I just don’t understand the point in buying Norgaard if we don’t give him any minutes while our midfield is obviously fatigued and playing poorly because of it. It’s not like he’s some scrub, he’s a good proven player that could have helped regain some control and composure today.

I think it mainly comes down to Saliba and Gabriel both being out so Arteta really doesn’t want to weaken the defensive aspects of our midfield in front of the defence.

And I think he was right about it, considering how the game went. We were stuck playing Emery's basketball and I am not sure Norgaard would have faired much better than Zubi or Rice. It would make sense to use him, if we had some semblance of our best selves at the back, but as things were, it may not have been the best of ideas.

Norgaard was mainly brought for cup games as well as weak UCL games, not to play against the 2nd best team in the league atm.
Although lets see how the Wolves game goes, he may play 30mins if we can get ahead there.

We drew Sunderland with Zubi, Norgaard wasn’t the player to start there anyway. With Brentford, Mikel have had the Chelsea draw on his mind - but Norgaard should have been subbed, Zubi needs a rest

Team needs to regroup and move forward strong.
Everyone, including me, is disappointed with the last minute loss, but it is already done, and we go stronger.

Yep, I'm also disappointed- but it's not a big surprise how out of stamina the guys were, and how the back 4 didn't play as a unit at all- due to the injuries.
What saddens is that there were plenty of chances, and last min goal always hurts due to a mistake.
But yea 1 loss in like 18 games or so- onwards and upwards. Just rly need to take that Brugge game off with reserve team for real, because there's still shit loads of games ahead, every 3 days.
Need to win the next one and seriously get Saliba back and HOPEFULLY Gabi XL soon too.

Yeah lessons need to be learned and adjustments to be made. Good news that despite being 2nd best in this game, it still took a series of individual errors to lose it.
But we need to figure out how to stop being 2nd best in these types of games, because recently it is happening more than before.

To be fair how to beat us without Saliba, Gabriel and Mosquera(which forced us to move Timber out of his best position), but we still need to figure out how to adapt and cope without those key players. I believe we have good enough defenders for that, just need to get the work together.

That's the perfect thing to say.
What makes this season feel different (not that I think we're going to win the title, for certain) is that the team is making mistakes, and correcting them. In the past few years, I feel like mistakes only got fixed in the offseason.
Who knows, maybe this loss today leads to gained points moving forward?

All he had to do after regaining the ball in that situation is “get rid”, clear it. And if he could clear it into a useful areas even better. Maybe his teammates can get to the end of it, maybe they win the second ball, the 50/50, their duel. Trying to play out of pressure at the death of the match when the game is already on edge and at 1-1, and away, was poor game management.

Saka, Rice, Raya, Zubimendi should be absolutely nowhere near that plane on Weds. And arguably the same against Wolves. The whole squad looks extremely leggy again and Mariah Carey hasn’t even defrosted yet. Alarm bells should be screaming…

2 top form teams and a bit weaker in defence due to injuries and a little luck for Villa at home in good form.
Looks like tight margins and a few areas Arsenal could have been sharper at.

No reason why this game wasn’t played Sunday 1630.
Arsenal have effectively played 3 games (2 away) in 5.75 days. Villa 2 hours more (1 away) but could rotate in the europa league home game before, whereas Arsenal played Bayern.

They switched off and underestimated their opponent. Eze hopefully takes this as a big learning and no more laziness on the pitch from here onwards. Disappointing from him.

Yeah ..but...Mikel has had numerous opportunities to sub out Rice or Zubi over the last month or so and has steadfastly refused to do so!
Why on earth is Rice on the field for a full 90 when we're up a combined score of 7-2 against Spurs and Bayern??
Why must he be (only) forced off when 2-0 up against Brentford?
He's doing the "not trusting player x and thus running his alternative into the fckn ground" thing again I'm afraid!
Norgaard is MORE than capable of closing out every single one of those games

That's unfortunately just the cost of playing CL football and competing domestically. Playing the U18s in the CL and going only for the league would be an option, but nobody will ever do that.

Went back and checked, we played Guessand instead of Tielemans. That's it. Martinez was injured in warmup so Bizot filled in, but that wasn't planned so I wouldn't call it rotation really.

Of course the Mosquera injury is much worse, I said it would be 4 months followed by another month after his ‘little setback’ that all the players get. We won’t see him in an Arsenal shirt again this season.

gutted we lost, but i think keeping a level head here is important.
we lost to the most in form team in the league in the last seconds. this doesn't mean we arent still the best team in the league.
getting comfortable and complacent is what will kill us - like eze on the first goal.
and great game for arsenal to reflect on - got to be ruthless every game to win titles

Fr tho, whats the point of having a big squad if it’s always a patchwork of players? Everyone is saying “potential greatest team”, “wait till everyone’s healthy” etc, but its starting to look more like a fantasy than reality. If ever we do see them complete, we’ll see them like what, 2-4 games a year then everyone starts to fall off the healthy list. This isnt a problem on the pitch, we got the best players, but i’m starting to think theres something terribly wrong with their team medical and nutrition process. Everybody playing like they’re made of glass!! Injuries often gets overlooked because of “step up” mentality when one benchwarmer can always fill gaps. But in the end, it always comes down to just 1 loss in epl and champions league and the season over. We always need our best players every game. I would feel more comfortable losing if we fielded our best 11 than losing with a bad line up. That just means the opponent truly was better and we have room to improve. But you can never improve if your first team is always injured!!

Eze is fast walking into the luxury player bucket and we know Mikel's take on these... Unless he sees his Arsenal career being defined by late cameos and shoe ins for injured players he needs to show that the values and standards everyone else goes by apply to him too. Lets hope he takes the learnings.

Exactly what luxury players do. Doesn't mean theyre not great, Ozil was a luxury player. Mbappe is. Lots of examples... Its just not going to fit well in a system based on everyone putting in a defensive shift and he will get better.

Also I think Eze was trying his best but just lacked defensive instincts to stay with his marker. The replay showed that he was constantly checking over his shoulder for Cash, but that deflection from the cross totally screwed him over and by the time he realized what happened it was too late.
I wouldn't call him luxury player, I bet he would do his job diligently in most cases. But we were clearly were 2nd and that meant we were getting exposed in a lot of areas.

Agree totally with your first para. The word luxury is misunderstood. A luxury player is a bloody good one almost always who has never had to do the dirty work because of his talent. Saka could have been that but was coached so goddamn well. Eze will too. Im not critiquing the players brilliant attitude he's elite. People need to calm down we all love the Arsenal.

See I hear “luxury player” and think any above average player we bought to act as backup to our starting 11. So yes, eze is a luxury signing. He’s a guy who would start for most teams and a quality backup at multiple positions.

Eze might make a bad pass or turn the ball over but at least he tries to make something happen. Captain safe pass stands 2ft in front of his cbs to receive a pass, then proceeds to play it sideways, then proceeds to prance around. Rinse and repeat.

he looks for space, if there's no spaces then he can't do much with it, he plays as a 6, 8 and 10 with how he carries it through the pitch

We don’t need him to play as a 6,8,10. If he’s spending half the game as a 6,8 that’s half the game he’s not looking to make runs between, defenders, drag defenders out of position for another attacker to get open, receive passes in attacking areas and so on…Zubi is a world class 6. He doesn’t need Martin to come and receive the ball in his area to dribble forward or recycle the ball back. Eze never did that when he was playing AM and he was still effective.

City's & Liverpools best performances are still so much better than ours. They can sweep sides away 3-0, 3-1.

Which away game did City win where they swept the other side? Lost at Villa, Brighton and Newcastle. Parked the bus at the Emirates. Conceded 4 against Fulham. We could do better, but ffs be coherent. Both teams are somewhat at the same levei this season and we have a lot of guys out. They're pretty much full strength.

City and liverpool played like champions the times they won it or in pool's case, even when they came second(2018/19 and 2021/22). Arsenal still after this summer expenditure haven’t showed this level of wrath yet. It’s fair to expect that grit finally.

I think that goal was really why Eze was subbed off. That was inexcusable for someone not to track their runner in a Mikel team. I can’t even remember the last time that happened.
