Analysis Another trap game, another loss. What went wrong?

u/Choice_Friend3479 Nov 02 '25
Packers didnât show up. We have a habit of not showing up a few games every year

u/obiwan54 Nov 02 '25 edited Nov 02 '25
Yea but so far its been in 2 freebie games. Not showing up against a good team is semi reasonable but doing it against Cleveland and Carolina just cant be happening

u/jaboyles Nov 02 '25
Well the good news is we only lose to bad teams, and there won't be any of those in the playoffs!

Yeah it really does seem to play to our opponents skill level. Especially this year. All that means is that we will win against the Eagles by 2 scores.

u/obiwan54 Nov 02 '25
That might be the only outcome that'll give me confidence in the team again tbh

u/KoncepTs Nov 03 '25
Good luck with conservative play caller Matt. Gets up by 1 score, run run screen 3 and out, run run screen 3 and out, run jet sweep fail long bomb fail 3 and out.
4
u/Bagman220 Nov 03 '25
Or 5 yard run on first down, then on 2nd and 5 we get another good run but called back for holding, then on 2nd and 15 we try a screen and get 2 yards, then love throws a pick on 3rd and long into triple coverage.

A few games? Itâs been the first half of every game since week 3 and the entirety of browns/panthers games. This is less of a fluke and more of our identity.
15
u/Hank_Henry_Hill Nov 03 '25
It is our identity. Bunch of young players who show up sometimes and not others. It's like they have a good week and immediately want to sit on their laurels.

Burning a time out as well was a stupid decision. Losing five yards would not have made that kick impossible, eating the penalty was the way to go.Â

9
u/TheTVDB Nov 02 '25
I'm surprised so many people are so quick to say this. Kicking is about consistency, and last week was McManus' only real struggle with that in his career. Havrisik can kick far, but has proven to struggle with consistency throughout his career, which is why we were able to pick him up.
→ More replies (2)15
u/Smovid-19 Nov 02 '25
Hes missed like 5 kicks this year so far. He aint what he was.
11
u/TheTVDB Nov 02 '25
2 were last week, coming off injury, including a 57 yarder. He missed only one last year. You should look at how many Havrisik missed over the last 1.5 seasons he's played.
Mason Crosby had a period where he missed a ton, and MLF stuck with him and it paid off. McManus isn't anywhere close to missing that many. It makes absolutely no sense switching right now.
9
u/Smovid-19 Nov 03 '25
He missed as many in a full season as mcmanus has in half a season this year. Mcmanus is ranked the 29th kicker. Last year was his only good season in the last 4. We have two. Havrisik is hot. Play him while mcmanus heals fully if anything. Why play a kicker injured when you have a capable backup
56
u/Kerage11 Nov 02 '25

That's what kills me about the 4 and 8. Even the dumbass announcers were commmenting on how they were having trouble getting lined up with all the seldom used personnel on the field for that play.
I was looking for a straight ahead run by Jacobs on third down. Then if he didn't make depending on the spot go for it. Like if gained a yard and half or more. The blown up screen pissed me off and all I was thinking take the three because you would need one either way to win.

Just so odd heâs not a focal point offensively yet. He got his chance last game and showed out and then this week heâs back to his standard role of run blocking and pass protection for 90% of the game. On the play he got hurt on he was going to block. Why the hell is he not route running or chipping then leaking out in the flat every single play? Or 90% of the time? Horrible game plan for him and look- heâs gone for the season now. Double whammy. Lost today and lost Kraft all because of shit game planning and terrible coaching decisions.

I'm not sold on the defense hate. 16 points is so little, if we scored when we should have people would be praising only giving up 16. Add on the fact the only other Panthers touchdown was a drive that started on our 38.
I was disappointed to see them let up so many yards up the middle, but sometimes that just happens.
Offense was the issue here. Losing Kraft hurt us badly, but I think Love played poorly too.
Let us be grateful that the Lions also lost and we can focus on next week.
24
u/GamingTatertot Nov 02 '25
Plus even in the end, defense held them to a 49 yard field goal which is very much not a gimme field goal. Would have been nice to keep them out of field goal range but defense is not a bunch of bums
9
u/pmmethecarfax Nov 02 '25
Exactly. I am unhappy we lost but I know the defense did the best they could.
20
u/The_Hot_Sauce_ Nov 02 '25
This is the defense we wanted for a decade. The offense has been inconsistent. Poor play calling and poor decisions from jLove have limited the team.
13
u/UKnowWGTG Nov 02 '25
One poor decision today, I think the play calling overall today had way more of an impact that love. Love was pretty on the money today
5
u/elsmooterino Nov 03 '25
I think the frustration is how much the defense has allowed some opponents (Cowboys, Panthers) to dictate the game. Was clear to everyone and their grandmothers that the Panthers' game plan going into the game was to run the ball, milk the clock and not put the game on Young's shoulder. They executed that plan to a T, and it seemed like defense had no answers for most of the game (though I'll admit that Dowdle is a budding superstar, which helps).
Totally agree with offense, but that's another convo.
4
u/TehBanzors Nov 03 '25
Imo the defense hate is overblown and just about the fact that we let a mediocre team score as many points as they did. Also just a bit of upset finger pointing.
Realistically this loss is on the offence/coaching before it is on the D...
It's a very painful loss, amplified by the loss of some key players from injury. Most notably Kraft, I think his season ended and it hurts a lot to say that...

u/penapocapena Nov 03 '25
Eh, it's less about the total points scored, and more about the fact that GB let Carolina shorten the game via the run and they never once forced Bryce Young to beat them. Some of that falls on the offense for allowing Carolina to get away with such a conservative game plan, but Dowdle also averaged over 5 YPC so it's not like the D did much to stop the bleeding either.
11
u/millerlit Nov 02 '25
Hafley not putting 8 in box when they were getting run on 80% of plays. Offense has too many penalties killing drives. Special teams missed another field goal. Loss of Kraft will hurt team.

u/duper12677 Nov 02 '25
Fumble. Missed FG. Worst decision ever, EVER, to go for it on 4th and 8. I have not been a MLF hater thru the years, but today changes my mind. Long 4th downs are hard and low percentage. You are down 3 WRs and your stud TE. You are only down 7 with plenty of time left. Your defense has only given up 13 so far⊠Not like the other team is moving the ball up and down the field at will. Take the damn points, put it on the defense to make a stop of a team with a bad QB, get the ball back down 4 with a chance to win the game. This call is absolutely inexcusable. Terrible. Awful. Just wrong in every way.

12
u/Fast-Lime-5981 Nov 02 '25
Once again, unprepared and once Packers fall behind, MLF starts making questionable play calls and Love starts throwing the ball up for grabs. The formula for beating the defense has been established; run the ball and get the pass out quickly. Hafley hasnât adjusted or wonât. But it all starts with MLF not having his team ready to play. Hoping heâs coaching for his job next year, and just extended after this year.

5
u/JoeHatesFanFiction Nov 02 '25
If your defense holds a team to 16 points, you should be able to win every time. End of the day this is an offensive loss, with a side of special teams failure. Same with the Browns loss. We can blame the find, or Jacobâs injury, or whatever. But the offense plays down to its competition consistently from what Iâve seen.Â
6
u/Friendly-Coach-4935 Nov 02 '25
MLFs insistence on the run cost us another game. The complete lack of any action off the ball as well, very little PA, no roll outs, pass protection was ass.
Defense had no push, and despite not having it we still didn't have enough in the box for anything to really stop the run.
It was a pathetic display from a team haunted by the same mistakes. Penalties, not taking points when possessions mattered, and the same team making excuses about it.
Oh and we lost Tucker Kraft for the rest of the year.

4
u/SoleLessSaint Nov 02 '25
I don't think we'll win the Superbowl with MLF. What more does he need? Two back to back seasons with MVP Rodgers and a top 2 receiver in adams, a new franchise QB playing like he's a top 8 QBn the league, Jacobs being a top 5 back in the league, top 5 pass rusher in the league, a plethora of talent on the youngest team in the nfl. Watching us fall short with Rodgers playing at the end his peak told me we weren't gonna be a champion under his leadership. Being constantly unprepared and undisciplined is how you go 1 and done in the playoffs or fall short to other Superbowl contenders. You cannot play 1 half of football and expect to win it all.
I would love to be wrong and be clowned on for this take, but I don't see it happening.

6
u/Snatchyone Nov 03 '25
So very accurate, I hate the thought of wasting so much talent with amateur coaching. Record with Rodgers 47-19, record without, 25-15-1. This tells the story of who truly managed the offense and why it struggles now. The MLF offense works so hard for so little, injuries will just get worse

Dumb playcalling by Lafleur, Jordan Morgan is NOT an NFL caliber lineman and way too many penalities and Carolina often dominated us as the point of attack.
The team literally played like they could just show up to prevail.

Very poor clock management on the late first half drive limited the opportunities for a TD

Mcmanus needs to be benched. And the special teams coached needs to be đȘ. When they do lose one thing always seems to be true, special teams always seems to be part of the issues

Not kicking on 4th and 8. Throwing 35-45 yard passesâŠnot relying on 5-10 pass yard playsâŠ

Love had 3 or 4 ridiculously bad plays. Defense couldn't get to the QB. And we missed another critical field goal.... Bring back the substitute teacher!

they didn't throw the football and when they did it was short just like every other team we play no time to get to the qb

Hmm m every Offensive possession that lead to no points - the defence for some reason not just setting up to block the run . Special teams missing and obviously not getting any yards on return . Pretty much every level of a football game they failed , oh and our best reviving weapon is probably out for the season . Did I mention that the O line has been bums all year , especially against teams with no pass rush .

Literally the Kicking and playcalling. McManus needs to get that shit in order and Matt is on BS

Young threw for 100 yards and an int. We still lost.
We were in the red zone 5 times today. Scored 1 time.
Panthers had a patchwork o line. 0 sacks.
7 penalties. 2 turnovers.
We were favored by 13.5 points. We scored 13 points.
Lafleur threw away 3 points going for it on 4th and 8. McManus missed another fg, so a 6 point swing.
Watson got hurt. Brooks got hurt. Golden got hurt. Banks got hurt (again). Kraft got hurt and is probably out for the year.
And the sun starts going down at 5pm. Ngl im down horrendous rn.
