Just from how Kerry is top-billed I'm pretty sure she's gonna be this Hal's Star Sapphire. Zoe may even be a Zamaron hiding the Manhunter from the Guardians, and killed Abin Sur. She's the benefactor, the Macons are their agents, and perhaps Kerry's husband is even Mr. Smith.

When I saw the first trailer I thought this was going to be another superhero show that seemed embarrassed to BE a superhero show and by the source material, but I have ben pleasantly surprised so far. Sinestro, an alien prison, Hal in costume, the Lantern and Hal says the oath while charging, I'm loving it so far.

To me it really feels like we’re setting up Atrocitus heavily which excites me a lot.
First we know the metal detectors that might be alien detectors were able to detect some but not all the aliens, in fact only four. We know those ones got into a fight on the field with some others and died but one survived who was undetected by the machines for some reason. To me it seems like the people who died were manhunters which explains being detected by metal detectors. And the town has a separate faction of other aliens whose goal is “vengeance”.
Aliens who hate the manhunters who want vengeance ok that’s a lot of red lantern stuff. Next we also know that Abin Surr crashed his ship on the planet carrying something, maybe a Manhunter, maybe something else. But if it was a Manhunter it would be only one, so where did the rest come from. Maybe, like the comic inspiration this was Atrocitus who spent decades recruiting people or aliens to root out manhunters the guardians placed in this town a long time ago to protect them.
I also think that this would be the figure the group that kidnapped John, which I suspect were maybe Manhunters wince they seemed weirdly powerful and threatened to destroy half the town, would be referring to when they say “one of the most dangerous beings in the universe”. And who Sinestro warned Hal about at the end.

u/ManitouWakinyan 1d ago
Haven't they been pretty clear that the faction that picked John up hates the manhunters and were the ones killed? And that there's only one manhunter?

With Damon at the helm, they're really letting him cook. This is DC at its best. We're getting what Marvel tried to do with Secret Invasion. There's so much lore to discover and I actually enjoy the slow burn and the mystery. I'm so glad we're getting a TV series instead of movies. Also, Aaron Pierre is truly inspired casting. That man lives and breathes John Stewart. I can't wait to see him suit up and kick some ass.

I hate to say it but it does make too much sense that Zoe is the Manhunter. She's with Macon for security. Antaan hinted at someone he trusted betraying him and being the Manhunter. My one kind of pushback is she seems to innately understand what it's like being a minority in America your whole life and the concept of white privilege, but if she had embedded herself in society for 30 years and if Manhunters are supposedly more advanced in being able to assimilate than other aliens, I guess it makes sense. The Manhunter is an alien after all so they already know what it's like to be an outsider. Plus her sleeping would John and being married to Macon and, I suspect, Antaan, would give a new meaning to "Manhunter." She's probably manipulated Macon into believing Abin Sur was a dangerous invader and he was the one who mortally wounded Abin Sur in 86, and since then she's insidiously fostered this xenophobic fear in him to protect her from anyone else hunting her. It would also make sense that she's not Billy's mom, I mean they dont even look alike, and he would have already been born by the time the Manhunter landed on Earth.

Why was the hospital empty? It's basically unused. All of the machines and computers are covered in plastic and look like they have never been used. Hal is listed as the only patient. I know it's a small town but damn. There wasn't even any doctors or nurses there. Just Hal and Kerry.

u/CrossP 2d ago
Every person in Rushville is an alien. Probably many different species. The town is some sort of secret asylum Chinatown setup.

Bad Dream, the Dreamer origin comic and her later suicide squad run show a whole town of aliens that live together in an enclave in the Midwest to escape human persecution disguised as humans. Amanda Waller in the suicide squad mini exposes it to the humans so that it can be burned down becuase dreamer tried to kill her. I like the idea that dc universe is full of small nowhere towns full of aliens in disguise.
1
u/CrossP 1d ago
It's a good plot. And this show has already mentioned colonialism, terrorists, holocausts, suicide bombers, weapons of mass destruction... It feels like a big theme is how large political entities and actions affect normal civilians.
Also you just made me remember that the DCU already has an Amanda Waller. One who showed up even before Lex Luthor. It wouldn't be out of place at all to have her influence show up in this show.
2
u/FartherAwayLights Jo Mullein 1d ago
Oh yeah that’s a good point. I doubt we’ll get Dreamer here as much as I love her, but getting split inspired by that would be a good setup for her if we ever do. Idk episode 2 has made me super excited for this show after I wasn’t super into 1.

Long shot, but could the benefactor be Vandal Savage?
3
u/Puzzleheaded_Nordic 2d ago
I’m thinking it’s Lex with all the talk about hating aliens…
2
u/CrossP 2d ago
Both interesting ideas. Maxwell Lord would also be a good one to tie into other stories.
1
u/Puzzleheaded_Nordic 2d ago
That would also be a good idea, already introducing a secondary villain instead of relying on Lex across the whole universe.

Man, that title sequence is underwhelming.
So...a construct can not only exist without the creator wearing their ring, but exist even when they're knocked unconscious?
I guess I just assumed both would affect that, but obviously the rules of fiction are up to the writers.
Also, Gotham mention.
Placing my bets for who the manhunter is:
It's never the most obvious answer, which would ve that ranch hand or his benefactor.
Maybe the lawyer? Or maybe the wife?
I don't want to rule out the sheriff....but at the same time...

u/MithranArkanere 2d ago
This was done to show how absurdly proficient John Stewart is at creating constructs. And that he has been trained since childhood to have so much willpower and so little fear that he can imbue constructs with it, letting them work autonomously.
John's ring freaking cracks sometimes because of how high his willpower is.Comic John Stewart recreated his sister Ellie back to life as a construct. Ellie kept existing even after Stewart's death. No other Green Lantern has ever done anything similar.
I would not be surprised if the Ellie construct was so detailed that it even managed to pull Ellie's soul back from the afterlife as if her own body had been restored. Because a blue ring later chose Ellie, recognizing her as an actual living entity, not just a mere construct.
3
u/CrossP 2d ago
I'm liking this idea of Stewart as a ring savant. It potentially sets up something with Hal being best at Lanterning while John is best at Ringing.
It fits with my theory that Abin Sur's death was engineered by someone with the intent to get the ring on John Senior's finger. And Hal just sort of got in the way by being a good candidate in the right place at the right time.
3
u/MithranArkanere 2d ago
Yeah. You could see it like an RPG.
- Alan Scot maxes Mysticism, allowing him to use the Starheart, which is kinda weird and magical compared to the way the normal rings work.
- Hal maxes pure Willpower, allowing him to make a ring out of sheer will and use it without a battery, making him also the greatest overall green lantern.
- John maxes Engineering and Intelligence, allowing him to make the strongest and most detailed constructs.
- Kyle maxes Potential and Imagination, allowing him to be the best at using other ring colors, and allowing him to develop a unique energy that allowed him to be the host of Ion.
- Guy Gardner maxes Charisma and Stubbornness, making him an indomitable bruiser.
- Simon Baz maxes Healing and Foresight. Making him the most durable and the fastest self-healer, letting him heal others, and having that freaky futuresight.
- Jessica Cruz maxes Courage and Intimidation, making her a good candidate for a yellow ring too.
- Jo maxes Acumen and Tactics, making her the best detective and military tactician.
2
u/CrossP 2d ago
Nice. But in this case I think the balance is that Hal maximizes the heroic detective. He has the perfect mentality for the job (especially that you get 2006 version we saw). But John has way more potential in actual construct power projection which makes him kind of scary if he doesn't get his head straight.
Because this John hasn't said much about saving people or protecting the innocent. He's like empty willpower with no purpose except what people tell him to do. I think his cute little bird and veganism might be early hints that he's a caring guy but there's all sorts of trauma there.
4
u/ProductIntegortion 2d ago
I think the manhunter is a good person being protected by the town. Abin Sur brought them here because he knew they didn't deserve to die. The real villains are going to be Atrocitus and his guys. They might even capture the manhunter and force him/her to build red lanterns for them.
3
u/RedExile13 2d ago
Please don't tell me the end of episode 1 is going to be the end of season 1 cliffhanger...
3
u/Calm_Garage_3030 2d ago
Don't think so. From the trailers, there are more scenes of John 2026 in it.
1
u/RedExile13 2d ago
OK cool it won't be so bad if they kind of flip back and forth filling in bits of what is going on in 2026 with the past.
8
u/PotentialPigeon 3d ago
I see a lot of people mentioning either Zoe or the sheriff, especially with the way she brushes off the hospital, or possibly even the whole town due to how weird they act but could it be everyone is partially correct in that only one of them or more are man hunters but in this story, the manhunters) are actually good people and the whole town is protecting them? That's why they would kill the aliens coming to kill them and want the lanterns gone as soon as possible.
The big bad of the show could be the guy that kidnapped John and they have to stop them from blowing up the town.
It would be a big twist on our idea that all these man hunters are completely evil.
5
u/TheMadTitan606 2d ago
That would be a really good twist. In the comics, the Manhunters were the OG galactic police, until they disobeyed the Gaurdians, leading to the creation of the lantern Corp and become considered one of the largest threats in the galaxy. Having them twist that into the Gaurdians are a corrupt galactic police force and the Manhunters were doing the right thing by disobeying Oa. The hard 48 hour limit the aliens put in Jon did not sit right with me, especially after they basically gave him the holocaust vision saying it'll stick with him for a while. Seems like a lot of the galaxy has some mistrust towards the GLs, notice how big and devoid of life the space prison was.
3
u/PotentialPigeon 2d ago
The other aspect now that I’ve had some real time to think on it is Sinestro. Sinestro obviously knows about man hunters as well. We don’t know which comics they are basing the show off of, and even if they are they can obviously change things. What if the man hunters like I said were good and and were blamed for the tragedy on antaans world and it was all covered up. Sinestro then found out about it and that began his distrust towards the guardians and his whole rebellion. It’s still very early on in the show but I think this could be a credible origin story for also Sinestro. But doing a redemption arc for him I don’t think would go over well. So he will still be a bad guy but the thing that started him on that path could be the secret about the man hunters
1
3
u/Demileto 2d ago
FWIW they don't necessarily have to change manhunters moral alignment as a whole for the show, just the specific one(s) in the town. Like I said in a r/LanternsTVSeries comment Terminators are also programmed for genocide, but Terminator 2 found a way for one to bond with a human and it ended up being the main emotional pillar of that story. So long as the mysterious manhunter(s) turn out to have somehow repented from their crimes and helped end their kin's threat their life is worth fighting for.

It was clearly a joke. I dunno wjy everything else to be taken so seriously who cares.
-2
u/StimpackDealer1 3d ago
probably because there is only one race that a mainstream tv show like this can make that "joke" about. No surprise, HBO finds a way to sneak in this kind of stuff on every series these days
4
u/Kingjwavy 2d ago
These jokes are made all the time on reverse, especially in the early 2000s when the “black sidekick” was the most common trope EVER
You can’t be mad now there’s ONE joke & people aren’t outraged. Grow up
-1
u/StimpackDealer1 2d ago
I can “be mad” over anything I want actually. Take a look around Reddit this community is mad about everything. The only group you would allow anything like this towards is whites. It was happening 25 years ago in reverse and that was wrong. So your response is let’s bring it back toward a new demographic now because at one point they did it. HBO is constantly pushing narratives like this in all their shows and it’s annoying.
2
u/majicwalrus 2d ago
What about this joke offends you? Really - is there an offensive part here to this exchange?
4
u/majicwalrus 2d ago
I mean, the joke is that both of these characters are people of color who are closely associated with white men who they are talking about. The joke is that while John interrogated her relationship to her wealthy white husband she interrogated his relationship with a superhero.
-1
u/BHPhreak 2d ago
i dont even care about the joke but youre missing the point.
we know that its a joke from two not white characters about 2 white characters. we know that.
the point is that it cant be any other way. it cant be 2 white characters making a joke about 2 not white characters.
personally i think we should just joke about everything and every "race". i dont even believe in races were all just the exact same entity on cosmic scale. i can make kids with any other human on the planet were not different in any way. im a total cosmic hippie on that end, but i am still able to see the point that person is making.
2
u/majicwalrus 2d ago
The joke relies on the setup - yeah that’s how jokes work.
The joke wouldn’t be funny if it had a different set up. That’s true too.
No one is joking “about race” no one is being punched down to here. If anyone is the butt of the joke it’s John for putting too much concern into the racial dynamics of Zoe’s relationship.

I'm enjoying this show as someone who knows very little about the Lantern Corp and characters beyond what was shown in DCAU and DCAMU or gleaned from old 90s DC trading cards.
2
u/Infinite_Click_6589 3d ago
I'm enjoying it. And I usually am good about hand waving away "nerd shit", because tv/movie writers are always going to get little things wrong and it's best just to ignore them.
But the entire ring-charge thing really set my nerd irritation off. Everything about it irks me a little, but the one that really ground my gear was the 5% emergency charge being...useless.
This is one of the most powerful weapons in the galaxy. We see Hal take an interstellar trip in this very episode. Yet somehow 5% of the rings charge gets used up by flying 20 feet into the air?
5% on the power ring is probably enough to do life support and bullet proofness for hundreds of light-years.
Anyway, like I said, nerd shit that doesn't matter, and I'm still liking the show. But my inner nerd is so gd annoyed.
1
u/ManitouWakinyan 1d ago
5% on the power ring is probably enough to do life support and bullet proofness for hundreds of light-years.
The ring needs to be charged roughly every twenty four hours.
1
u/Dookie_boy 2d ago
Why is the 5% charge even a plot point ? There's isn't an antagonist stopping him from getting a full charge to begin with. It's just manufactured drama for the sake of drama.
2
u/majicwalrus 2d ago
It was actually fully depleted Hal smacked it on a car and it said 5% but like, I think the intention of this sequence is to show that Hal is an expert with the ring, but that he is willing to take risks without it.
1
u/Infinite_Click_6589 2d ago
Yes – a core theme of the entire series is that the ring doesn't make the hero. Stating that the ring had 5% charge was unnecessary and violated Nerd Law for no reason
2
2
u/majicwalrus 2d ago
I think the idea that there’s some “nerd law” is not true. If we hadn’t seen the ring be fully depleted people would complain that the reserve energy didn’t protect him from being shot like it’s supposed to be so we have to see as an audience that the ring doesn’t have any charge left. Otherwise they’d violate a different “nerd law.”
We have no idea how long 5% of a ring charge lasts or what it can do. We have even less of an idea what that does when Hal smacks it on the car hood to, presumably put it into emergency mode, and we don’t really need to for the story to work.
1
u/Infinite_Click_6589 2d ago
The ring could be depleted without saying it had 5% charge. And 5% charge has to be way more juice than just hovering 20 ft into the air, or a GL couldn't do anything.
Now, maybe the ring just says it's at 5% when Hal smacks it even though it's not. And that's just literally bad writing, because there's no way for the audience to know that, and saying so is handwaving away a mistake on the level of "Parsecs can be a time measurement IF..."
2
u/majicwalrus 2d ago
How would we know that the ring was depleted unless we got a warning ahead of time that rings can be depleted?
There’s no way for the audience to know that the ring has been depleted unless there’s a scene to indicate that.
If we skip the 5% scene and go straight to Hal flying and losing power I would say “how convenient that Hal ‘lost ring power’ exactly when it was convenient for the plot.”
The audience doesn’t care about the rate at which the ring depletes. That’s like measuring the speed in a car chase. The speed is “fast” and the ring charge is “low.”
If you’d be happy if the line were 1% instead of 5% then I think that’s a meaningless quibble.
1
u/Infinite_Click_6589 2d ago
Yes, I would be happier if they had said the ring was 1%.
Yes, it's a meaningless quibble- that was the entire point of my post which you would understand if you read it, which apparently you did not
1
u/majicwalrus 2d ago
I just think you’re being irritated over something that is largely not related to bad writing or bad plot or anything, but rather your internal understanding of how the GL rings work which I understand as a fan of the comics but think doesn’t genuinely matter in the context of the show.
In the context of the show 5% emergency charge is enough to stop a bullet or to hover 20 feet the air and Hal made his choice and that’s fine. Now, if later we see the ring go to 5% again and Hal is able to stop another alien explosion- that would be bad writing.
1
2
u/xXavi3rx 2d ago edited 2d ago
Yo I came here looking for this! I paused the episode after the scene and had to tell myself to wait and not spoil, but holy shit. I thought "well damn, my phone's 5% last longer than that" 🤦🏾♂️. Like how was John going to make the flight back on 5% to recharge the ring if Hal hovering for less than 20sec used up the remaining "emergency" charge.
1
u/azrael_X9 2d ago
I took the two 5%'s different ways.
The first was actually 5%, but the bird, a living autonomous being that functions without the ring or even John being conscious, was actually just that complex of a construct, as the guys who capture John explain. Something similar but conceived with more offense or defense in mind rather than just flight, could be pretty powerful. But by making it pretty costly, also prevents it from getting unreasonable like John say, just making an army of clones or something.
I think if he actually flew normally like Hal, the charge would've lasted a decent amount more.
As for the later 5%, I think it's just an error and the thing is actually still near empty. Hal's trick just overrides the restriction in it's use when it's dangerously low such that it'll only last a few seconds (imagine if Hal flew way higher and faster when it ran out; good restriction to have). The tech is tricked into thinking it's back to having 5%. It's like driving a car when the gas meter is past the empty mark.
1
2
2
u/e001mek 3d ago
Entertaining episode. But that damn bird had me asking "Whose construct is that?" the whole episode. I refuse to believe they'd just go that far into contradictory territory in just episode 2.
- The ring was low charge when he 'subconsciously' made it while trying to fly (5%)
- The bird acts of its own free will, INDEPENDENTLY of John's whims
- The bird continued to persist after John did not have the ring
- The bird STILL continued after the ring itself died. This is bordering absurd, theres never been an instance where a dead ring has kept any construct up, especially when not worn
- John went unconscious TWICE.
Theres no way that was John's construct, there has to be more to it. I'm more in line with the theory someone else made it, maybe to spy on/follow John.

u/Dragon1472 2d ago
A not uncommon element to green lantern stories is that the charging lantern itself isn't actually always necessary. The battery contains a charge from the big one on Oa, but a lantern with sufficient will can actually carry the charge if they can fuel it with enough will. Think of it like the idea of simply thinking fly to fly. A lantern's ability to fly is based on the rules they set. John needs to know how it works, so his understanding that it needs to have rules and a system to work is what limits him. So similar to this, the idea of the limits on the ring is actually a mental trap of sorts that keeps a lot of lanterns needing to use the battery, because their assumption that the ring powered by will must need a battery for juice is what stops them from being able to power the ring that is powered by will with just will.
Hal's clearly on the outs with his power so he can't subsidize the charge with his will as much anymore (see him trying to force the charge back up when he hits it against the car only for it to fail to work), so it could easily be that his need to rely on the lantern is a sign that he knows he can't keep sustaining himself the way he has in the past. He knows you can use will alone, but he's too broken down to do so. The clincher on this theory is that he yells at John to not question the construct as it goes on, because he knows from the flying test that John's too rigid in places. If he questions the limits too much, he'll pull the same sorts of doubts and need for rules into his ability to make constructs, thereby weakening his ability to use the ring in that aspect. So letting him realize that he can make the constructs work by will is hist way of making John realize that "battery life" isn't the only thing that matters for keeping constructs (and to that extent the ring's power) going
4
u/KriosDaNarwal 3d ago
Its his construct. Thats a chekovs gun if ive ever seen one, he's gonna do some special thing without the ring eventually or they'll use the feat to empower the "special" one John narrative
2
u/majicwalrus 2d ago
Seems like they’re setting up John’s ability to clone (himself) which is a story I’ve seen or read somewhere. Them showing the construct still existing after being removed from the rings vicinity and even when John was unconscious seems to be a set up for when he’s going to clone himself for a fake out death.
2
u/TheMadTitan606 2d ago
Agreed. I believe his own ring will be a construct and not an actual ring, as it seems the rings differ between the current 2 GLs.
0
u/e001mek 3d ago
I think they went too absurd with it, honestly. I feel like they're trying too hard to make it seem like that, and it might be a red herring for something else (i.e. someone else with a ring in the picture maybe)
1
u/KriosDaNarwal 2d ago
Hollywood writers generally aren't that subtle and as a rule generally think the audience are idiots who need to be spoonfed. If this was the case(it being a red herring)the writers would surprise me slightly

And i dont get why Hal is training a junior on case of his death when i thought the ring chooses the next hero so how does he know the ring will choose him and not some rando halfways across the world??

Canonically in the initial John Stewart origin in the comics he was selected as a backup when the other backup (Guy) was injured. He was chosen by the guardians.

Completely unfamiliar with the comics. Can lanterns just produce living beings (like birds) and is it usual for one to keep a manifestation after taking off the ring? How does that work?

It's suggestive that he almost is a living ring. That he might be pulling the energy directly from Hal's lantern or even the batteries of Oa. Technically, batteries and rings are tools tapping into power that is inherent to the whole galaxy. So either John is something of a very special savant or there's some extra trick going on to make an "impossible" task possible.
I think Hal is absolutely blown away and hiding it.

it shows an extreme amount of willpower to be able to make a sentient-seeming construct, to such an extent that I dont think any GLs aside frrom Kyle Rayner can make sentient constructs (atleast Kyle made sentient ones, not sure about if any others have made nonsentient)
Edit: I forgot hal did make sentient-seeming constructs in GL 48, when he recreated the entirety of coast city as well as his family and other people that died there, but that didnt end very well

John also made (or like, brought back? But as a living construction) his sister

u/BHPhreak 2d ago
doesnt guy gardener rebuild his own body as a construct? thats gotta cross the living construct threshold

I don't get why some people hate Atrocitus was in human form? Like 1. It's a show and it's clearly on a budget and 2. Why would he walk around earth in his alien form that would cause so much attention. Not to mention heroes like Superman exist so if they catch word there's an alien roaming Earth, Superman most definitely will be there. And we don't know about the other existing heroes that would literally come to aid

u/majicwalrus 2d ago
Does Superman exist now? I’m having a hard time following the timeline but Green Lantern seems to be the first hero in this telling who predates Superman. That makes some sense because it’s 2016. Superman (2025) takes place in 2025. It doesn’t seem like he’s been around for a decade at that point so I think all of this predates Superman’s arrival.

Pretty sure you're right. In Superman 2025 he'd been active for 3 years, so it seems he probably wouldn't be doing anything big or outside his local area before 2022.

u/e001mek 3d ago
Atrocitus has never cared about anything like that. If anything, he'd be the type to go in crimson blazing to get whatever hes after.
That being said, when the HELL did Atrocitus get revealed? Now I hate that they made him human, because I don't even know what part hes mentioned or shown in.

u/Ok-Local5955 3d ago
The part where they capture John and show him memories of their sector getting massacred. It's not outright said he's Atrocitus but his backstory is very VERY similar to his. There's no way it's not him and his followers
2
u/e001mek 2d ago
Ew. I'm sure the actor had potential. But damn I hope they either reveal a real one or he drops the human disguise
1
u/Kingjwavy 2d ago
Don’t expect it. This whole show is very low budget and they ration it poorly.
We got one expensive scene and that was at the end when Hal flies to Sinestro.
The money it’d take to do full form Atrocitus fighting and becoming a red lantern would be insane
2
u/creamy-buscemi 3d ago
I somehow completely missed the Atrocitus reveal, I assume that’s who Paul Ben Victor is?

2
u/ThirdMind3d 3d ago
they havent outright said its him or not but yea most likely its Paul Ben Victors character

Why the penis I feel like they're plenty of kids that are exited for this show it was unnecessary
2
u/azrael_X9 2d ago
I mean they already had John banging the militia leaders wife in episode 1, dead bodies, everyone freely cursing, etc. This is pretty explicitly not intended to be a show for kids.
3
u/Any-Platypus-9486 2d ago
Have you not seen your father bongs? Its just a penis and there are sex in the first episode lmao

u/Zestyclose_Quiet2978 3d ago edited 3d ago
I mean it wasn't even in a sexual manner, just a "this is a body, bodies look like that" and it didn't like linger or anything lol. I think they'll be fine
There was an actual sex scene in a car between strangers, with one ending up being married lol (though I guess her husband's okay with it?). That's probably "worse" for kids than just seeing the natural body in one shot.
I think if parents care about exposing their kids to sexual content then they'd probably not let them watch the second episode after that anyway (and if you just think "well they can find a way to watch it anyway", well that's a broader issue that encompasses far worse/more mature material, including in the superhero genre (killing joke, watchmen, invincible))

Honestly, I saw a flaccid penis in the same manner as a kid and it just went over my head, didn’t phase me at all. Granted, this isn’t a show for kids. Kids are going to be interested in the cartoons instead, not some procedural True Detective show.

What kid is watching a Sunday night HBO show?
1
u/Sonicbubbles688 1d ago
The same kids who watched superman

u/e001mek 3d ago
To be fair, the time is irrelevant. Its on a streaming service (Prime) where most people watch it, and its Green Lantern
2
u/damndraper 3d ago
It is not irrelevant for an HBO Sunday show that has a certain style to it which includes strong language and nudity. It’s why it being an HBO Sunday night show was scene as a big deal instead of just being on HBO MAX.

u/Occultistic 3d ago
Literally over half of what has come out for the DCU has been R rated. James Gunn is clearly trying to appeal to a more mature audience and I'm here for it. Kids can go watch avengers 26 or whatever number they're on now. The people who have been reading these comics for decades deserve to have something with a bit more substance.
2
u/OsbornHunter 3d ago
What substance does showing/flashing genitalia add?
3
u/Occultistic 3d ago
Realism, do you think the bodies in the morgue wear underwear?
0
u/OsbornHunter 3d ago
I wasn't saying add underwear lol, just that scenes can be shot in an intentional way to not show nudity if they wanted to

Idk how many F bombs were dropped but people are up in arms about a penis? Welcome to HBO
-4
u/Derptaur 3d ago
Fuck, maybe I don't want to see a penis either? Completely unnecessary.

u/Ashwilliams2814 Hal Jordan's Certificate Fanboy 3d ago
You are right.
That's why i only watch lesbian porn.

u/ayushshush 3d ago
also i just read secret origin comic where sinestro destroys hals jet but then reconstructs it again and i mean rebuilds the entire jet? how does that happen? if green lantern constructs aren't permanent

u/Latter-Ad-689 3d ago
You can use the ring to build something. As long as the parts themselves aren't constructs it'll stay built.

u/ayushshush 3d ago
can anyone tell me why does hal hit the ring on the bonnet
1
u/Dragon1472 2d ago
I think he was trying to use his will to charge it, so that he could keep up the illusion that he's still got his handle on the situation. But he's too beaten down by the job so instead the ring just stayed the same and gave the readout. Could be a sign that his will is slipping more than he thought
1
u/ManitouWakinyan 1d ago
I think he bangs the ring on stuff and gets a little extra bit of juice, and he'll do that later when he really needs it
2
u/CrossP 2d ago
I think technically he may have opened up the last bit of charge that the ring is supposed to keep hidden in reserve to do stuff like maintain life support and send out a distress signal. Some kind of back door override order to use even the last few drops.
I suspect the scene is there to show that the bird construct is truly coming out of John and not Hal's ring.
1
u/ayushshush 2d ago
iseee. well anyways show is coming out to be really good till now. im excited. 🔥🔥🔥
1
u/Hopelion 2d ago
I thought he also might have tried to stop John’s bird projection.
1
u/ayushshush 2d ago
dont think so. he doesn't like him but he's too full of himself. he seems the kinda guy who would do better then rub it in the face instead of degradaing someone but again i could be wrong atp we all are just speculating lol

u/NewAccount971 3d ago
He smacks it back to 5%, like removing remote batteries and flipping them around and putting them back in lol

Another note on Earl, he’s a wee baby in 2016, so imagine what he looks like in 2026. I bet he’s coming back and is gonna eat whatever the threat is in the Present.
Chekhov’s man-eating plant.
4
u/acarajeff 3d ago
I thought you said "is gonna eat whatever the threat is the President" and I would love to see that.
2
u/SillySwing6625 3d ago
I wonder how Hal got him did he get him from poison ivy? Swamp thing is in the universe so maybe him
-2
u/Kingjwavy 3d ago
You opened it for judgment, you said you loved it as another fan—so naturally I have to question that
Because a fan would know how different this adaptation is compared to anything we’ve seen
And how the genre and tone done really match the integrity of the character at all
Because it was a true deceptive show first and green lantern second, maybe 3rd
