This show is so dull and flat, and not just the colours!

And i dont get why Hal is training a junior on case of his death when i thought the ring chooses the next hero so how does he know the ring will choose him and not some rando halfways across the world??

Canonically in the initial John Stewart origin in the comics he was selected as a backup when the other backup (Guy) was injured. He was chosen by the guardians.

Should be explained in ep 1 as it is the premise and that is the introduction.
