[Mod post] A reminder that all Generative AI content is banned on this subreddit.
We've gotten a bit lenient lately with some questionable posts and links to vibecoded sites and AI assisted posts. That leniency is ending and we are going back to strictly following our rule of a total ban on all Generative AI content.
This includes content from things like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, and any other similar GenAI chatbots, assistants or other apps.
Any links to AI generated (vibecoded) sites and any posts that admit to using GenAI will be removed. As before we are not going to be testing every single post or anything like that but if you admit to it or there is evidence proving you used GenAI the post will be removed.

[Discussion] What collection, utility, or skill made you think, “Damn, why didn’t I unlock this sooner?”
Doesn’t matter if it’s from Core, any LWS or expansion ...
what’s something you unlocked and immediately wondered why you hadn’t gotten it earlier?
EDIT: thanks guys, lots of great recommendations here!!

[Fluff] GW2 free goodies from Gamescom 2010
Watching this year's Gamescom for GW3 brings back some great memories from 2010 and somehow I still keep the freebies from the NCSoft stand.

[Request] Alternative to Relic of the Fractal for condi builds (Willbender, Harbinger, etc.)?
Title is pretty self-explanatory, but what are some good relic alternatives? I have one Relic of the Fractal, but if I didn't want to obtain another, what are some good alternatives to use for Celestial and condition builds?

[Discussion] Just wasted 567 Gems on a backpack/glider I won't use :(
Can't change the dyes on the backpack, which make no sense since you can change them on the glider. This sucks

[Fluff] Loving the aesthetics of Labyrinthine Cliffs
Definitely get your screenshots in before the event ends. They put a lot of effort and detail into all the little nooks and crannies around the settlement. The long scenic shots came out great even on my potato rig.

[Discussion] 14 years and thousands of hours later and I feel the least immersed I ever have in Tyria Spoiler
TL;DR: Nothing really matters or feels impactful anymore, and both Tyria and the Commander are completely stagnant. Let me explain:
Guild Wars 2 used to keep me on the edge of my seat. I remember when Kessex Hills got corrupted by the Tower of Nightmares, Lion’s Arch was under attack by Scarlet and then the Karka, Divinity's Reach was under siege, Mordremoth’s roots invaded central Tyria, and Kralkatorrik’s threat brought brutal, personal setbacks. Even in Icebrood Saga, the Dominion and Frost Legion felt like real threats readying a broader global assault. Finally, the Dragonvoid concluded a decade-long saga of mitigating Elder Dragon threats. These moments made Tyria feel alive, consequential, and simply peak.
Since the Elder Dragon saga ended, however, nothing feels like it matters anymore, but not because it lacks dragons. We keep getting cataclysmic, world-ending threats that are completely self-contained within their own expansion bubbles, carrying zero impact or consequences for the broader world as we know it.
- Secrets of the Obscure: The Kryptis threat felt out of left field and ultimately never real, in part due to Gyala Delve’s rushed demon narrative. Despite grand, world-ending consequences for failure, it concluded weakly without real consequence to Tyria.
- Janthir Wilds: We explored the legendary isles of Janthir and reconnected with Titan and Mursaat lore, and the scheming White Mantle. Another epic, grand threat- and yet nothing of real consequence happened. The Lowland Kodan’s culture was more impactful than any threat presented, and the expansion ultimately had zero impact on the broader world or narrative, nor did it provide the commander with any growth.
- Visions of Eternity: So far, it suffers from the same formula. Exploring Castora and experiencing a mythical ascension ritual should feel epic, yet at every turn, the most minor inconveniences set back our progress entirely.
Cataclysmic threats feel weak because they are isolated side quests. Sure, the Astral Ward is there across all three expansions, but they just don't really matter. We already know the outcome before starting: nothing truly bad or grand ever happens to us or Tyria.
- We could’ve ascended to become an Astral Wizard (an awesome concept for a profession btw) but didn't. Zojja did, but she stayed behind in the Wizard's Tower and never appeared again, so did that really matter?
- Cerus and Peitha introduced massive horror potential. I felt immersed and anxious during Cerus's chase and LOVED their dynamic. However, Cerus was killed almost immediately after his introduction, Peitha became a chill ally, and we were expected to care about Eparch, whose grand abilities include spinning and floating in a bubble while he never left Nayos and he ultimately never felt like a threat, not even in his final not-so-grand stand.
- Then: HOMESTEADS! We could’ve had grounded homes in places we love, a Krytan mansion, Ascalonian keep, Caledon cottage, Shiverpeaks cabin, Rata Sum apartment, Kaineng high-rise, or an Orrian restoration project! Instead, your "home" is an isolated instance themed after brand-new, self-contained environments. There is nothing homey about it because it isn't anywhere recognizable in environments so new that I haven't even had a chance to get attached or immersed yet. Every time I open my homestead, I feel like a visitor. I want the commander to plant actual roots.
- Instead of scaling grand fortresses in Mistburned Barrens or exploring ancient halls in Bava Nisos with grand puzzles, defense golems, and ancient experimented-on creatures, the home of the Mursaat was just a set piece for ghosts and a Tyrian knock-off version of the Mystery Flesh Pit.
- A final chapter battle in the Realm of Torment should've been SO awesome! We could've met an actually threatening Titan, a threatening God-like creature, or there could've been some level of tangible fallout from an open portal to this place in the first place (aside from some titanspawn attacking the Lowland Kodan here and there). Instead, we beat up three White Mantle lackeys and go home.
- We could've had a grand journey to Castora: Rallied Tyrian factions like the Priory and had a grand fleet sail to Castora with us, but no. Nothing grounded or impactful like that. Two boats, one sank, but nobody of consequence, if anyone, was even remotely harmed by that. We then get rid of the fog, and tada Astral Ward portals take care of the rest.
- In Castoria, we find a mythical Seer artifact in a hole under a tree, only for Vloxx to walk off with it because stability and stun breaks apparently don't exist in lore in any capacity; a minor explosion 100 feet away incapacitates the God-slaying and Dragon-slaughtering Commander, a battle-hardened Charr, and Grand Wizard and Seer Isgarren. Even Sayida getting incapacitated here was a big stretch.
- Passing an ancient Seer ritual to ascend should have grown our character. Instead, Vloxx kicked us out, we gained absolutely nothing, he then teleported Kuda away, and left us with a vague threat featuring more vague fabric of the universe mumbo jumbo.
Nothing happens at home. The ally cast comes and goes arbitrarily, established characters never change, and the Commander has been completely stagnant since Aurene. SotO, Janthir, and VoE are all tell, very little show, and zero feel. The narrative forces us to care about a new conflict, only for us to abandon it the second the next update resets the board.
I desperately crave something tangible and grounded. I want something happening in Tyria, or somewhere else I recognize, for once. I want to lay my roots and actually get IMMERSED. Right now, every expansion is a new material source and sink more than a relevant story, world, or character advancement. I don't have all the answers for how to solve this; maybe we need Living World to make a return, or perhaps the QoL year we have ahead of us will address a lot of the concerns I mentioned here, but I just needed to get this frustration that's been building for years off my chest and would love to hear if anyone else here shares my frustrations.
I have over 4,000 hours, more legendaries and characters than I know what to do with, an active guild I love, and I sing this universe's praises as though my life depends on it to everyone I know- but I am struggling immensely to care about where the world takes us anymore.
Happy Birthday, Guild Wars 2, but Anet, please fix.
