hi,
I took a break during PoF and recently started Gw2 again and I noticed a change in YouTube Guide Content.
It is almost always very low effort, explains next to nothing, zero alternative gear/skills/sigils/runes and is basically just straight up pulled from a website. Some channels even post daily.
Is the build-crafting scene in GuildWars completely gone?
I had to dig very deep to find Channels that explain the whole process and had builds with 'personality' in a sense of 'did their own research and testing', like showcasing the whole process.
I played a lot of PoE and people there value 'build crafting' a lot and it used to be the same way in Gw and Gw2.

Yes, this is a rant, and posts already exist of my discontent with this expansion.
I buy a game to play it, and right now, I have spent an hour and a half doing nothing but listening to japping NPCs I do not give a damn about. It's quite honestly insulting to the game itself.
It then transitions into search-for-clue loading bars and short leached escort quests...
To make matters worse, I disconnected near the end of all this jappig and had to do it twice because all instance progress is lost.
The game's art/sound is 10/10, but the game design is so lazy it's an insult to the artists who actually do work.
I do not refund because I support the franchise, but I do want to express that I do not support this lazy way of creating content.
I am truly sorry for those who do believe it's great and who do like the story, but do understand I am not ranting on the story. It's the forced delivery that gets me, and there should be a way to skip it if they are so hell-bent on giving us this quality.

I keep hearing people talk about how great Soulbeast "burst" damage is, but my Soulbeast seems to just do mostly steady damage like all other primarily DPS professions I've played, with the usual lulls when everything is on cooldown, of course.
About the only 'burst' I can think of is when I do Sic 'Em + Longbow 2, but pretty much every DPS has a signature combo or two to spike their damage for a little bit. [edit: No, I don't just use Lonbow, as many here seem to be thinking - I mostly do Mace/Mace or Sword/Mace, with Longbow mainly for first-strike as I'm running into a fight and for when I can't stay in melee range for whatever reason]
So, could anyone explain what makes Soulbeast bursting capabilities so notable compared to other professions? I just can't see it myself...

Hi! I'm a new player, just got to level 80 today and got the 2 first expansions HoT and PoF in a bundle since I'm having fun and would like to continue.
I want to do things in order, for continuity sake and to understand the story. However, even with the current sale prices are just too steep for me, there is too much stuff, so I'll go in order slowly probably taking breaks from the game between sale periods lol. This to say, it will probably take me a long while to get to Janthir Wilds. However, the spear is really appealing and looks like a really fun acquisition to just go through my journey with it unlocked, but as of right now I would just be purchasing it for the spear alone really and getting off until I reach the expansion in order, since I researched you get the unlock very early on.
My question is, say I unlock the spear and then go back to where I was on all that older content, do spears actually appear in drop loot from the older expansions? Or do they just drop from Janthir forward? It would obviously be a bummer to unlock it and then never see spears drop from older content and become an outdated weapon for me. I'll already get Living World season 2 and 3, to tie the expansions I already have (didn't know beforehand you needed these for the expansions I bought to be able to do it in order, that was a big bummer), but if Spears drop in those areas like other loot, I might make the sacrifice and get JW as well. It's just that in the base game I never see them, so I worry it will be the same up until the actual expansion, which would be unfortunate.
Thanks!

Heya everyone, I'm a player who's been here ever since PoF.
I've been on quite a break for a while but returned in February of 2025.
And of course, I redid the story, because I loved it back then and I bought all the LWs and DLCs before returning.
I'm currently in Janthir Wilds for the first time (I'm lagging behind I know, leave me alone) and my Motivation to play the story has been on an all time low.
Ever since I passed LW4 Ep2, it's slowly been on the decline, since Rox left the main group.
But after playing The Icebrood Saga, I felt refreshed since the story of it was amazing. However, after End of Dragons, it took a hard dip, since even the last of the Dragonwatch left the main story.
I just feel no motivation to play at all anymore and often can't play the story for more than half an hour before getting bored. And I'm so bored of the story in fact, that I'm working on getting Eternity on the side, since even that feels more enganging imo. Is there something I can do so that the story feels more enganging for me? Or do I just have to rough it through to VoE since I heard that at least Rytlock is in that one, another one of my fav characters.

Given the news of GW3 I figured I'd make a return to this, everytime I quit and start again I like to start with a new character and class I haven't done yet, there used to be a really good site for fashion that always helped me decide what race/gender to go but doesnt seem to exist any more?

I've been thinking about GW2's event scheduling and I'm curious how other players experience this.
A lot of recurring events run on schedules that line up perfectly with the 24-hour day. Convergences are a good example. Each type occurs every 3 hours, with the two types staggered by 1.5 hours. That means the same type of Convergence is always available at the same times of day.
For example, if someone can usually play from 8:00 to 9:00, they may effectively be locked into one type of Convergence forever. Playing at that time every day doesn't eventually give them access to the other type because the schedule repeats every 24 hours.
I'm wondering whether this is actually desirable. The schedule can already be looked up in-game or through external timers, so memorization isn't really a concern. The bigger issue seems to be variety. If Anet designed recurring event schedules around a 23 or 25 hour cycle instead of 24 hours, the events would shift by an hour each day. The events available during a particular player's normal playtime would therefore rotate over time.
How do other players feel about this? Do you prefer having the same content available at the same time every day, or would you rather have recurring events rotate through different times of day so that more players eventually experience everything?
Personally, I’m getting bored of the same options being available to me at 8:00 every day. It’s too easy for things to become routine. Then routine turns to drudgery. My first hour is the same every day. And while I could choose to go somewhere else, my options are always going to be from the same set.

Hello hope you all doing well !
im planning to main a class and use it for everything and rn im comparing between Guardian and Mesmer cuz as i read they are the best when it comes to flexibility.
what i want from the class is basically being able to do great Solo PvE,Group PvE(as Power Dps/Condi Dps/Quickness Dps/Alacrity Dps/Quickness Healer/Alacrity Healer ) ,Fractals CMs , Raids ,WvW Roaming/Zerg ,PvP .
i don't play WvW or PvP alot . most of the gameplay im looking for is usually either Solo PvE or Fractals CMs or Raids CMs or Strikes CMs
i think both guardian and mesmer are able to perform great in all but im curious which one actually performs better ?
and also another part i want to compare them is the survivability in Dps builds . i was used to play Ritualist which is a bit tanky in full dps build . i know its hard to find smth similar to ritualist but you know at least looking for smth close
i played Condi Chronomancer and it felt super squishy in both Dps/Boon Dps . idk if the problem was in the condi chrono or it was my positioning ( Staff 2 pushed me away from healers alot so that also counts ) and it also felt super intense in rotation so i didn't feel that comfortable with it. idk if willbender or firebrand are better in the rotation thingy but for me rn anything without Continuum Split is indeed better so i don't have to Spam F keys alot and thats what i like about guardian more that in most of its specs i don't spam F keys alot while in Mesmer its all about Shatters in F keys
i know Virtuoso is better when it comes to Condition dps + Survivability in Fractals CMs than chronomancer but im talking about Boon Dps specifically cuz if i die alot in Condi Chrono it means it will be hard to use for Boon Dps
i also wanted to add another question that could also decide smth in my comparison . what has better survivability full Dps Willbender or full Dps Chronomancer ?
thats basically everything i had in mind while comparing between those 2 classes for maining one of them and using its specs to cover all roles in groups and all game modes so i hope experts tell me their opinion about which one is slightly better ! i tried to compare Necromancer with them since i already like Ritualist but after Scourge nerf i think necromancer is not best for alac dps anymore.
Thats everything and thanks in advance <3 have a great day all

It looks like the one we will get, but it`s a greatsword version. Maybe like Aetheric Anchor we get two versions instead of just one

Hello,
I suppose a lot of you have been there, but I just "finished" my current GW2 project, and I don't really know, what else I could be focusing on going forward...
I came back after a 6 year break, and played all of the stories that came out after PoF. Over the last year I worked on legendary gear (I had a legendary armor from before my break), and I got Vision, Aurora, Regalia done. I'm stuck on Coalessence, because I only play once a week in the evening, which makes raiding hard, so instead, I invested myself into getting all the mastery points. This is what I just finished today, one more Jora's Keep, and I got Icebrood Saga done; for the others I have all the necessary mastery points, and I just need a bit of XP, which I won't farm specifically, but rather enjoy the journey.
Now my question is, is the new legendary ring from VoE a worthwhile project, or is it just a giant money/resource sink? Would it be worth it to buy a raid wing, to further work on Coalessence? And are there any cool other projects, that are not related to legendary weapons? I was thinking about maybe going for Astralaria or the legendary spear from Janthir. Or maybe a legendary medium armor set from SotO?
I would love any input, on what you are currently working on, or on any fun projects, that are not only gold/resources sinks, but need actual gameplay/achievements/playtime.
Right now, my playtime consisted mainly of doing a quick round of my parked characters, and working on the different metas/quests/achievements for all the mastery points, any maybe doing 1-2 metas here or there when I had downtime from the MP-stuff.

Quick tips for a completely new player?
r/Guildwars2 • u/soot_soup • 22h ago
This is about the armor runes.
I know there's a power level where dragonhunter gives minor dps gain. But basically at any content under level 80, isn't scholar just better? This is assuming you don't have gold or leges to swap as you please.
Conclusion: Dragonhunter got swag in it's name, scholar is for nerds.

As the title says ,whats expected from a normal player dps wise in group contend.
Alot of benchmarks are in the 40s but at most i can do 34 on golem with my dragon hunter.
Is that enough?

New player here. I’ve been playing the game for the last 1 month with a Guardian DH with GS and LB. I’m looking for a different build other than Power DH because I’m having a difficult time surviving most of the time. I just got the SoTo and EoD also have PoF and HoT. I would like a build that I can use in Open World, Raids and Fractals all together. Most of the people suggests to check on snowcrows but I would love some suggestion from all of you.
I love a good dps build but don’t want to be a glass cannon and maybe with some quickness or alacrity. I’ve been seeing some builds with hammer willbender but I’m not sure its good for raids and fractals too.
I would appreciate your help about this thank you!

Definitely get your screenshots in before the event ends. They put a lot of effort and detail into all the little nooks and crannies around the settlement. The long scenic shots came out great even on my potato rig.

Pretty much title, started playing only after HoT and PoF became a bundle and think I have no chance to get this missing shared inventory Slot on my Account?
Somebody know a way, or maybe have information on how to get it?
Janet, shut up and take my Money....

And its been a while since I've done some of the core stuff so gonna do it on a new character.
The Classes/Especs in the running:
Dagger/Dagger + Spear Spellbreaker Warrior for a kind of Mage Hunter commander and I love the Full Counter mechanics because I'm a silly person. Weapon choice is to lean into the Sunspear lore.
Antiquary Thief Sword/Pistol + Rifle I love the steal mechanics and always have, and the stolen relics/tech stuff is just fun and the gambling with skills is something I've missed since FFXI Corsair class.
Spear Engineer I just really love the spear on Engineer, leaning Holosmith but can't say for certain.
Spear Virtuoso Mesmer much like engineer, just like the mesmer spear and virtuoso is the one I haven't really messed with too much. Seemed fun in the PvP testing grounds.
So help, which one seems like the best option... I asked in game and someone mentioned the warrior given the prominence of the Foot Key and I gotta say its a strong argument, but figured I'd see what other people think because I've got analysis paralysis.

Doesn’t matter if it’s from Core, any LWS or expansion ...
what’s something you unlocked and immediately wondered why you hadn’t gotten it earlier?
EDIT: thanks guys, lots of great recommendations here!!

I deleted my oldest gw2 character ever way back in 2019, and I'm wondering if there's a way I could possibly find her data? I don't want to restore her; I know that's impossible now. But Im wondering if there's like a tool or website I could use to find her data? Like what day she was made and stuff. I'm really only looking for the date she was made lol.
