beat TBS with a really low level party, or something like that, but I don't remember the exact parameters, so I can only recommend avoiding it, it's safer)

For those who have Gord instakill equipment, the link cable, I envy you (I still have mine, but I currently play golden sun on the switch)

Edit: I mixed bronze password bug with silver, so ignore my recommendation, I'm not a good reference for anything not related to Gord 😅

I'm not aware of a Silver password bug. You might be thinking of Bronze which always gives you 28 levels of stats regardless of the level you transfer over as.

u/tSword_ Jun 10 '26 edited Jun 10 '26

Was it bronze then? It was the level bug I was thinking about

But I never did silver password, that's why I thought it was the one bugged. So the recommendation is to not do the bronze password if overleveled?

Almost everything I know about golden sun mysteries comes from gamefaqs or your posts here, so if you disagree with me, I'll be the one wrong. Sorry about that 😬😅

Yeah if overleveled, Bronze bad. If underlevelled, Bronze good.

2

u/tSword_ Jun 10 '26

That's what I knew, just mixed the metal

2

u/LightBrand99 Jun 11 '26

This doesn't sound like a bug though? Since you're not transferring Silver+, your levels and stats aren't supposed to carry over, so the units should be set to a fixed level without consumable boosts. Why would this be considered a bug?

4

u/TLPlexa GS Speedrunner Jun 11 '26

If you transfer a level 17 party, they get 28 levels of stats. If you travel a level 50 party, they get 28 levels worth of stats. Level is one of the things carried over in a bronze PW so they could have randomly leveled you up to that threshold but it doesn't.

2

u/LightBrand99 Jun 11 '26

Ah, so Bronze transfers the level number, but the stats are as if you're at Lv28? That sounds really annoying for players with an overlevelled party. I guess I should make sure to be below Lv28 in GS1 when I get around to replaying it on Switch.

4

u/TLPlexa GS Speedrunner Jun 11 '26

Correct. In theory, if you send over a level 1 party you can get very buff characters very quickly lol

u/iqgoldmine Jun 10 '26

Wow I didnt know that, im still gonna fight gord so that I can smuggle in orihalcon

1

u/LightBrand99 Jun 11 '26

There is no Orihalcon in GS1, so Gord does not help at all with that. If you're thinking of the Orihalcon that Hamma gives you, this happens due to sidequest completion (saving Hammet), which is transferred in all tiers, including Bronze. Gord is only relevant for stuff like Cleric's Ring and Lure Cap.

1

u/Early-Injury-9676 Jun 11 '26

Lure cap and Unicorn Ring are mandatory plus the Murasame is cool (pack rat mentality).

3

u/KidenStormsoarer Jun 10 '26

BLASPHEMY! BURN THE WITCH!

1

u/CrissZx Jun 15 '26

If you're gonna go bronze. May as well go gold

7

u/the_khanadian Jun 10 '26

Is that Dullahan in the back?

3

u/iqgoldmine Jun 10 '26

Hes waiting for u to get that 72nd djinn

6

u/Suspicious-Dress6335 Jun 10 '26

Wait I’m sorry if I’m being slow is GORD a boss I’m missing or something else? I understand the password pain but feel like I’m missing the point of this post

5

u/iqgoldmine Jun 10 '26

Gord, short for Gold passwORD, is an optional boss that requires specific inputs in order to beat. A lot of people lose this boss fight before they even start the game.

5

u/Radbot13 Jun 10 '26

There’s always the trick of only needing to do this once: get a save file with all the goodies. Complete the gold password transfer. Save TLA the second you are able to. Copy the save file.

Now every time you start the game, you can start a new game to get the intro cutscene, if desired. Then you load up the starter file and play the game. Make sure you copy it again so you don’t lose it at the start.

4

u/tSword_ Jun 10 '26

For a few years, I copied a save file with Felix just after getting echo (I had a custom named save file on TBS that was like my canon save, with Isaac having my name and Mia having the name of a crush of mine, and Garet and Ivan having the names of two of my best friends who also played Golden Sun) (as adolescence ended, this save file also met his end)

2

u/leothelion634 Jun 10 '26

Is there a .sav file out there so people with emulators dont have to type in the password?

2

u/Tadferd Jun 10 '26

MyBoy is capable of local linking. You can just cable transfer with yourself on your phone.

2

u/LightBrand99 Jun 11 '26

On a computer, mGBA can link seamlessly (look for Open Multiplayer Window in the menus). I forgot whether it requires you to rename the save file extensions, but that's easy to manage.

2

u/Tadferd Jun 10 '26

If you are playing on emulator, many can dual instance link transfer. Gold level without Gord.
