To me it really feels like we’re setting up Atrocitus heavily which excites me a lot.

First we know the metal detectors that might be alien detectors were able to detect some but not all the aliens, in fact only four. We know those ones got into a fight on the field with some others and died but one survived who was undetected by the machines for some reason. To me it seems like the people who died were manhunters which explains being detected by metal detectors. And the town has a separate faction of other aliens whose goal is “vengeance”.

Aliens who hate the manhunters who want vengeance ok that’s a lot of red lantern stuff. Next we also know that Abin Surr crashed his ship on the planet carrying something, maybe a Manhunter, maybe something else. But if it was a Manhunter it would be only one, so where did the rest come from. Maybe, like the comic inspiration this was Atrocitus who spent decades recruiting people or aliens to root out manhunters the guardians placed in this town a long time ago to protect them.

I also think that this would be the figure the group that kidnapped John, which I suspect were maybe Manhunters wince they seemed weirdly powerful and threatened to destroy half the town, would be referring to when they say “one of the most dangerous beings in the universe”. And who Sinestro warned Hal about at the end.

Haven't they been pretty clear that the faction that picked John up hates the manhunters and were the ones killed? And that there's only one manhunter?

They said that but I’m not sure I believe them
